Daddima the trouble with ‘How great thou art” is that everyone goes off key in the chorus?

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. Sometimes I just read through the words, they are so calming.

Jerusalem (though I hear it isn’t officially a hymn

Oldies for me, every time, though I make an exception for As I kneel Before You. My children have threatened me with How Great Thou Art or Walk With Me, O My God when I die!

"Morning has broken" was sung at our wedding.

We went to a one man concert by Rick Wakeman in St Mary's church in Bury St Edmunds some years ago. He explained that he had played the piano on the original Cat Stevens recording. Rick then sat at a grand piano and played our hymn, beautiful.

Many of those already mentioned but my all time favourite is ‘Morning has broken’. It’s so uplifting.

Ditto to ‘Dear Lord and Father of Mankind’ - always loved that one.

And especially, ‘Eternal Father Strong To Save’ (For Those in Peril On The Sea) - it was my father’s favourite - he spent 2 years on the very perilous North Atlantic convoys during WW2 and it was sung at his funeral.

I’m not at all religious and except for weddings and funerals haven’t been to church in ages, but if I had a nice, cosy old C of E close by, and could be sure of my favourite hymns coming up, I think I could almost be persuaded...

Been my favourite for a time. We had it as the first hymn at our wedding 4 years ago.

I also love “We plough the fields and scatter/ The good seed on the land”, because it reminds me of harvest festivals which I have always loved. It makes me think of Michaelmas daisies and apples, and going back to school in September. (I liked going back to school.)

We are allowed to sing in church but with masks on and it is not the same. Comes over rather muffled. The lead singer at the front doesn’t have to wear one, though and he is a good singer.

I have too many favourites to list here, after years of playing for school assemblies and church services. “The Servant King” and “Here I Am, Lord” are two of many.

I also discovered this recently which is very appropriate for these troubled times.

I love the old hymns and the history of the people who wrote them.

I love many of the above. Particular favourites are How great they art, Shine Jesus Shine and I will Follow Him.

I like most of these hymns but 'Abide with Me' is one which really tugs at my heart.

I find most hymns go too high for me. I don't have a good singing voice anyway (some may say terrible) but the two above have good tunes and I can actually sing them.

Forth in Thy Name O Lord I go...my school hymn and my prayer for the day.
