Mine is All things bright and beautiful, I’ve loved this since very young,

storynanny Sat 30-Jan-21 20:59:22

Oh Jesus I have promised ( newer tune)
Thank you for waking me this morning
The second song I can remember a man with a guitar coming to my infant school and singing it to us as a newly written song ( 1961/2/3?)
I sat on a bench in the school hall and loved it
Have taught it to every class I’ve ever had and they have all loved it too!

Is that one or two hymns Callistemon ? ?

lemongrove Sat 30-Jan-21 20:56:44

Thanks Bellanonna and Spinnaker it’s a lovely hymn, both the music and the words.

Callistemon Sat 30-Jan-21 20:55:03

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Forgive our Foolish Ways

Grandma70s Sat 30-Jan-21 20:54:24

I have a lot of favourites, but I think Morning Has Broken comes top. It made me feel so happy when I sang it as a child, I’ve always been a morning person!

BlueSky Sat 30-Jan-21 20:46:06

How Great Thou Are and Amazing Grace, even though I’m not religious.

Bathsheba Sat 30-Jan-21 19:13:33

If we're talking hymns sung in school or church, then I'd choose Soul of my Saviour, Faith of my Fathers, Morning has Broken, and the 23rd Psalm

But in a break from the usual here, the following have to be my absolute favourites:

Panis Angelicus
Ave Verum Corpus
Laudate Dominum
Agnus Dei - (Samuel Barber)

Georgesgran Sat 30-Jan-21 18:48:00

Love divine.
I vow to thee my country.
Eternal Father - for those in peril on the sea.

BBbevan Sat 30-Jan-21 18:41:55

Immortal, iInvisible. Reminds me of school assemblies

Blossoming Sat 30-Jan-21 18:39:00

Eternal Father Strong to Save

Greenfinch Sat 30-Jan-21 18:27:38

Majesty.

Judy54 Sat 30-Jan-21 16:41:53

Soul of my Saviour
Lord for tomorrow and its needs
When you walk through the waters
My God loves me

One that I came across recently is called Faithful One part of the words are: You are my rock in times of trouble, through the storm your love is my anchor. These words have helped me so much during recent difficulties with my Husband's continuing health problems.

Puzzler61 Sat 30-Jan-21 16:31:43

It has to be Love Divine All Loves Excelling but I like one tune only.

Spinnaker Sat 30-Jan-21 16:28:29

Have to admit that apart from Christmas carols, I have always found most hymns depressing and a bit of a dirge. That said, there are a few nice uplifting ones including Morning Has Broken, Amazing Grace, and a lovely Catholic hymn that I can never remember the title of ....Star Of The Sea ?

I play Star of the Sea on the piano Lemongrove - it's one of my oldest sheets of music and it's a lovely piece.

Bellanonna Sat 30-Jan-21 16:25:40

Lemongrove, that one’s Hail Queen of Heaven, Star of the Sea.
I also love To be a Pilgrim and How Great Thou Art. I want those to see me off if I can hang around until a time singing will be allowed again.

The Old Rugged Cross

The Day Thou Gavest.
Jerusalem.
Love Divine.
I Vow To Thee My Country.
Lead Us Heavenly Father Lead Us.
Be Thou My Vision.
Lord Of All Hopefulness.

MiniMoon Sat 30-Jan-21 16:14:59

Through all the changing scenes of life.
And,
Here I am, Lord.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 30-Jan-21 15:52:38

Jerusalem and Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. I'm very much a traditionalist.

For my very jolly Uncle at his funeral I had 'One more step along the world I go'. From the old I travel to the new, it just suited him.
For my Mother it was, Think of a world without any flowers. and Brother Sister let me serve you.
They both suited her to a tee.

Mine, To be a Pilgrim.
John Bunyan..

Bodach Sat 30-Jan-21 15:47:36

"O Valiant Hearts" - but I can never get through it without weeping.

Gagagran Sat 30-Jan-21 15:45:01

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind forgive our foolish ways...

Have always loved this hymn .

sodapop Sat 30-Jan-21 15:40:57

Love all the Methodist hymns
The Old Rugged Cross

How great Thou art
Rescue the perishing
Blessed Assurance
So many to choose from.

grannyrebel7 Sat 30-Jan-21 15:35:01

"How Great Thou Art" and "Make me a Channel of your Peace". I love both of these and have missed going to church and singing hymns.
