What are you glad you don’t have to do anymore?

Going to work every day, especially in the cold dark winter. That said, I miss the challenge and the craic in the office and would cheerfully do it two days a week.

I'm pleased to be shot of a lot of things others have mentioned - turning out for work and clock watching, periods, especially periods. And, thanks to Covid, not being invisible anymore in the street and have people barge straight through me. Not having physical contact with people I barely know.. I love being avoided!

I am pleased not to be nursing any more. I retired a few years ago and initially in the pandemic felt the urge to be back helping but am now so relieved not to. Decades ago I was an intensive care nurse which was stressful enough then looking after patients in ventilators. But now seeing the staff all in PPE and dealing with high mortality rates is horrific.
Feeling guilty that I am no longer a nurse but very relieved.

Going to work.
Periods.
Kissing strangers. I prefer to get to know them first.
Trying to fit 48 hours in to 24.
Desperately wanting 30 minutes me time.
But I miss the cuddles, being wanted, being useful, flawless skin and slim.? I had them once, so shouldn’t hanker for what's gone. I have endless me time.

Being retired, I am so so so SO glad I never have to be on call overnight ever again. 15 hours of on call between two day shifts for over 30 years where meals were interrupted, being pulled out of a deep sleep to drive in all weather to whatever the situation, the bone weary tiredness of being out on call all night with a subsequent sleep disturbance the next few days, the deep anxiety of making urgent solitary decisions in the early hours while out. Or worse in some ways the almost constant sleep disturbance from the phone but never leaving my bed. The next days tiredness was like I felt with a newborn. No, I don't miss being on call one little bit.

Not going to work, worrying about job security and at one time I was commuting 4 hours a day.

Being on call, because I could never mentally switch off, resulting in hearing the phone in my sleep when it wasn’t ringing, so I always felt tired. It’s also lovely not to have the 4am wake ups worrying about work crises.

Be sat at a desk by 9.am.
I Love snow in the South east we don’t get it very often but I still build a snowman when I get a chance.

Periods lol
If the day is cold or roasting hot just read a book and not move from the heater /fan
Not worry if my insomnia keeps me up till 3 am. It doesn't matter if I am tired during the day.
If feeling unwell having the guilt about not going to work .

Getting up at 5:30 am on school days to get to our school teacher daughter for 7am so she could get to her school. Summer , Winter , snow , fog , rain and muddy puddles! ,walking grandsons to and from their school ! But now they are grown up , one 18 now at college and younger one is 14, both working from home because of closures.. but we do miss those earlier days , seeing them meeting their class mates in the playground and chatting to mums about their day ... not having to get up earnings a cold morning is lovely , anyone else feel like that?

Get up in the dark! I used to get up at 6.30am to walk the dogs before I left for work; it's nice in the summer, but hell on cold wet winter mornings. I retired a year ago, and it's bliss to be able to stay in bed.

Sending Christmas cards to 100+ staff because it was expected
Any work related socialising
Being a slave to the phone at work
Having to pay a mortgage
My OH’s paperwork, especially the accounts
All of what others have posted

Going to work, I retired four years ago. Getting up for the early shifts, a killer as I got older.
Having to wash iron cook clean every day.

Office parties. Having to be with others that you wouldn’t choose as friends and pretend I was enjoying myself for the sake of ‘bonding’.

Periods. I smile when I pass the sanitary products in a supermarket and head for the chocolate isle to purchase a treat with the money I’ve saved.

Going to work , now retired . Don’t have to be in the rat race anymore

I loved work, but am so glad I dont have the alarm clock on any more, and arise when I want to, and yes not having to scrape the ice from the car windows.Bliss!

Back to the buying chocolate instead of sanitary products, it must be 15 years since I last bought any. Would I be a bad person if I backdated those purchases. What would 15 years worth of chocolate look like?

I'm glad I don't have to deal with periods any more . Not having to have sex with my husband . Also not having to deal with school drama's .

I am glad I no longer work nights on the local hospital switchboard with this virus going round.
