Words fail me. What do you think about her half shaved head?

Sparklefizz Fri 18-Dec-20 10:34:11

Sorry MawBe, I didn't mean to cast aspersions. I have noticed her pop up a lot because (I am guessing) she has always had her own style and looks like a model, whereas other minor royalty don't. I have been interested in her clothes as she is always so elegant. Also a name like Charlene is easy to remember.

Yes, I too remember the rumours that she tried to leave the country before the wedding when it was disclosed that her husband-to-be had fathered yet another child while in a relationship with her. She tried to run. She looked incredibly sad in photos for years after that but probably feels she must stay now because of the children.

I think a series on the Crown of Monaco would be a good idea!!

Ellianne Fri 18-Dec-20 10:08:12

the odd illegitimate child attached to him.
Yes, I think that was part of the problem Calendargirl. He had to produce a legitimate heir under the complicated Grimaldi rules dating back to who knows when.
MawBe I would probably score top marks on this if it were my specialist subject on Mastermind, (only because I've visited Monaco a lot)! You might have to help me out on general knowledge though!

Not sure if it’s ok to use the I word, but can’t think of another one

I always rather liked the “B” word - no, not that one, “by blow”.

Calendargirl Fri 18-Dec-20 09:27:55

Yes Ellianne, I think at the time of her marriage there were rumours about her having second thoughts, but a bit like Diana, her face was probably on the equivalent Monaco tea towels.

I think Prince Albert is quite a bit older, and the odd illegitimate child attached to him.

Not sure if it’s ok to use the I word, but can’t think of another one.

I think she's a beauty. She's always very stylish. I don't know how people can say they've never heard of her. If you keep up with the news, you will have come across her. You don't have to follow Royalty to know of her.

I feel chastened.
I read at least 2 broadsheet newspapers daily, watch Channel 4 news, Newsnight and even (sometimes) listen to Any Questions so I regard myself as reasonably well informed, but I had not heard of her.
But I take little or no interest in minor European royalty. Yes of course I have heard of the late Princess Grace and also of Prince Rainier but who their children have married - nope, I would score zero on Mastermind if that were a specialist subject.
So Sparklefizz I am sorry to disappoint, but you may have to accept that there are people who had no idea who this thread was about.

Ellianne Fri 18-Dec-20 07:35:06

Calendargirl my thoughts exactly! grin

Didn't Charlene have a few wobblies before her marriage? I think there were rumours that she tried to escape back to South Africa a couple of times? She seems to have hung in there ok, so I guess a rebellious hairstyle is a small thing in comparison.

As an aside, the tour round the palace in Monaco is interesting/fascinating. The rooms are quite small and compact. The most moving thing is Princess' Grace's tomb with its white flowers in the church.

Calendargirl Fri 18-Dec-20 06:45:12

Don’t like it personally, but up to her I suppose.

Now if it were the Duchess of Cambridge, or Sussex, well........

???????

A NAAFI barber would have done a better job.

The left side looks OK and my hair grows quickly so I've been gently snipping away at it while the right side catches up. I'm nearly there apart from wondering what to do with the missing bit above my ear.

The back was cut so short I can cheerfully ignore it.....for now.

Callistemon Thu 17-Dec-20 23:23:36

I wish mine had fully recovered. My left side is still longer than the right and there's still a chunk missing over my right ear.

What really makes me cross is that people think I tried to cut it myself with disastrous result. I actually paid for somebody to butcher my locks. angry

I have been sorely tempted to do a Princess Charlene ever since.

A NAAFI barber?
(Apologies to any NAAFI barbers on here)

Mine was practically shaved at the back, the new young hairdresser must have thought I needed modernising. She must be scissor happy.
10 months later it has still not grown down to one length.

merlotgran Thu 17-Dec-20 22:55:03

What a ridiculous thread.

First of all the OP doesn't know her Grimaldis from a Bourbon biscuit, then another poster reckons the poor woman has inherited some dodgy gene from Princess Grace who isn't even her mother. hmm

Does anyone really think the imperious Grace would call her daughter Charlene? grin grin

Grandma70s

I think it’s hideous, but it’s up to her, I suppose.

Charlene is the most unroyal name I could possibly imagine.

Me-ow.

paddyanne Thu 17-Dec-20 22:43:24

She was a stunning bride ,google her .

I think most of us have got photos like that !

Callistemon Thu 17-Dec-20 22:30:56

Copycat fashion.

She may look back in a few years' time and shudder when she sees photos of herself with a half-shaved head.

HeyHo Thu 17-Dec-20 22:23:38

Nollick Ghennal to you Ellen Vannnin!

Nezumi65 Thu 17-Dec-20 09:28:00

Blimey is that all? It seems quite a popular cut around here. I have a friend with something similar, probably not cut quite so high.

petra Thu 17-Dec-20 09:17:01

I'm still puzzled why the op put the heading Princess Stephanie.

honeyrose Thu 17-Dec-20 09:06:52

I don’t like it. It’s a bit of a rebellion haircut.

BlueSky Thu 17-Dec-20 09:00:11

She might try to show how restricted her life at court has become and it’s the only way she can show rebellion. Or she might just like the style!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 17-Dec-20 08:08:33

That fashion has been around for eons. Well it has in Brighton. Nothing particularly special about it.

But whatever floats your boat.

It brings variety and colour into the world.

Especially if you follow the Grand Prix at Monaco too! grin
Sadly not this year.

AmberSpyglass Wed 16-Dec-20 23:35:45

It’s what’s called a side-shave - looks like it’s probably quite easy to cover up, so best of both worlds!

Ellianne Wed 16-Dec-20 23:34:47

To be fair, the twins always look immaculately turned out, true to Monégasque tradition.
