I thought I hated them. One year the School PTA asked us to provide mince pies and sherry for refreshments after the School’s carol concert in a nearby Church. Don’t know if it was the sherry, but I decided I really liked them, but prefer warmed.
I used to make them back in the day when the girls were home and we still had my mum (who loved them). The butter pastry recipe I used contained ground almonds and lemon zest. They were seriously yummy!
Glad it's not just our house - four days ago I made three dozen and also another double batch of pastry so that I can easily knock up another batch. Thought I'd do a quick check on how many were left to assess when to do the next lot and lo and behold there's only three left in the tin Looks like I'm baking again sooner than I thought
My first lot have disappeared, I only made 2 dozen for the two of us. Tomorrow I shall make another load. Tonight I shall have to make a yule log! WOODMOUSE49 if you get your hands on a Bero cookbook, you can't fail making your own pastry!
Late yesterday afternoon I made 2 dozen mince pies. By the time we had dinner at 7.30 the resident ? had scoffed 7 of them! Even for him, that was impressive!
I'm very envious [envy}. Not at having nearly half your mince pies disappear but that you have made them yourself. My pastry is terrible even the ready made stuff. Don't know what I do it.
