Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark and wet outside but not as windy as late yesterday here in Brackley this morning.
To occupy myself , I am going to use some chicken pieces, I had in the freezer ,and create a Chinese style curry in the slow cooker .
I aim to put it on a low, so it will simmer , the aim is let it thicken slightly.
Otherwise a quiet day , assuming what the postie brings , who seem to be delivering earlier during the lockdown.
Take Care,
Mick

I think I need a Good afternoon thread. I’m so dozy first thing - can read, just, but not write.
Wet and windy here in West Sussex, as over most of the country, except where it’s snow instead.
Phone call earlier from DD1 who has recovered from vaccine side-effects apart from sore arm. So many home-care staff falling ill. I feel they, along with NHS staff, police, and teachers, should have had vaccine along with over-80s. As a retired nearly 70 year old, I don’t have to go out and would be happy to wait a bit longer (not that there’s any sign of jabs here even for my over-80 year old neighbour. Glad to hear that many GNrs have had theirs though. Hope Gagagran has better news of DSiL, DD and family.
Love the idea of you dancing along to The Proclaimers and Abba, Elizabeth1.
Hope your Chinese curry is bubbling away nicely, Mick.
? to all with pain or difficult feelings to grapple with.

Morning all from a grey overcast Kent. Well I made it - it was my 66th birthday on Monday . As I was reminded in several FB comments, I’m now officially a pensioner. DH found an’ On Your Retirement’ card in my stash of greeting cards and added my age and happy birthday to it! I realised that the card has been in the box for nigh on twelve years and I paid for it! ( Anyone remember Cards for all Occasions? )
Spent the day quietly - made chicken soup from our roast on Sunday, delicious! DH starting work earlier so left home at 18.00 instead of 19.00. Had a phone call from my mummy at 21.00 which lasted 90 minutes! All the usual family stuff ( I am eldest of eight!) , problems using her iPad (!) - she’s almost 89, saw a family name as a death on the church bulletin but hadn’t been told about it so I ended up doing a bit of surfing and was able to confirm. She’s a bit upset that things like that are happening and due to Covid, communication is incomplete. She will be able to view the funeral mass which will help.
Marydoll it’s good that you are able to help with DGD but please don’t overdo it. You can’t help at all if you’re in hospital! Is your DS thawing a bit due to your home schooling? As for DH, you haven’t mentioned his golf recently- maybe suggest a wee bit me-time for him so you can concentrate on Dollie.
I hope everyone has a good day , stay safe!

This is good afternoon from Cardiff but there is a reason. We had a power cut in the night which affected the clock radio - except we didn't know. Were wakened by our window cleaner (pushing his luck really) knocking the front door asking if he could go through to the back garden. I told him it was far too early and he apologised but didn't think 10 o clock was that bad. And we thought we were early - except we were very late, by two hours! So everything is off kilter now. Stay safe everyone.

I've come back to thank the many goodmorningers who have shown concern for me this morning and sent me well wishes. You are all kind and lovely people ?

Jaxjacky, I'm glad that your scan was clear ?

I am sorry to hear however that many of you lovely people are going through your own health worries and having wobbles, ? for each of you.

So good to hear that more of you have had the covid vaccine, a light ?️ in these difficult times.

Hope you are starting to feel better Grandmafrench ?
We're all still thinking of you gillybob x

Where's Taichinan? I hope wherever you are you are okay ?

Late again today! Good afternoon everyone. Today has been one long whirl! Firstly a Tesco delivery which was missing a load of items so that took some chasing up. Turns out the driver had missed a whole tray of mine, he came back with them later. Then the cat was sick, I know too much information! My OH does a lot of things but that is one thing he cant do as he starts reaching big strong man that he is! Then a panicked call from my neighbour who thought she had been burgled as her front door was open and she couldnt find the cat! Turns out she went to bed last night without locking the door and the cat was on top of the wardrobe! Its all go here!
I will now sit down with a cuppa and read your posts!
Stay safe all.

After all chores have been done I also enjoy settling down with my latest book Mapleleaf but more and more now, after a couple of chapters, I feel my eyelids getting heavier and have to give up reading with only one eye open before I end up having a snooze. ?. Really annoying when I am enjoying a good book too.

We are a good bit higher than you Marydoll and any snowfall lands here first, often with no sign of it in other areas.
Hope your cartridge turns up soon. I share your, where is it frustration, when deliveries go astray. ?

Urmstongran Wed 20-Jan-21 11:30:37

Stilllearning ?
Actually it was my daughter who said it first and I liked it too.

