Corrie in my opinion are making a real mess of their Corona take in the series
There is just no continuity at all, sometimes no one is wearing a mask or some are and some arent the ones that do wear then often seem to wear them in the street and take them off when they go in the shop!!! They have the masks that are on hanging from an ear or under a nose
The restaurants are opened for seated customers the pub is open
There’s no real sign of social distancing
Its really quite silly and would in my opinion have been better if they had ignored it altogether

Did you mean Kirsty Doodledog ?
Wonder how Alina would feel about it all now she is pregnant. I do find her character annoying and can't understand Tyrone falling for her apart from the obvious of course.

Doodledog Sat 26-Jun-21 11:33:05

I know you can’t pay large sums of notes into a personal account without questions. Rita might have been using a business account though, and I’m guessing that that’s different.

Ruby might be going to leave money to Tyrone, or to Ruby. If it’s the latter it would make an interesting storyline. As we were discussing on the premium bond thread it would be really difficult to have a rich child and a poor one under the same roof, although the girls are so young it wouldn’t really matter yet. Unless the scriptwriters have other ideas . . .

Calendargirl Sat 26-Jun-21 10:54:09

Yes harrigran but cheques are a bit different to taking large sums of cash out. You can see who they are payable to, whereas cash could be given to anyone, the con man who has sent a courier to collect it, scams, the controlling relative, an unscrupulous neighbour, the list is endless.

Plus with all the money laundering regulations nowadays, cash is viewed with suspicion. Dirty money being laundered.

harrigran Sat 26-Jun-21 09:28:40

Yes we did see the cash, Rita had a pile of notes on the table in front of her.
My bank will give you that amount over the counter because I have an account that allows it.
Not sure that banks check every transaction as I have written a handful of cheques for five figure sums in the last year or two and nobody has queried what they were for.

timetogo2016 Sat 26-Jun-21 09:22:36

Well back to the masks on/off/half on half off,it`s a bit like real life.
And thats possibly why the masks are worn or not as the case maybe.
I don`t watch Eastenders or Emmerdale and Corrie is only on when dd is in the house.
And yes, some of the acting leaves alot to be desired.

Sorry, I've no idea, but I want to know whether Sharon had helped herself to Rita's money before she left?

And also, is it possible to go to a bank and withdraw £10k in used notes?

Did we actually see the cash or was it just assumed to be the handbag? Can’t remember

A few years back a very elderly (totally 'with it') Lady I knew wanted to transfer ten thousand pounds over to her son in Oz. He was very ill, and wanted an extension on his house. At no time had he asked her for this money. She wanted him (her only child) to have it.
She was asked to come into her Bank, and saw one of the Advisers there who really quizzed her (in a nice way), as exactly why she was sending such a large sum of money. They asked if she really knew where it was going, and if she was being, in any way, persuaded to do this.
Only when the bank was perfectly satisfied that she really understood the amount of money she was sending, and they also verified that he was her son, etc. did they permit this to go ahead.

I am pretty sure that no bank in UK would just hand over nine grand in cash to an elderly person without a lot of questioning.
It was all done for dramatic effect, but very unrealistic. Is Rita going to put that money back in the Bank, or will one of Sharon's 'employees' steal it?he c

With regard to Kirsty's death. Many years ago, I fostered a little boy, he came to us when he was eleven months. His parents were permitted to visit (mainly supervised), every few weeks - but they were often not well enough for this to happen. Over the following two or three years he did get to know them as visitors who always brough a present.

He was 4 years old when his biological Dad died, and his Mum asked me to 'break' this 'devastating' news to him. I did tell him, gently. However, as it made absolutely no difference to his life he just said 'Okay' and went off to play.

As far as we (the watchers of Corrie) are aware, Kirsty has never even seen Ruby since she was a small baby. Seems just to be part of the plot to start to get Fitz and Tyrone back together again.

Beechnut Sat 26-Jun-21 07:40:22

Rita would be interrogated ?by the bank staff drawing that amount of money out.

Calendargirl Sat 26-Jun-21 07:24:47

And why did Rita draw only £9k out?

I thought Sharon would either hit her over the head to get the cash, or be shot (yes, another Dirty Harry moment) as she walked off with her cases.

The cases looked heavy.

hmm

Calendargirl Sat 26-Jun-21 07:21:52

Nasty old me, but I couldn’t see why Tyrone was quite so devastated at the news about Kirsty’s death, the having to tell Ruby bit. I know she was Ruby’s birth mum, but did she ever see her? They make a big deal about Fiz being her proper mum, as such, so don’t imagine the news will be a huge issue for Ruby.

Where do Ty and Alina get all their money from? Motor bikes, leathers, portraits, nights away in hotels.

Alina’s beauty business must pay well.

