Young Girl was very prescient in that it was warning off a girl who was too young and telling her to get away as he couldn't guarantee he would behave. I knew all the lyrics at the time and thought about them a lot, although I didn't realise how serious a matter it was. And the singer was probably only in his early 20s anyway.

‘Clair’ isn’t sleazy either! It was about the three year old daughter of singer Gilbert O’Sullivan’s manager. He used to babysit her and she looked on him as an uncle.

It was from a different time when innocence still existed and people weren’t always looking for something to be offended about, or to read something unsavoury into things.

I don’t think To Sir with Love is sleazy.
It’s a young girl expressing gratitude & recognising how much her teacher has taught her & equipped her for life after she leaves school. The love is platonic.

Young Girl was one of my absolute favourite songs - I did not give the words a thought then, bit of course now I do. Great tune!

Re Young Girl - the girl in the song has deliberately pretended to be older. When the man realises this, he does the honourable thing and sends her away.

Song writers simply have to find words that scan with the tune/melody.

I still cringe when I hear Frank Sinatra singing "My Way", not just because of the self-justifying lyrics but because I always remember how he arranged to have divorce papers served on Mia Farrow on the film set of "Rosemary's Baby" because he had told her not to accept the part as it would involve him being left on his own.

Being so much older than he expected her to be a stay at home wife at his beck and call, but here was a major role that would help her in her acting career. She explained this to him this but he wasn't interested as he believed that he came before her career.

When she disagreed with him and defied him he arranged to humiliate and upset her at work. Of course the lyrics were written by someone else, not by him. I just think they are rather "unfortunate".

I think you can take these things far too seriously ,I well remember a school friend who used to miss her train so she could pick up the hair her current crush had dropped from his comb...lol.Not creepy just daft ,She followed him about like a shadow for nearly a whole term until she found a new crush to annoy
.Actually the guy with the comb didn't even notice ehr,I met him at a party about five years ago and told him about it and he had no idea.Might have been because there was more than her who had their eye on him .
All part of growing up .Much more innocent than today .
