Reading throught the threads this morning made me wonder if I should start a chatty thread, one that hopefully everyone could join in if they wished to do so.

As the Good Morningers know, after a lot of hassle with a blocked credit card, ( not me fault!), I bought a Santa lantern from Dobbies in their sale to replace one that I had, which had died.
When Santa arrived, he was leaning drunkenly against the glass, having had too much sherry on his rounds. There was no way I could fix it, as the unit was sealed.
I phoned Dobbies' customer service and got a very helpful young man, who mistakenly thought my name was Lady Marydoll I could visualise him bowing! I was going to wait to tell you all later that I have been given a seat in the House of Lords in the New Year's Honours list tchwink

We had a good laugh, when I tried to spell my email address using the phonetic alphabet, because I was hoarse and he was having difficulty with my Glasgow accent.

Anyway, I got a full refund without any hassle and the added bonus, I get to keep Santa!! tchgrin

That simple exchange has really cheered me up. It may have started out with a simple request for a refund I didn't need to even ask in the end, but it became a social interaction with someone other than my DH.
I love him dearly, but oh I do need some other company! I'm now waiting to waylay the postman for a chat!

This morning I have finished sewing up my knitted sweater that has been around three years in the making. Pleased with it, but it does feel a little bit scratchy (I've sensitive skin) so will have to wear it with a long sleeved t-shirt under. I might have a go at learning to crochet this afternoon in front of the box as the DGDs have been given kits for Harry Potter as a Hanukka gifts and they expect crafty Nana to produce them.

Just popped out to do a clear up in the garden after the dog had been out, the weather was pretty good, and on impulse planted half a dozen small pots of ground cover on the bank. The pots have been sitting outside on the table for about a fortnight since they were delivered. I always found an excuse to not plant them, but I just sprung it on myself this morning before I had time to come up with an excuse!

A little group of us meet - at a safe distance - in out local park.
We are mainly dog walkers out exercising us as well as the dogs. Today it was one of our newest member's birthday and we all gave her birthday cards and sang "Happy Birthday" She was so pleased at our - feeble - efforts to celebrate her birthday (a very big one I gather - she didn't say!) that it cheered me up no end so a happy day for me too! tchgrin

I had a zoom call from my friend of 66 years. ?

Jane10 Tue 22-Dec-20 13:55:28

We just had our weekly Gransnet zoom meeting with a difference. It was a Christmas lunch. We all wore Christmas hats, had festive food (and drinks). There was a quiz. (I came last!) We had jokes and recitations - very special one from Elegran and a general good time was had by all. The nearest to a party we'll have this year.
I'd encourage other Grans to set up zoom groups. Best not be too large in size though.

What is delighting AND puzzling me at the moment is my hedgehog is still coming to feed every night, I thought he/she should be hibernating by now, quite out of kilter I feel but possibly to do with global warming. ?????

This morning we had to go out for our last grocery shop before Christmas. Outside the shop is a sit down area with a singing snowman and his friends. You press a button to make him sing.

A little girl refused point blank to go near the snowman until a second little girl arrived and started to sing and dance along. Then the first little girl joined her and together they entertained us. When it was time to leave the second little girl got 10 yards away then ran back to say 'Goodbye Snowman'.

Between their antics and a little boy who sat down with a bump and stared in wonderment, mouth wide open and Cheesy Wotsits in hand, I laughed till I cried (behind my mask!). They made my Christmas.

Met up with my walking friend strolled along the beach with the sun shining and a mild morning ,s weather. Then walked up to the coffee shop to have a Xmas Panini with another friend. Comfy warm company before Boxing Day lockdown.

Can I backtrack to yesterday?

My granddaughter's birthday. Difficult to think of a present for a 16 year old goth. I found a choker and card (thanks to Google and Etsy. I've impressed her grin. The card is going on the wall in her bedroom. grin grin Had a lovely text too and call from her. Great to hear her so happy. She's had a tough two years at school + mum and dad finally separated.

I should have seen them both (DD and granddaughter) this Christmas as usual but it's been postponed until safe to travel and stay with us.

Received a present I had ordered for my step DGD , didn't think it would arrive in time for Christmas . My son is coming to swap presents tomorrow so perfect timing.

GN zoom groups.
Great idea Jane10. I'll put a feeler out.

A ring of the doorbell this morning and there stood my son-in-law bringing a lovely bunch of flowers.
A trip to my son’s house to deliver presents and chat on the drive. I came away with a huge basket arrangement of Christmas plants.
Feeling blessed.

