I am in tier 4. My partner and I did not see family at Christmas. My daughter also tier 4 now feels unwell and she is going to get a covid test for herself and my 7 year old Grandson.

Police here in Northamptonshire saying they will fine anyone who holds a New Year party £10,000. Two people fined that last week after holding Christmas parties. They were reported by neighbours. I'll be staying at home. Only bright spot is that my rugby team Northampton Saints had their first win for months on Saturday. I celebrated!

Yes things are bad here. Despite all the warnings irresponsible people seem to think they'll be OK to travel and mix etc. I was furious to hear that my niece and her boyfriend had travelled up here from London for Christmas. Needless to say they weren't invited here. Obviously I'm a miserable cow but we gave up our usual family Christmas for safety's sake.
Snowy here today. Did a big food shop so don't have to go out again. I've been enjoying old Poirot specials on TV.
The cat's not well. Been chewing the Christmas tree and very sick.

Hi Rufus, yes, it’s all rather downbeat here. I think the number of cases are a combination of extensive testing which we didn’t have earlier on and the new variant. So, we still stay at home, unfortunately not all heed the message, I wish we were as strict as Australia have been, I think the logistics, unless the army were used, are difficult. People need a kick up the proverbial; large, enforceable fines would help, no doubt. My stay safe sign off to you is even more pertinent ?

Yes Rufus you are correct . 41,000 cases. Plus over 20,000 being treated in hospitals . Somehow the few cases in the Northern Beaches doesn’t really have the same kind of shock/horror tone !

Good Evening Everyone! Despite the silence, I hope you are all OK!
Our TVNews had some terrible news about your Covid situation; I thought the TV announcer said over 40,000 new cases in 24 hours,
How could that come about? sad

Our health authorities and pollies of course, go stir-crazy when over a handful are discovered.

Now that a few new cases have been found in NSW, the 3rd Test in Sydney is under threat with Brisbane and Melbourne fighting to stage it. Having just lost the 2nd Test in Melb. it doesn’t seem to be a happy hunting ground for OZ tchhmm

Sydney will be setting off the usual fireworks display at NYE, much to the annoyance of local dogs, no doubt,; I think I’ve already mentioned that there will be no spectators by the harbour bridge and we are being urged to stay in and view the display on TV..

Being a night owl I’ve always stayed up to see in the New Year, although at 12.15am on New Year’s Day the “Knees-up” is over and I’m left wondering why did I bother? They’re all the same, but it’s a ritual I guess.

Not much else to report on!

MawBe You’re right as usual! “Field goal” does include a “drop-kick” like what wee Jonny Wilkinson kicked for the winning goal. I assume we’re both discussing the same Jonny? tchconfused
