Her thinking was I had produced the required heir and a spare ?

When I was pregnant with my fourth baby, after a nine-year gap, a midwife told me that everything was different now when you had a baby. My mind boggled at the very thought!

It turned out to be pretty much the same as when I’d had the first three.

My mother told me never to show a man my shoulders !!!!
Nothing about any other bits of me.

I have posted this before, some time ago though.

From a visiting mid-wife ... "but, you MUST wake baby to feed it!!!". This was in 1999 not Victorian times!
WHAT????? Are you MAD??? [I silently shouted in my head"] As if the usual sleepless nights arnt bad enough.
(btw "baby" was perfectly well and with all the correct weight gain and development etc - before anyone decides to advise me further)

When we’d been married for only six months, living in a horrible area of Manchester far away from my family and friends and feeling as if I didn’t have a friend in the world, my husband worked shifts so I never saw him. Our doctor told me to have a baby (I was only 20!) as I wouldn’t have time to be miserable then!

A friend told me not to marry my boyfriend. He has a child by his first marriage . Her reasoning was that he wouldn't be as excited by our first child as he had already been through the experience. Such rubbish, I turned out to be right, even after nearly 50 happy years.

Be careful who you take advice from would be my advice.

A (childless by choice) relative constantly gave advice on how I should bring up my children, always prefixed the advice with "I know I haven't got children but many of my friends do so I think I know a lot more than those who do have them" and then went on to criticise everything and anything! Perhaps if I watch a few documentaries on brain surgery I could become one!

Then you could have a look and see if she's actually got one!

Also quite insulting to men and all the boyfriends I eventually had.

We had to move from the southwest to the northwest because if my husbands job. We had a 7 yr old son and two 10 yr old cats. A close friend asked would we be taking our cats, I replied yes and our son as well. What on earth she thought we would do with our much loved cats we had had since they were 6 weeks old. She herself had a dog so it wasn’t as if she didn’t have pets.

On asking for directions - “You don’t want to be starting from here”.

Oh my mum told me she would take me to see the doctor to get me on the pill cos I was getting married. I was 30!

Living on a shoe-string I stupidly mentioned to my mother that I would need to wait to the following month to buy a new pair of boot-laces.

She asked why, and I said I had very little housekeeping money left for the last fortnight of the month, so I had knotted my broken lace.

"That's ridiculous, " said she, "You simply divide a month's housekeeping money by 30, so you know exactly how much you can use every day."

I tried to explain that if I did that, I would never be able to buy more than a loaf of bread and a pint of milk a day, but she wasn't having that, even when I explained the figures behind the statement.

A male doctor telling me to 'ride out' the menopause. I'm still trying too, but I think if Covid hadn't arrived I'd of been at the HRT clinic. I feel they have more important things to do at the minute and don't want to bother them.

My grandmother- “Marry for money, the love will come later.”

It didn’t for her.

When I had my financial problems I was told that I should stop worrying about money as it was not important. This woman was privately educated, had a good job, her late husband had left her well off and she had been all over the world. Told her she was talking crap.

From my husband, as a response to many things I say or do "what you should have said (or done)".
Maybe what I should have done was to bury him under the patio.....

Don't apply for that job you are unemployable! My mum said that to me about 10 years ago!
