My son and family are in Sydney too. Not seen since 2018 when I flew out to surprise him on 40th birthday. Miss him so much but count myself lucky that he is happy and that I have another wonderful son over here with whom I

Same boat too. Commiserations to sll wit families far away. DD1 & family and I should be in NSW with DD2 Now SiL & eldest GS being tested for Covid as they’ve been in areas where there are increasing cases (Northern Beaches). I feel very despondent about the future but so grateful I am in a bubble with DD1 so won’t be alone. I have a pile of presents for DD3 & family in Devon, but stuff is not important and can wait. The health and safety of the Nation is. If only everyone saw it that way, but sadly that’s human nature.

Same boat as yours Calendar but never mind, nothing we can do. Christmas usually makes me miss them more than ever but usually under normal circumstances, I know that comes the spring I’d be there...tchsad

How lovely!
At least everyone is in their home and staying safe, so that has to be a comfort for you.
Hopefully 2021 will bring us some good news and we can see our families again.
Meanwhile , enjoy!

We received a lovely M&S hamper yesterday from DD and family. She is married to an Australian, has lived there over 20 years, has 3 teenage children.

As we unpacked the delicious contents, wine, cheese, pate, biscuits, smoked salmon, Christmas cake and pudding, I shed a tear as I realised how much I love and miss them. Haven’t spent Christmas with them since elder GS was a new baby (he was 18 in October!)

With the virus, no idea when we will get over there again, it’s 3 years since we have seen them.

This isn’t intended as a ‘Poor Me’ thread. I am well aware that there are many other GN’ers in the same boat. But with yesterday’s latest announcements, I can well understand how disappointed so many people must be at the thought of not seeing families.

It will get better though, and as long as we all are ok, that’s what really matters.
