I’m loving Petunias thread on frugality.
I’d love to hear what you will not scrimp on!
Mine is butter, it has to be a famous French brand.
Also I just adore cashmere, I buy 1 quality cashmere jumper a year.

I am a pauper, so I thought that this thread would depress me. In fact, it has cheered me up as I realised that I wasn't really fussed about most of the things that people have mentioned.

I suppose that, if I had an unlimited amount of money, I would just buy books, books and more books. That would be a Bad Thing, as I have got too many already. Without sounding like a goody-goody, I would like to be able to give more money to charity. I do my bit but I would like to be able to give to more appeals without thinking about it. Not sure if that counts as a luxury but it's not part of everyday household expenditure.

Heating, definately. Just about everything else I can cut corners on althugh I am limited in some respects, as I suffer from severe allergies. Cheap skin stuff (& Marks and Spencer products!) can cause me misery for months.

Life has not been easy. I have been widowed twice and brought my (4) children up alone, whilst working full time. A lot of what you are calling necessities are things that are way out of my league, and always will be.

Wearing perfume every single day no matter what I'm doing.
Marran eggs
Garden plants

My luxury item is my new iPad. I really could have managed with my old one, but I thought, why not? And, I love it!! The speed in which it loads pages is unbelievable !!

I like the vegan Cook meals, Gingergirl, but I don't see them as luxuries. Having a hot meal delivered always seems a bit extravagant, but it's still cheaper than a restaurant, so I've saved a lot this year.

I'm surprised so many of you don't care about the goats freezing to death!

According to DH...leaving lights on all over the house.?

QuaintIrene Thu 17-Dec-20 13:56:36

Loccitane shower gel and body lotion. It’s so lovely and I do like to smell nice even though there is no one to sniff me.
Doc Marten boots. Worn them for 50 years and although I have some going out shoes that DH used to buy me, I can’t really feel comfortable in them.
Nice hot chocolate. I buy from Whittards outlet once a year and it’s a treat.
A new hardback novel is bought every year as a treat. I enjoy choosing, reading reviews and trying to make my mind up. Makes a change from the charity shop.
Big cat has treats everyday. She is my main indulgence really.

A luxury being something you want but don’t need, I’d say fresh flowers, and houseplants, the odd meal from ‘Cook’, fresh coffee and croissants.....and breakfast in bed!

polly123 Thu 17-Dec-20 13:50:22

L'occitane shea butter hand cream, Chanel perfume and cashmere scarves.

I’m thinking of buying myself some electrically heated socks this year. I find that when it’s cold in the garden I can keep everything else warm but my feet get bitterly cold. They’re expensive, so I’m still considering…

This is yet another reminder to me of how fortunate I am. I no longer have luxuries in that, if I want something, I buy it. Happily, I do not have Rolls Royce tastes so we're talking pretty much run-of-the-mill here. Thankfully I no longer think wistfully of purchases I would love to have made. Mind you, without those days of financial stretch, I might not appreciate how fortunate I am now. Great stuff!

Jo Malone perfume, L'Occitane face cream (expensive but lasts a long time) and cashmere knitwear - pure luxury.

Nanamar Thu 17-Dec-20 13:21:00

Shoes! Shoes made in Italy not China. And clothing and items made in the USA and the UK. Just bought a wax jacket made in the UK.

I'm the same as you charliegirl. I like to be warm and when I go shopping if I want something I will get it(I don't mean something that's hundreds of pounds) just normal things in the supermarket. I also like going to TK Maxx as I like their soaps. I also have a kindle so if I see a book I like I know I can afford it on the other hand I don't go mad as I like to know I have money left for a rainy day

I'm evidently not as well off as some Grans, but I'll keep my car for as long as I can. I love driving and would be cut off here in the Devon countryside without it
And I do like Kipling handbags.

Alioop Thu 17-Dec-20 13:03:30

My mum never could understand why I paid £70 for a bottle of perfume lol. That's my treat and sometimes when I give myself a squirt of it I think of her.

Kartush Thu 17-Dec-20 13:01:14

My only luxury is aircon in the summer

Froglady Thu 17-Dec-20 12:38:08

Mine is buying books for my Kindle .

Bazza Thu 17-Dec-20 12:34:17

I’m with you geekesse, bedding is something I never scrimp on. I’d be embarrassed to say what I spent on my duvet and high thread count bedding, but to me worth every penny. And good butter.

Lupin Thu 17-Dec-20 12:31:51

True Grace Moroccan Rose room diffuser and room spray.
Premium brand coffee for my cafetiere. Love Taste the Difference Ethiopian Sidamo, and M&S coffees.
Lurpac for my ancient grain Pave bread.

cupcake1 Thu 17-Dec-20 12:28:47

Molton Brown shower gel, hand wash and lotion, candles and reed diffusers. Clarins face serums and creams, fresh flowers each week and trips to the (expensive) hairdresser every 6 weeks!

Phloembundle Thu 17-Dec-20 11:59:48

Plants and garden tools. Just can't stop myself. Need therapy.

Shalene777 Thu 17-Dec-20 11:54:15

Charbonnel et Walker pink champagne truffles are my Christmas indulgence
I never scrimp on food either.

Rosina Thu 17-Dec-20 11:52:41

Oh - and beautiful scent, which I find relaxing to have around me!
