To all those who have posted supportive messages and sent kind PMs in the last days, after my scary stay in hospital this week, I cannot find the words to say how much it has meant to me at a very low point.

I'm overwhelmed, but just can't find the energy to reply to all the PMs at the moment, so please don't think I'm ignoring you all.

This is GN at it's very best, when there have been some not so nice moments recently.

My special thanks to my pal, Chewbacca, who took the time to let my GN pals know, why I had vanished.

To the lurkers (I don't really like that word), who have never posted before, you have left me speechless with your kindness. ?

I just saw this, as well, and want to add my well wishes. I hope you continue to feel better. What an awful time to have to be in the hospital which is hard at the best of times! Glad you are in the comfort of your home now. flowers flowers

Thank paddyanne, but the heart attack is the least of my health worries. There is no fix for me, I'm afraid. I'm just about uninsurable now and would be foolish to consider travelling abroad now. The total bill for my NY trip a year ago cost less than the single trip insurance policy!!! Ouch !!!
I have had a very good innings and lots of wonderful memories of travelling abroad.

I have always wanted to visit Enniscorthy where my maternal Grandmother came from. Who knows, I might manage that?

Never say never,my OH had 3 heart attacks in quick succession,he didn't realise the first two were heart attacks .Luckily when he woke in the middle of the night he was sensible enough to phone NHS 24 and they blue lighted him to RAH .He didn't waken me until the ambulance was on its way ,silly begger didn't want me to worry.
Thankfully RAH and the Golden Jubilee sent him home fixed..but he thought he was invinceable then and he was back at work before a fortnight was up ..and cutting grass and walking miles as well as an exercise class with my physio that I find hard to do.
That was 9 years ago and I'm grateful to NHS Scotland every single day .Just take it a bit slower than he did and hopefully life will get better and a wee trip across the Irish sea might be on the cards. My GP 's were from Letterkenny and Co Antrim and Cork GGP's came here during the Famine though they married in Glasgow s Catholic cathedral and ggm took granny and her siblings home in 1888

Paddyanne, my four grandparents were also Irish. Unfortunately, I will have no further need for my British passport, let alone an Irish one.
My travelling days abroad are scuppered after this week's episode. I will never be able to visit my beloved Rome ever again. ☹ Hame'll dae me, as my mother use to say.

It's been a lovely thread Marydoll; full of goodwill and kindness.

Marydoll Sat 09-Jan-21 00:25:26

Hasn't this turned out to be a lovely, gentle thread, the way it has digressed?

I only intended it to be a one post, thank you thread to save me writing lots of PMs, as my brain was basically full of mince! ?

paddyanne Sat 09-Jan-21 00:21:04

Are you applying for your Irish Passport Marydoll2 of my 4 GP's were Irish and one of the others although born in Scotland went to Ireland with her mother when she was 6 weeks old and came back when she was 19.She always said she was Irish ,apparently" being born in a stable doesn't make you a horse".I love Ireland I always feel very much at home there .

Callistemon Sat 09-Jan-21 00:06:07

Oh, yes. Always a bit scary

baubles Sat 09-Jan-21 00:04:50

Marydoll my Grandad was Patrick Kelly! smile

Marydoll Fri 08-Jan-21 23:56:38

You may recognise Gregor Fisher's FIL, Peter Vaughan.

Callistemon Fri 08-Jan-21 23:54:07

Mmm they sound very moreish

Marydoll Fri 08-Jan-21 23:48:53

Baubles, I have family in Dublin too. (Second cousins) My grandfather was called Patrick Murphy, you can't get more Irish than that!

I had never heard of traybakes of any denomination, until I saw them in English magazines. grin

My traybakes are not any old traybakes, they are Marydoll's finest Mars Bar traybakes! wink

LauraNorder Fri 08-Jan-21 23:42:02

Wow Marydoll you’ve certainly brought out the very best of Gransnet, quite an accolade.
Long may you reign ?

Callistemon Fri 08-Jan-21 23:32:51

I think I'm in love again, paddyanne

Hugh Jackman, eat your heart out. I'm fed up with toy boys.

Curlywhirly

baubles Protestant Tray Bakes!!! Never heard of 'em. But then I'm a Catholic, so that may explain it. Loved the Mumsnet thread, though haven't read all of it yet, as it's 40 pages long!

Well exactly Curlywhirly! My Catholic family in Dublin would never have heard of traybakes, I learned once I had children at school in Scotland. grin

paddyanne Fri 08-Jan-21 23:31:18

You should google him Callistemon hes quite a distinguished looking man nowadays with his real silver locks.
Back in the day when we photographed the pools winners cheque presentations he was one of the most asked for to give them their cheques ,I'm sure folk were disappointed he didn't turn up in Rab C mode .

Callistemon Fri 08-Jan-21 23:29:25

Well, I've looked at his other persona and he fair made my heart beat faster! If that's him
I like a man with a twinkle ?

Chewbacca Fri 08-Jan-21 23:27:07

It was his string vest that used to make me swoon..... blush

Callistemon Fri 08-Jan-21 23:19:48

He's rather sweet, if you disregard the comb over!

Not quite my latest pash but it takes time

Marydoll Fri 08-Jan-21 23:17:47

Callistemon it actually looks very like me on a good day!?

Gregory Fisher is both an actor and comedian. He was also in Love Actually and the Hamlet Cigar advert.

Callistemon Fri 08-Jan-21 22:55:37

That's more how I imagine you, Marydoll!
Is that a self-portrait?

Curlywhirly Fri 08-Jan-21 22:48:00

I’m another huge fan of Derry Girls even although my family are from the south which is relevant to my link. This may amuse you given Marydoll’s fondness for a particular sweet treat.

Another Derry Girls fan here, it’s hilarious. It makes me laugh so much I sometimes have to rewind the tv as I miss what’s said next!

lemongrove Fri 08-Jan-21 21:49:44

Glad to see that you are back enjoying life marydoll and can take a joke.? Rab was a great character, is Gregor Fisher in many tv programmes and was he really a stand up comic or an actor ( or both?) Have never seen him in anything else since then.
