Someone asked is this 'what we are reduced too' referring to another person's post. I guess we are running out of things to discuss as none of us are going anywhere, all our social activities are no longer available so can't discuss the pros and cons of those, and we are relying on the news, family issues and the more mundane areas of life to put up posts. What do you think?? this is not a critisim just an observation. smile

Hate negroni, sorry, we went on holiday to Spain in 1972 with friends and the first night our male friend (very forceful) said we must all have a Campari, he ended up drinking all four and although I don’t like sweet drinks could never take to that.

I've never seen blue jelly. Might have to experiment with gelatine and blue food colouring?

Marmight Tue 22-Dec-20 22:33:58

I’ve recently discovered Negroni. You should try it. Oblivion guaranteed after the 3rd. Very welcome in these Covid times ?hic.
I spit out cherries unless they’ve come straight from a tree. I don’t think I’ve eaten trifle this century. Must give it a go - sans sprinkles
Elliane’s idea for fish in a sea of blue jelly is a great idea. Can you get blue jelly?

I hate it when threads or comments get deleted and I never know what they were about in the first place!

SueDonim Tue 22-Dec-20 22:17:35

Sprinkles on trifle are mandatory. It’s a very obscure law that they must be there.

My DD’s don’t like trifle but they like all the components separately. confused

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 20:48:30

Ooh glacé cherries, haven’t had them for yonks.

Callistemon Tue 22-Dec-20 20:18:06

I used to put flaked almonds and glacé cherries on the trifle

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 20:16:51

Farview if we’re moving on to dunking, it’s ginger biscuits in tea for me

farview Tue 22-Dec-20 20:12:00

For some reason we have two jellies in our trifle. One is mixed with carnation milk and whipped into a mousse. Anyone else ever heard of this?

I've never had it like that, but my mum mentioned that very thing only two days ago.

Apparently, that's how my grandma used to make her trifle.
In fact, she also used the post war welfare orange juice to flavour one of the two jellies - my mum says it was lovely!

Crushed up flake.

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 18:44:42

Who puts sprinkles on top of the trifle?

Ellianne Tue 22-Dec-20 18:43:15

Do NOT trifle with a GNetter!

LauraNorder Tue 22-Dec-20 18:37:06

I’m a trifle confused here!

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 18:03:13

Whoops. So important I said it twice!

Well, I’ve yet to see any talk about one of the most important topics of Christmas.

Should the trifle contain jelly or not? grin

Interesting thread smile

Having hated jelly in a trifle, years ago, one Christmas, I made a trifle with pears at the bottom, big layer of sliced double chocolate muffins soaked in a massive glug of rum, custard (sometimes chocolate custard) and cream. It became a favourite. grin Small one this Christmas for the two of us.

No one ever moaned about the lack of jelly. Children had a non-alcoholic version.

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 18:02:02

Oh, trifle has to have jelly, and definitely red for Christmas.

Ellianne Tue 22-Dec-20 18:02:02

You've just given me an idea for next summer's trifle Laura. A blue jelly with goldfish (peach slices) swimming in it.
