When I was in my 40s I went through a phase of struggling to find work. My mother kept telling me, to say I was 10 years younger. In her working days you did not need passports and other id to get work.

Not me , but a neighbour. She was telling me that her son had sunburn and someone had told her that the best way to treat it was for him to have a really hot shower! I looked at her and slowly said,"That's just about the worst piece of advice I have ever heard". It still is.

A "friend" phoned to find out why I wasn't at work - told her I had been diagnosed with severe depression her reply was to pull myself together as I had nothing to be depressed about! She then went on to tell me all the things wrong in her life - not surprisingly we are no longer friends.

It was my mother.

Best friend lecturing me on how I cannot rely anything google brings up in a search. I tried pointing out that as my career had been based on researching and verifying information. I was well-up on this topic, but she over rode me, she knew better than I did.

In 65 years of friendship I came nearer to putting the phone down on her than I ever have in the past.

Don't wash your hair or have a bath when you have your period! My best friend in the late sixties. I ignored her.

Not advice as such but back in 1976 I phoned my mother to tell her I was pregnant. Her response...why do you want a baby...you have two cats...

One of the worst pieces of advice I was given when I was young and setting up on my own was Don't pay your gas, electricity and phone bills until they threaten to cut you off.
Never did it.

A 39 year old single childless person (who doesn't even work with children!) giving me advice on a number of occasions on how to bring up children! (I have 5)

Put a potato in a sock under your bottom bedsheet to cure aching, restless legs. I actually tried it. Didn't work.

People who know me would refrain from giving me advice as I am very feisty.

My brother constantly offers advice, particularly when he knows nothing about the subject. He could get a certificate in mansplaining.

Not sure a GP saying that to an obese patient is being rude. I don't regard it as any ruder than, say, "Take this medicine".
