Good Morning Saturday (Boxing Day)

Good morning Michael and all GNs. Just getting light in South Yorkshire. We had a lovely afternoon here with DD and her menfolk yesterday. Lunch went off very well and we sat in the conservatory with the windows open, wearing masks, and had a hilarious quiz, with the quizmaster (GS) displaying a heavy scoring bias in favour of his grandparents?. Then face time in the evening with the other half of the family. On my feet too long yesterday though; we were supposed to be out walking today but my hip has been telling me all night that it’s not a good idea, so we’ve postponed it for a day or so. Have a good, safe Boxing Day, one and all.

Good morning from a cold but brightening Colchester, where we are waking up in tier 4. Makes no difference as everything is closed today anyway.
Christmas on Zoom is very lacking and I feel a bit short changed.
Loads of leftovers to eat and a long walk to burn them off today.

Good morning from a very cold N Hants. Lovely family day yesterday, delicious meal and a walk admiring all the beautiful Christmas lights. People really have gone to town this year.

Icing on my cake, tricky 12 year old granddaughter loving my present to her and announcing ‘Nana, you know me so well’. Perfect.

Back again later for brunch and another walk before the gales start, then cold meat, chips and salad, almost better than Christmas dinner.

Today we’re in Tier 4, so hunker down now until Spring,

It’s cold and grey here in South Bucks.

Well our mini party went extremely well yesterday. DH had got out the summer parasol and festooned it with Christmas lights and tree decorations. We had the garden chairs sinking into the wet grass. We added to the fizz, stolen cake, shortbread, cheese biscuits and chocs. Our lone neighbour came round at the allotted time and then I decided in my usual haphazard way to knock on the door of our new neighbours who only moved in on Monday, to ask if they would like to join us, socially distanced of course. So we had a lovely noisy Christmas Party before we all returned to our snug warm homes. We had 4 Facetimes during the day from the DGSs who insisted on opening their presents to us as they didn’t want us left out if the raucous celebrations at their house. What a day!

So pleased Sparklefizz you could have a family day too. grandMattie how lovely that Iris is doing so well. Enjoy your drive today Kitty. Looking fwd to hearing from Marydoll Hope your freezer door is now shut.

Good morning to you all from a rather dull Torbay (weather’s not great either!!)

Drinking almost a whole bottle of fizz to myself in the course of Christmas Day, besides eating more than usual, led to a longer night than I’d normally expect. No pressure to do much today, least of all cook!

I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s account of their Christmas Day, especially as we have all made the best of the circumstances. Technology helped enormously and I enjoyed Zoom or video calls with all three of my offspring, not forgetting DH in rural France.

Many of you liked the blessing included in my post yesterday so thank you for the kind comments. Church was well attended and a joyous occasion. Although singing is not permitted, I played many carols on the piano including a lively rendition of the Calypso Carol to finish, earning a round of applause which was most unexpected but appreciated.

I hope everyone is warm and stays well and has a day free from worries as far as possible and that MrSusan56 is recovering from his fall, poor chap!

Good Morning from a damp and breezy N. Bucks. The local flood waters have receded a bit. Yesterday it took DH an hour and a half to collect MIL rather than the usual 40mins as he had to avoid some roads.
Quiet yesterday in the main apart from face time with family.
Cold Turkey and pickles here today too and probably far too many sweet things.
DD1 has arranged a family zoom which involves an Escape Room game. Sounds interesting.
Hope to get outside , even if just for a trot around the block.

Morning everyone from a chilly south Cornwall. A lovely Christmas Day with my youngest son (the Queen's speech moved us both; she seemed vulnerable) and then the eldest dropped in unplanned with his partner and their 3 and 5 year olds. We had such fun. Today I'm hoping to receive a cordless drill with hammer action which I requested from a secret Santa, so I can put some shelves up. I love a bit of DIY! Happy Boxing Day to you all, hope it's an ok one for you.

We had a nice day yesterday,hectic but good although started with DH tripping over in the garage.The whole of his left side from his face to his knee is a battered and bruised.

Today we will take my mum home,she has been staying in a local hotel with our youngest daughter.She would normally stay longer but as her area is moving into Tier 3 we have to take her home today.

Tomorrow we will relax?

Hope Cherry and Mary have both had a restful night and that Mr Doodle continues to improve.

We faced time sons and family yesterday, there were tears of course but we are hopeful of all being together soon. DD and GC are here and there is a mountain of toys to play with today. The littlest is one on 3/01 so pleased DD has requested no toys as gifts.

Good morning, it’s still dark here in Leicestershire.

We had a lovely day yesterday. We Zoomed DD and SiL in the morning to open presents then again in the evening and we ate dinner together. Zoom works really well with just 4 of you.
We are Face timing the DGC this morning as they open our presents. Our son kept them back as they had so much on Christmas Day.