A late good morning from a very damp and grey Black Country. At least it is fairly mild.

Not a lot happening here today. Life is shrinking daily, but I do have an outing tomorrow. Taking Mum to the Doctors as she had a lump appear on her back. I took a photo and the doctor sent me a link last week to attach the photo. Her surgery is less than a 10 minute walk away, but the appointment is a 40 minute walk away up a steep hill! So will I drive over early tomorrow to take her to that appointment.

Just one more wall of the Living room to strip this afternoon. Then we can do no more until a plasterer can come to skim the walls and re-plaster the ceiling.

Wishing you all a good and safe day. Not forgetting gilly and hoping may be back posting soon.

Stilllearning Wed 20-Jan-21 11:11:22

Morning from S Lanarkshire, snow covered here too. I’ve taken so long to read everyone’s news this morning that everything seems to have been said, so I’ll just add that my book club went well yesterday, so I can confidently recommend the book I mentioned as a lovely uplifting read. Glad you talked about corned beef hash Gagagran, I had forgotten that I had planned that too!
Lovely to hear good news Jaxjacky.
I like your phrase ‘a smalled down life’ Urmstongran, it’s spot on for all of us just now.
Wishing everyone a good day

You can also get a hot one.

Eventually, I got a hold of HP, the new cartridge was posted 10 days ago! ? So where is it???

Kalu, it's just raining here and we are only 15 minutes down the road. Oh well, I'm not going anywhere, any time soon. grin

Mapleleaf Wed 20-Jan-21 10:42:52

Good morning all,

It's very wet and grey in South Yorkshire, but the rain has eased from how it sounded in the early hours.

Your Chinese slow cooked meal sounds a good idea, Mick. You'll have to report back on it when you post in the morning. I plan to make a chicken pie for tonight and that will use up all the roast chicken. We had a risotto with some of it last night. A whole chicken is really good value, isn't it?

Nothing more exciting than that planned for today. A few household chores to do then perhaps settle down with a book.

So pleased you were given a clean bill of health, Jaxjacky. You must have been anxious whilst waiting. To all of you with worries, injuries or ill health, I send best wishes and ?.

BlueSapphire Wed 20-Jan-21 10:39:13

Jaxjacky, just re-read your post and see that you have already been to the clinic and have the all-clear. Good news!

Jaxjacky Wed 20-Jan-21 10:38:27

Cherry you’re pragmatism to your seizures is admirable. Happy Birthday MrElizabeth lovely photo.
Auntieflo I had some hesitancy in posting as I’m aware of others postings, including yourself, I have my fingers crossed for your Friday visit.
Have a gentle day all.

Megs36 Wed 20-Jan-21 10:37:08

Morning all, Marydoll interesting hearing about your print cartridge tale, similar here, mine ran out, had spares ready but forgot how to replace them (relative new printer) , after an hour, some swearing a lot of frustration I pressed every button, lo and behold it seemed to work ?This is where I am finding the restrictions so annoying, I can’t call on the family ‘experts’ to pop in and help with all things tech. In the past I taught computers for some time but that knowledge seems to be slipping away. It’s all very well to be talked through things on WhatsApp or similar but nothing like someone sitting beside you and actually doing it for you !!!!!!

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 20-Jan-21 10:37:07

Good Morning all from wet Harrogate
Good News Jaxjacky - if you have any spare vigour, can I have some?
Cherry I take it your epilepy medication doesn't work all the time? That must be dreadful.
Marydoll your DH sounds just like mine if I try to get him to do anything with technology - I end up having to do it!

Well today I have had my invitation to go for my COVID! But have to travel 18 miles to York when there is a perfectly adequate sit in Harrogate - doesn't make sense!

My bank account is Locked so I have to find out about that and I have been trying to get hold of Virgin Media because our internet apparently has weak security.
Think that's my day sorted!!

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible!

BlueSapphire Wed 20-Jan-21 10:36:57

Jaxjacky, I was referred to the fast track breast clinic with breast pain, and after an examination and mammogram was given the all clear. Both the surgery nurse and the consultant could feel no lumps and said that pain is not usually a sinister sign. DD is convinced it is something to do with the trapped nerve I had on the same side before Christmas. Know how you feel as I suffer from terrible health anxiety, and it sometimes consumes every waking thought. Hope that you get the reassurance that I did.flowers

GrannyGravy13 Wed 20-Jan-21 10:24:22

Good morning (?) Mick and all

I am late this today as the one year old wanted to play and scream all night, I tried everything to get him to sleep (DD is poorly) in the end DD and I took it in turns. He is now sound asleep on my lap on the sofa!!!(GrandpaGravy slept through the noise of course?)

