That isn't all the press would take from it.

However, it's a moot point, because the press aren't interested in the lives of the elderly, unless it is a stick to beat the government with.

Just want to give a different perspective from someone who has been previously banned. ( not from gransnet but from mumsnet )
I was on MN for almost 5 years before I was eventually banned. I was emailed countless times about my ‘posting style’ and how I was ‘rubbing people up the wrong way’ - they tried everything to help me. They suggested I name change and start afresh, they suspended me for a week ( twice ) they spent a lot of time on me I have to say. And I wasn’t a special case ( as in recently bereaved or any other issue ) they just tried everything. Problem I had was I couldn’t stay away from the confrontational threads - usually the political ones, where I’d get into far too many pointless arguments. Posters with opposing views would deliberately try and wind me up & I fell for it every time. I was no angel either so in the end MNHQ had had enough. They actually said they’d tried everything and I was clearly never going to stick to the guidelines so best to part company.
They were right.
This was a long time ago mind you when I was younger & not so able to ‘walk away’ from ridiculous arguments.
I’m on FB, Netmums, Twitter, never been banned from any of them, or even had posts deleted - never had a problem anywhere other than MN.
I just got too involved. Too overly invested.
Too bothered about what random strangers on the internet thought of me.

Marydoll. I have no information that you wouldn't be aware of. It's my opinion based on responses she has given to some posters, that I feel that not everyone will be sorry she's gone.

Maybe when the Daily Mail is trawling for 'news' they might like to take up the cause? Free the Gransnet 3?

I'm reporting this to bring it to your attention. I think you are seriously underestimating the strength of feeling among the membership regarding the draconian measures taken by banning MawBe and having a lifetime final warning hanging over the heads of Charleygirl and Ellenvannin.
In the current climate, where so many elderly people live alone and are isolated from their family and friends, do you not think banning a member could break that person? You are taking away what may be their only form of contact with friends, whether real or virtual, further isolating them during this pandemic. I do not believe you really thought all this through when you implemented these measures and I therefore strongly urge you to consider annodomini's suggestion. This, surely, is 'the spirit of the site' you so often quote.

gt66, you are entitled to your views. However, disliking someone is not grounds for being glad they have been banned.
Do you have information we are unaware of, which may change our opinion?

I’ve read the 8 or so pages on this thread since I last caught up.
It’s positive that MawB is named, along with the two posters involved in this situation.
I’ve reported annodomino’s post. Also emailed gnhq, again.

And accountability shouldn’t be confused with blame.

Not everyone is unhappy that the lady with the thin dog has been banned.

It’s run it’s course, time to move on I think. Anymore comments will probably be counter productive .

Send emails to GNHQ yes, definitely, but I think that it's getting far too personal now.

Yes people can re register under another than name but there are numerous ways to deal with this. MN has enormous amount of experience dealing with that issue. They trace email address etc.

You aren't allowed to say this, as it is 'encouraging posters to break the rules'.

Thank you to all those who have given me a greater insight into GN. Knowing this, I find the 'punishments' very Draconian.

Reading some threads, I can see cause to maybe implement a cool down period for a few (suspension). However, GNHQ don't do this. I really can't imagine or understand what someone has said that would warrant a life time ban or why a thread is deleted with no explanation. I fail to see the logic with the former. GNHQ must know that someone can register again and again under another name.

I so pleased that the person found support and hope she keeps in touch with her friends.

Wonder if this thread will last another day.