Good morning mick and all from Inverness where it’s still dark and cold. I think we’ve got rain in the forecast for today but I still want to go out for a walk after sitting around and eating far too much yesterday!
We spent yesterday at DD2 house and enjoyed it so much as it was the first time we’d been inside their house for ages. As the rules allowed meeting on Christmas Day only, we made the most of it and stayed until 11.45pm , just getting home one minute to midnight ?.. phew!
Hoping everyone finds something to enjoy today and take take care whatever the day brings ?

We had a lovely chat with all children around lunch time yesterday with cameo appearances from various excited grandchildren and pets.

We think we might go for a drive to the Vale of Belvoir this morning before DH watches his team (probable lose again!) on TV and I watch something that isnt football.

Good morning from a dark and cold north Surrey, heating just starting to kick in.
We too enjoyed our day just the five in our bubble with DD and DGSs, traditional dinner and fun and games with the boys who are very happy with their presents.
DS and family will be joining us on the drive today to open presents and have a glass of mulled wine. We are going to erect some sort of barrier to keep dog in and DGD socially distant which at aged 2 she doesn’t understand. Wheelie bins and dog crate should do the trick!
I have just watched the Queen’s Christmas speech, she always manages to find uplifting words IMO
Have a good Boxing Day, I suspect many will be eating as us, cold turkey and bubble and squeak

Good morning from Essex by the sea, it's still too dark to see what the weather is doing.
A relaxed day yesterday, DH dropped presents off to his grandchildren, I Facetimed with my girls and granddaughters, saw all their presents.
We had a late Christmas dinner , strange just the two of us, but we sat and talked and drank a nice bottle of Chablis. Later it was cheese and biscuits with a glass of Port.
I have to admit to tears whilst DH was out in the morning but I was fine by the time he came back.
Hopefully we will get out for a walk today as I believe the weather tomorrow is going to be dire.
No cooking today just cold meat and pickles.

Glad to hear that you managed to have a happy time on Christmas Day despite all the challenges.

My daughter and 2 grandchildren plus my son came for a socially-distanced garden visit, all wrapped up. No one came into my house. Sitting outside in thick coats and blankets, drinking hot drinks, we still got cold but we opened our presents, played a couple of games and went for a short walk. They were only here for 2 hours but their visit gave me such a boost. I had not seen my grandchildren since Xmas Day last year as lockdown prevented their Easter visit.... and more importantly, I managed not to cry with joy (or with sadness when they left)

They went back to their own homes for lunch and then at 6.30pm we had a family Zoom and my oldest granddaughter, stranded in Qatar, joined in.

It was a really lovely Christmas Day.... different, of course, in every way, but my heart was full just to be able to see them after so long. I yearned to hug them all but couldn't.

Back to my own company today which is fine. Roll on the vaccine when life will improve.

Good morning all from S Lanarkshire where it’s wet and rather breezy.

All the children seemed to have had a good day yesterday, it was lovely to see their excitement on FaceTime.

I’m looking forward to lounging on the sofa today with a book and my favourite chocolates.

DH is struggling a little, he has been suffering from a flare up of long-standing urology problems so this coupled with shingles is really pulling him down.

Hope everyone has a peaceful St Stephen’s Day.

Good Morning everyone from a chilly (0.2C) south coast.

We had the quietest Christmas Day I can remember but had a heart-warming zoom call with all the family. Best of all, phone calls from our eldest DGD later on as she had not been able to have our usual chat on the zoom call (bit chaotic at times when everyone tries talking at once!). She has just had her first term away at university and we have missed her bright and positive outlook so much since September.

Later on, her lovely boyfriend rang (with her in close attendance) to thank us for the present left under their family tree for him. He had been isolating as his Dad had a positive CV test and only late yesterday, found out it was a false positive, so the young lovers were joyfully reunited on Christmas Day evening!

Lovely end to the day and I went to bed smiling.

Good Morning Mick and all who follow, another house here with leftovers on the menu, although I will do some pigs in blankets and fresh mashed potato, mostly because I can’t sit on my backside 2 days running!
We have a family zoom quiz later, with all the family that we haven’t been able to see this year, but we face timed the GCs and daughter yesterday which was lovely.
We are now in tier 4, so a walk in the fields later with DD2s dog, it’s cold and Frosty again, but I think gales tonight,(?) so it might be a couple of days before we have a long walk again.

Good morning from dark cold E Kent. It is an unusual 3deg. Poor lorry drivers in Manston.
Nort, we saw Iris on zoom with her walking frame and glamorous black velvet skirt. She looked wonderful, moving well despite the unwieldy frame. Everyone seemed in high spirits. No tears, although I had anticipated loads from me.
My two DS looked well too. My heart was full of joy. Better in person, but hey, I see and hear more from my children with all the electronic wizardry than I ever did with my parents in the 1960s and 1970s when a phone call to Mauritius cost something like £2 per minute!
Hope Mary and Cherry, Nanas kate and french and everyone managed a good day/night. Back to the old grindstone...
Have a another gentle day, no cooking with all those leftovers (yay!). Stay safe.

We had a nice day yesterday but I felt sad when we had family Zoom rather than visits.
The turkey was lovely and there’s plenty left over of course, with gravy and stuffing to have a nice easy supper tonight.