Will catch up with your news during the day.

Keep safe and well folks ?‍♀️

BlueSapphire Wed 20-Jan-21 10:23:57

Good morning from a very wet Northampton. Have just had a text from the surgery reminding me about my Covid vaccination tomorrow.

Another groundhog day, really. Have just put bedding in the washing machine and will make bed up once the mattress has aired. Try to sort out my new coffee machine, which is only giving me hot water instead of coffee. DD has said she will look at it tomorrow, but will probably return it to the shop for a replacement.

More reading and knitting planned for later, and will watch Biden's inauguration this afternoon on tv.

Have a pleasant day everyone.

dragonfly46 Wed 20-Jan-21 10:22:26

Viridian that is so clever. I would love to see a picture when they are finished. I like quirky things.

GrannyOwl thank you for asking. It was a video call and went really well but the outcome was I don't really need counselling! The counsellor thinks I am strong not sure about that!

Viridian Wed 20-Jan-21 10:18:52

The figures are radical Nortsat, not to everyone's taste, but our vicar is into all sorts of art fortunately and knows they will stimulate good conversation. I'll post a pic or two in due course.

Urmstongran Wed 20-Jan-21 10:17:39

You sound low harrigran I hope your sore shoulder gets easier soon. You have both endured a tough few weeks and lack of appetites can’t be helping you to enjoy life.
? for you both. x

Auntieflo Wed 20-Jan-21 10:16:52

Good morning Mick, Annie, and all, from a wet and windy bit of Berks.
Viridian, I am glad you have told us what you are doing with all that concrete. I thought perhaps it was a pair of concrete boots for someone. ?
Lovely pictures Ashcombe, and what a place to have to act in!
All this talk of curry and lamb etc, make me hungry, and I've only just finished breakfast. Marydoll, that curry mix sounds a good idea. I wonder if it is available on line? I also hope you are not overdoing things, as it sounds as if you are still beavering away at many and different tasks. Be a good girl.
When I read through the posts, I think, "oh, I must say this, or mention that", then when I get to the end, all is forgotten, and I have to scroll back.
Jaxjaxky, I am so pleased that you have been given a clean bill of health. I am going through a worrying time now.
Sorry to hear you had a disturbed night Cherry, and hope you do not have any bruises. You'll have to put a crash mat by the side of the bed ?
I was told , last Friday, that I am to have a PET scan, this Friday, but to date I have had no further letter or phone call to give me an appointment time, or any instructions that I may have to follow. This morning I have left two messages and hope someone picks them up and gets back to me.
Apologies to any that I have missed. Sending calm and healing thoughts to you all.
Have a good day one and all.

Georgesgran Wed 20-Jan-21 10:15:26

Good morning from Durham. It’s raining again!! Managed a walk yesterday with DD and DGS - we ended up like drowned rats - but it’s only water, as we say up here. I’d spilt a cup of tea on my cream carpet and she has a fancy vacuum thing, which I’ve borrowed and will use today.
Popping to a local Garden Centre for glue - long story, but it’s important I get it and I feel safer there than in DIYs or local Supermarket.
DH decided to look for an old tablet last night to donate - couldn’t find it but he’s put out a mountain of old papers to be shredded and more wires for long gone gizmos than Curry’s have.
The study’s a tip, so that’s my job for this afternoon.

Hope everyone stays safe.

Kalu Wed 20-Jan-21 10:10:41

Good morning from a snow covered Glasgow. You must have missed the snow falling up here Marydoll Another winter wonderland.

I think it’s safe to say, normal service has been resumed as my black cloud has lifted and I feel much more positive.

I have been out in the garden to clear a few patches in the snow and left some chunks of fat balls for the birds. Next project is to don my micro dusting gloves to wipe dusty surfaces which will look good for a day or two anyway. One of those Forth Bridge tasks. ?

Hope everyone has a good day and a better one for those who are struggling with whatever you are having to cope with.

Susan56 Wed 20-Jan-21 10:09:06

Good morning Mick and all from a very rainy Shropshire.

Our journey home yesterday was not as traumatic as the journey there.Took a lot longer due to flooding but thank goodness we didn’t come across another accident.A lot of flooding locally.

DH will watch all coverage of the inauguration so I will do what I need to do then settle down and do some reading.

Cherry??good to see you back.Take it easy today.x

Hope Grandmafrench is ok and feeling better?