BlueBelle Sat 26-Jun-21 07:13:47

That bit was very strange wasn’t it doodledog if Rita wasn’t going to give her the money why did she go and draw it all out and I didn’t think you could take all that much out in cash ?
And after being totally ruthless would Sharon just wander off out of the show knowing there was 10k sitting in Rita’s bag !!
Very very daft storyline
As is the Tyrone/Fizz story which has gone really silly now
I know it’s a lighthearted show but they need some better script writers

Who played Fiz and Tyrone’s mediator in tonight’s episode?

I knew her face, but the name escapes me.

Anyone?

Namsnanny

Yes *Calendargirl I hope Daisy gets her marching orders, but like you I doubt it!
Whenever she comes into the shot, I have to turn the sound down!

Yes, she’s so irritating. That’s probably the character though. When she smiles, she reminds me of a clown.

henetha Sat 12-Jun-21 10:17:56

Well I still like Corrie anyway. Its just a lighthearted soap which I find entertaining. Sometimes it's daft, I agree, but I don't care. And I've always found Dev rather attractive. smile

Dorsetcupcake61 Sat 12-Jun-21 10:09:30

I was delighted to see this thread active again?. I agree with many comments about Dev,his acting is so OTT ,I do wonder what he is like in real life. Maybe I'm getting sentimental but I actually found the storyline between him and Gemmas mum quite sweet, they obviously have an unexpected connection with the potential for a genuine relationship. The ducking and diving also reminded me of the comedy in corrie of former years. I thought Devs conversation with Steve was horrid but probably very realistic. I'm secretly hoping for a happy ending!
Unlike poor Fiz and Tyrone. I was in a similar position to Fiz 25years ago,and even now I remember the pain and thought the portrayal realistic. Theres something quite calculating about Alina. I think old Tyrone may start to regret his mid life crisis. Evelyn was hard to take to initially but I think could become a corrie icon, funny, strong, hard as nails but with a soft inside when needed. It was so obvious the heartbreak of the friend she alluded to was hers.
It's fun watching Steve at the moment alongside the 1998 corrie . I wonder where Tracy has disappeared to?
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Aveline Sat 12-Jun-21 09:29:17

I agree. Thank goodness for Maureen Lipman!

Shropshirelass Sat 12-Jun-21 09:08:54

I find the soaps boring and uninteresting now. They used to be good and had strong storylines but they seem to have lost their way whilst still trying to get the points over.

Sara1954 Sat 12-Jun-21 09:06:55

The scriptwriting for Nanna is pure genius

sodapop Sat 12-Jun-21 09:03:13

Like BlueBelle I continue to watch despite the dire acting at times and unbelievable story lines. Think it's a bit of home comfort for me. Dev was even more ridiculous last night it was painful to watch.
The Nina story line last night was not good either. I realise they are working in difficult conditions of course. Thank goodness for Maureen Lipman.

Franbern Sat 12-Jun-21 08:54:56

I always watch recorded episodes (do this with any programme that has adverts). So, not only can fast forward the adverts. but also any scenes with story lines/characters that I dislike!!!

I do find the Tyrone/Alina story very unreal. Such a pity that the scriptwriters decided to break up the 'happy' coupling of Tyrone and Fitz. We all need successful pairing at times in our Soaps. Seems strange that the most successful one in Corrie, at present is Steve and Tracy!!!

Suppose that the Dev/Bernie story is for comic relief.

Sara1954 Sat 12-Jun-21 08:16:13

We are always a few episodes behind, so last night for us, Corey made bail
I’m a bit fed up with it at the moment, Sharon has been awful, she reminds me of the child catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the way she menacingly stalks about.
But my real hate is Daisy, I absolutely can’t stand her.
Thankfully we haven’t got to the Bernie/Dev love scenes yet, but I’m not looking forward to them!
Ronnie has grown on me, but the rest of his family are just awful, especially nasty Grace and the hideous Aggie, who thankfully we now only get the odd glimpse is on Eddie’s phone, still she manages to be a controlling old bag.
Why do we watch it?
Because despite everything, we love it.

Charleygirl5 Sat 12-Jun-21 06:57:31

It has deteriorated over the years and I need subtitles on because the youngsters speak so quickly and I find their diction to be poor.

I agree with everything BlueBelle has said. A bunch of bad actors with unbelievable storylines.

Tyrone and Alina are not exactly a match made in heaven either. A few need to be weeded out permanently starting with all of Ronnie's family.

Calendargirl Sat 12-Jun-21 06:55:42

Why do I watch Corrie and not only watch it but look forward to it?

Because we’ve watched it most of our lives, it fills up a harmless hour a few times a week, we feel we know most of the characters, even though we don’t, occasionally, very occasionally, there are genuine classic storylines and acting, and finally, it gives us here on GN something to grumble or laugh about.
