DGS1 has some good quick and taxing (me) games he brings on sleepovers - Dobble, Cobra and Pizza are latest. I am very slow at thinking answers so he and Papa always win but they are good fun and he loves beating me! DD2 work just moved to new hospital yesterday and they had massive clearout of old games like old Monopoly with original items, mousetrap Giant Jenga and Millionaire. She was trying them out on DGS2 who is 2 ½ . So Monopoly was negotiated by a monster truck and only he was allowed to set off the mousetraps, giant jenga was built into a huge tower to be knocked down by the monster truck and he crawled into the tunnel where the beanbags were thrown at the targets (he likes tunnels) but it was great fun! We didn't try Millionaire but it's for 12 and over and looks hard though DGS1 just asks Siri never mind phone a friend!
I love board games but my OH wont play. We've got Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Taboo, Articulate, draughts, Cleudo, Boggle, Othello in the cupboard along with cards and dominoes but they only make an appearance at xmas with the family.
DH and I play Scrabble and Draughts and do jigsaws together. When the GC visit we play Monopoly and Cluedo, but if games are too long or slow I get bored. I'm useless at games that require strategic planning or a good memory, so I don't play cards at all. I'm just not very competitive.
Love cards, and when AC come to eat they will join in too. Also board games but oh my the names of some are not the run of the mill. Any of you played “Secret Hitler” ?
When our children were younger we didn't have a TV so we often entertained ourselves with board games, jigsaw puzzles (every Christmas!!) and quizzes and they have become family staples.
Every holiday my husband and sons play games whilst my I read alongside my daughter-in-law (who occasionally joins in with their games). I join in with Backgammon, Scrabble or Yahtzee and the odd game of Cluedo or Monopoly, but have to be in the right mood (i.e. be between books )
During lockdown my husband and our two adult sons get together once a week for an online game of Battleships, or something similar. They are still all little boys at heart I think.
I love board games and miss being able to play them with the grandchildren. Actually my favourite ones do not necessarily have a board. I like Articulate, Boggle, Bananagrams, Five Second Rule, Triominoes, as well as Othello, Scrabble and lots more. I wonder if I can persuade DH to abandon the eternal television.
We played a lot in France with others, Rummikub, that’s where we were introduced to it and have played with the children. We haven’t played for nearly a year now, used to play UNO with the grandchildren too.
Online board games are not at all the same as playing the physical version. A good game of Scrabble with a nice fat dictionary on the table and a bottle of wine on the side is one of the best ways to pass time with a significant other or a good friend. Monopoly, Game of Life and Careers are all lovely with family members.
Online, remote games just don’t do it for me. But then, I play patience with real playing cards, do crosswords on a paper newspaper and spend weeks over cardboard jigsaws. I like handling things rather than just tapping a screen.
There is a huge range of board games now, not just the old familiar ones. There are also websites where you / he can play board games with others online.
I used to play cards a lot when I was younger. It got quite competitive but I dont enjoy so much now. We do play with the GCs sometimes which is great fun. I am addicted to blockpuzzle now on my phone a great way to pass the empty hours.
I taught GD to play Monopoly and it's now become very competitive between us. So much so, that I've invested in the new Mega Monopoly and she's getting better at it than me.
