Stopping Warfarin before an operation.

It’s some years ago, but my MIL was admitted to Hospital 3 days before her op as she lived alone, so they could be sure she didn’t take her Warfarin.

I’d just ask the question now.

Thanks for replies. I was just wondering if anyone else had to do it and what they did, as opposed to what I should do if that makes sense. Anyway thanks for opinions much appreciated.

Will you have a pre-op assessment? That's a question for them. They must get asked that lots of times.

Well, Warfarin is a blood thinner, so it makes sense.

Only an expert could tell you! I have heard of both methods but as others have said ask your clinician.

Your clinician is the person to ask. None us are qualified to answer that question for a number of reasons.
It would be foolish and dangerous to offer that kind of advice on a public forum.

Good luck with your op.

Ask your doctor again because I doubt if you have heparin to inject.

Has anyone been on warfarin and stopped it prior to op? I’ve been told by two doctors to a) stop it five days before. Or b) stop it and use heparin injections to cover gap. Now I’m confused. What did you do please. Many thanks.
