Celebratory Cards for all occasions

My two grandsons have birthdays next month one will be 8 and the other 10. I realised that I wouldn’t be able to get them birthday cards so I have ordered personalised ones online which are not much more in money than ones bought in a shop.

I got a Harry Potter one for the 10 year old wishing him a magical birthday from one company and then the Ninjago one from another company for the 8 year old showing some of his favourite characters. They will be sent to me for us to add our own message.

Here’s a little quiz for you as I am not supposed to advertise the card company. The HP card was called - First word celestial object, second word he lives in a sty. ?

Another recommendation for Moonpig. Received son's 30th birthday card yesterday, it's perfect.
I will say though that a lot of their cards require you to upload photos. If you want to see only designs without photos there is a box to click.

As I have nothing better to do I will go on Moonpig and order all my cards for the year to be sent directly to the recipients.

I have to praise Moonpig customer service. I ordered cards which still haven't arrived after 10 days. I know it is because our Royal Mail sorting office is extremely short staffed and ordinary post isn't being delivered.
I contacted Moonpig via their website and received a reply almost immediately. They have refunded my money and sent out a duplicate set of cards in case they are lost in transit.
Couldn't ask for more really.

I always use moonpig for my English family and friends. Their Australia branch was excellent when DD lived there. Others are just as good for choice but as they prefer PayPal payment, which I find problematic, I don’t use them.

There are a whole lot of websites out there that will let you download and customise free cards for every occasion. All you need is some stiff card to print them out on. As my printer tends to jib at some stiff card, I print out onto ordinary paper, then stick onto the card with glue. People seem to like them, and I can make them much more personal.

Can I ask about soliciting contributions to charities or fundraising campaigns?

There was a thread a few days ago that asked for contributions to a political fund, I was a bit doubtful about that.

Or doing something like flagging up a particular charity or, say, a post on GoFundMe?

I looked on the etiquette page but couldn’t see a guide to anything about this.

Thank you.

Hello, just popping on to confirm that yes, you are very welcome to share recommendations of products or companies - and links are a bonus as they make it much easier for other users to find exactly what it is you're talking about. We only ask that you don't promote your own company or product - or are affiliated to them in some way. smile

Kate1949 Mon 11-Jan-21 09:49:22

The Card Factory online do personalised cards very cheaply.

Elegran Mon 11-Jan-21 09:48:29

Ummmm- MaggieMay , the A****n is a big river in South America (Not that I am bullying you in any way!!! but if you asked at a railway station in Nairobi for a ticket to the A****n you might get a short and dusty answer)

One thing to check if you’re buying online is the size of the cards. I ordered some Christmas cards direct from an artist. They are lovely, but so tiny, like the ones my children would send their classmates back in the day. My own fault of course.

I've used them to send abroad a lot.

Mapleleaf Mon 11-Jan-21 09:43:08

Yes, I've found them extremely useful whilst we have been/are in lockdown. In fact, I've got a couple to sort out for special birthdays this month. I never bothered with them before, but they are very handy for the times we are living through.

At Christmas I received a couple of Kate Dorothy cards. I have looked them up and they do personalised cards.

The GN rules are clear that we can mention company names and link to websites too if we’re just recommending something that others might find helpful, and not spamming the site with our own products.

So as I’m not the CEO of Sainsburys or Asda, I can say that in normal times I get most of my cards from supermarkets. The ranges have really improved and they’re very good value. I used to use Moonpig a lot but the postage adds to the cost if you have them sent to you first to add a message.

I’m not going to supermarkets these days and have had some good quality cards from traders on Amazon, aka A****n or the company that sounds like a big river in Africa wink.

A while ago this question was asked about naming websites. If I remember correctly, GNHQ came back and said it was OK, because we are not try to advertise or sell goods.
People were getting tied in knots, talking about the Orange shop and the Long River company.

Pittcity Mon 11-Jan-21 09:26:15

I've been using them a lot more recently, sometimes sending the card direct to the recipient to save time.
Be warned though that they are taking some time to be delivered now. Before Covid I could order a card one day and it'd be delivered the next, now it's over a week.

FannyCornforth Mon 11-Jan-21 08:40:15

Thank you Kate, that makes sense now

NanKate Mon 11-Jan-21 08:21:11

Perhaps Fanny I could have mentioned the name I think in retrospect it’s just the website I can’t include.

Yes 25Avalon it is a good idea to continue using them. One for a friend’s 80th and one for our 50 WA in October. I’m on a roll. ?

NanKate, I have been buying cards online as can’t go to the shops and I have been surprised at the choice, inexpensive price, quality and how lovely the cards are when they arrive all safely packaged from companies using Amazon. Yours from MP sound lovely. I bet your gss will be delighted. It makes you wonder why you didn’t do it before.
