To all those who have posted supportive messages and sent kind PMs in the last days, after my scary stay in hospital this week, I cannot find the words to say how much it has meant to me at a very low point.

I'm overwhelmed, but just can't find the energy to reply to all the PMs at the moment, so please don't think I'm ignoring you all.

This is GN at it's very best, when there have been some not so nice moments recently.

My special thanks to my pal, Chewbacca, who took the time to let my GN pals know, why I had vanished.

To the lurkers (I don't really like that word), who have never posted before, you have left me speechless with your kindness. ?

PS, I absolutely love the Derry Girls and can understand every word, probably due to my scary, Irish Granny.

Did anyone see them on the Bake Off special, what a lovely bunch of people and obviously very good friends.

Aw, no missed it! Love the programme, one of the funniest series on TV. Love the girls and the Mum and especially love the terrible relationship between the dad and the father-in-law, it's hilarious.

I can assure you I still have my own red hair at 65, albeit a little rusty, rather than it's original carrot shade. The roots have never needed done as I am a GENUINE REDHEAD and wouldn't know what to do with a bottle of hair dye. grin

When I was in hospital, I shared a room (all very chaste) with a lovely, very interesting, retired consultant, (changed times in hospitals due to the pandemic).
He told me about his daughter who was a red head. She was in Prague on holiday, when a gentleman came up to her, grabbed her long, flowing red locks and checked her roots, as it was very unusual to see a genuine redhead. ?

Did you think I was being rude about Marydoll needing to have her roots done?
grin

I'm sure she doesn't in RL - although I don't actually know!!

Oh baubles! I didn't know that!
I've never been able to watch Rab C. as I can't understand the accent (blushI know!)
In my defense, I am from the Black Country grin

No, I couldn't understand a word either - had to put subtitles on. It's the same with Derry Girls, love the programme, but can't understand a word of it!

Curlywhirly Fri 08-Jan-21 20:05:08

Marydoll I loved Rab C Nesbitt and especially loved the Marydoll character, trouble us, every time I see one of your posts, I visualise Rab's Marydoll! And I know from your descriptions, that you are nothing like her, but the image persists ?

Sorry to hear you've been unwell, hope you make a good recovery and feel much better soon. Take care of yourself.

Marydoll Fri 08-Jan-21 16:54:15

Marydoll was how my colleagues referred to me! Many an email started affectionately with, Dear MD, they found it highly amusing, because I was always very particular about my appearance. Everything had to match, including my underwear Rab's wife was of course the epitomy of elegance. ?

Thank you for all the lovely posts. I never thought I would be here to read them!!!

(Just to spare Mary's further blushes, the photo is a cheeky joke, it's taken from a sitcom starring a fictional character called Rab C. Nesbitt.)

Indeed. His long suffering wifie is named Mary but is always referred to as Marydoll by Rab. smile

Sorry you've been in hospital and hope your recovery goes well. I rarely post but thought I'd send my best wishes to you.
I did smile at your GM thread today with the tale re your hospital bag, hospital gown (Ooh Missus!) phone charger, and the bath!
Once you're feeling stronger why not dictate/record your happenings, so later you can turn them into a book: 'The Adventures (misadventures?) Of Marydoll'- it would be full of amusing anecdotes-I'd buy it! X

I think Ellan Vannin summed up how we all feel about you Marydoll - you are just like family!

So please do what we all tell you which is rest and recover. We need you as well as you can be and in your usual sparkling form asap. flowers

(Hope Mr MD has learned how to sort the heating to keep you cosy).

So many Grans didn’t know you were in hospital Marydoll.
I wonder why we all missed the thread?

There wasn't a thread about Mary being in hospitsl, as such.
It was mentioned by Chewbacca on the Good Morning thread at Mary's request.

All good wishes to you Mary xx