Yes my day has been successful/pleasant in various simple ways. First mail I read today was a short film of a little ones nativity play. Seems that one of the wise men thought she would like to like to give baby Jesus a cuddle and, when she removed him from the manger, 'Mary' wasn't too impressed and tried to intervene. Result was hilarious! I'm still smiling. Much lesser but nonetheless satisfying was a quick trip to my High Street where my shopping was speedy and successful. Not expected. Lastly, just had a delicious lunch which took me all of three minutes in the kitchen. Cannot leave without congratulating Anno on the weight loss success. Doesn't matter how far you have to go. Every little loss is good. Bravo you!

We have a 10 mile drive for our Tesco click and collect, mostly on narrow country lanes. I love being so close to the land. Today I saw roe deer and rabbits, partridges and pheasants ( lots of pheasants!). Finally, a hare ran across in front of me, giving me a good view. Also, one of the farmers has planted oak saplings in a row on both sides of the lane, which gave me such a feeling of hope for the future.
Such a feel good factor, after the dentist at 8.30am! ?

I had a delivery of letterbox flowers today from my daughter and her family. They are lovely. I also had a bracing walk round the golf course in crisp frosty air. It lifted my spirits as I had been feeling a bit glum when I woke up this morning.

This morning we met DD, SIL and our two grandsons to do the Elf Trail at our local country park. It was good fun. Afterwards we collected our Christmas meat order from a butchers within a small shopping village. We had a takeaway lunch from the cafe there. Then when we got home DD arrived with a box of four huge doughnuts - the extra special ones decorated with icing, chocolates, marshmallows and biscuits etc. We've just had one with a coffee. Rest of the day on the sofa. Bliss!

Sallywally1
Have experienced the same feeling.
When I did a test drive on a Nissan, which I then decided to purhase, being seven years ago, I had commented to the enthusiastic sales person I did not want to fly, just drive it. I know I do not put to use all this gem of a car has to offer in making my journeys a pleasure and not just getting from A to B.

EllanVannin Tue 22-Dec-20 15:53:28

Oh yes, all but two of my awaited deliveries arrived at lunchtime making two more to go, though ironically the one I'm waiting for had stated " same day delivery " grin. It's been a week ! Two days left yet is the way I'm looking at it although it is a main present, but what can you do ? Not a lot.

Is this a Scottish Grans’ Zoom meeting (like for instance the Burns supper and Edinburgh lunches?) or a private group of friends, Jane10?

Very relieved when DD2 rang to say she was home from hospital after having a fairly large mole removed from her cheek. She was still very numb but glad it was all over. She sent a picture showing a large dressing which can come off tomorrow. Three year old granddaughter asked if she could see mummy's 'ouchie'.
I'm sure we will all feel even better when she gets the results of the biopsy.
We all worry about our children even when they are in their 40's.
How lovely to read of happy things today.

I had a lovely call from my DS - he rings every day at the moment. Then I had a delivery from Sainsbury which had things on it I thought I had cancelled but the lovely driver took the stuff back I didn't want and refunded me.

This afternoon my DSiL rang me and then my parcels for DD were picked up. Hopefully they will arrive without mishap tomorrow.

Pleased your daughter is home safely Sar.

Lovely to read all these and a bit of positivity. I've just had a visit from my son and his gf so I'm happy.

Jane10 Tue 22-Dec-20 16:47:59

MawBe and WOODMOUSE49 our Zoom group is a bit of a mixture really. There are some veterans of Burns lunches and StAndrews fish and chip lunches. Katek took the initiative and it grew from there. There are only potentially 8 of us but not everyone joins every week. Even with that number it can be too much as only one person can talk at a time so managing turn taking etc can be problematical at times.
However, I'm very glad of it and feel that we've talked through some big issues along with lots of chat and laughs. How about you setting a group up yourselves?

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 16:58:04

We were due to have our Christmas bubble, DD1, DSIL and children, for lunch tomorrow but aren’t allowed now, so met up instead for a bracing walk today. I made the beef bourgignon and lemon mousse a day early and we’ll all be eating it in our own homes tonight. And we had Christmas cake and cheese when we got in. I’m content.

sodapop Tue 22-Dec-20 17:19:44

Had two friends round for lunch today, the meal went perfectly, salmon and prawns followed by raspberry creme brulee, copious amounts of wine. It was lovely to socialise again. Hopefully we won't go back into lock down after Christmas.
