The changing face of Gransnet?

I am a 'lockdown-joiner' to this forum, welcoming the opportunity join in with others who are similarly 'shut inside'.

I have been wondering whether people have found that the site has changed in any way over the last year?

Themes/quantity of posts/membership/patience/tolerance?

Just curious!

Sorry doodle I crossed posts with you ....took a while to type while eating

Lucca Mon 01-Feb-21 14:52:08

Disappointing input from GNHQ, rather a meaningless response.
I’m sure I am not alone I having e mailed GNHQ. Anybody had a reply ?
Will anyone be reinstated ?
Will the threat of last warning be there forever?
Is there any limit on how many times someone who “leaves” can return under a different name ?
Does every report equal automatic post deletion ?

Just a few questions to which it would be nice to have a clear answer

kittylester Mon 01-Feb-21 14:52:02

Millie, I'm not sure anyone is really disagreeing.

Doodle Mon 01-Feb-21 14:50:35

GNHQ you often pop in and make comments on threads. I have asked you at least one direct question on this thread as have others. Let’s have some replies please.

HAZBEEN Mon 01-Feb-21 14:40:37

This is just what I meant by unclear rules and the lack of an appeal! Doodledog could well break the so called rules again and be suspended by not knowing why she infringed "the spirit of Grandsnet" or broke "talk guidlines". We need more clarity.
I and am sure many posters already think hard about what we write because the written word is often construed differently to the spoken word, we are mostly careful to get our point across without upsetting anyone or at least I hope so. If we dont know the rules we cant abide by them that is all I am saying in asking HQ to clarify.

Millie22 Mon 01-Feb-21 14:39:15

I keep popping back to see how things are on this thread and page 14 has now become 20. Nothing is changing other than people still disagreeing a lot about how GNHQ monitor the site.

Callistemon Mon 01-Feb-21 14:28:44

That shows just how arbitrary the decision making is, Doodledog

Doodledog Mon 01-Feb-21 14:26:54

As far as I can tell, my post yesterday is the only one to have been deleted on this thread.

It was not about a poster, it had absolutely nothing to do with Biba, whose posts I hadn't really noticed before today.

I obviously can't repeat what it said, but it is probably safe to say that it made reference to the fact that lifetime bans on somewhere like this are difficult to enforce, and that I wondered whether a banned poster was aware of this. At that point, I didn't even know who she was, so there was no partiality of any description - it was a general comment.

I don't understand how this has broken any of the rules, or why it was deleted. I have had no email or PM, or anything by way of explanation, so I am baffled.

If someone from HQ is reading, I would appreciate an explanation, please, as if I have broken a rule I don't want to do so again without knowing how I have done it.

kittylester Mon 01-Feb-21 14:26:41

It must be quite stressful having that hanging over you charley. It takes away your freedom of speech to an extent.

Are any other posters on a final warning? Does anyone know?

Smileless2012 Mon 01-Feb-21 14:01:52

Yes it is simple MissA. I've been on threads where there have been several warnings from GNHQ that the thread may be deleted if a certain 'style' of posting persists. It has persisted so the thread has been deleted.

You don't have to be a "fragile little blossom" to be deeply affected by bullying and hounding Bogmyrtle, which if you've ever been unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of, you would know.

It has nothing to do with to two or more gathering together and simply sharing a point of view. It's the relentless targeting of one poster on which ever thread they happen to be posting on. In fact last year, it was happening on a thread where the poster being bullied wasn't even posting, but her bullies were.

Charleygirl5 Mon 01-Feb-21 14:00:07

kittylester I feel this is one point that GNHQ should address.

If I am being treated like a child, why have I not been rewarded for good behaviour and perhaps removed from the final warning list after 6 months? As I said before, I did nothing criminal, only retaliated and I was obviously reported.

As another GN member said it is like a sword of Damocles hanging over my head.

NanaandGrampy Mon 01-Feb-21 13:58:10

Woolly .... not wholly !

NanaandGrampy Mon 01-Feb-21 13:57:35

That’s a good point Kitty , parolees eventually earn their release so shouldn’t there be a time stamp on a last warning ? Or is it acceptable to leave that hanging over someone’s head indefinitely ?

As the rules are wholly to say the least it’s difficult to know when you have committed that finally transgression that gets you the boot.

Also to GNHQ you mention not asking after members - this must truly be a new rule as when the long departed “Jinglebellfrocks “was banned there were a number of threads asking for her to be reinstated and I don’t recall them being deleted?

( I’m sorry to mention names but the rule in our house is swearwords in inverted commas don’t count so I’m hoping the same applies here ??)

Callistemon Mon 01-Feb-21 13:54:59

Well, that post hasn't answered any concerns or moved the situation forward one iota, ZadieGransnet.

I hope those who are in charge will be made aware of our concerns and take action.

Thank you.

kittylester Mon 01-Feb-21 13:45:34

I'm concerned about people who are on a final warning! How do they get off that list?

MissAdventure Mon 01-Feb-21 13:31:47

I'm sure people are intelligent enough to take on the fact that they have transgressed what is polite!

If gnhq delete a comment someone has made, and sent a message explaining why, then don't do it again.

It's simple.

Bogmyrtle Mon 01-Feb-21 13:31:05

And if more than one member tries to get it back to the point are they then guilty of “bullying” or just agreeing that they want to get back to the point?
It sounds to me that if two or more are gathered together and share a point of view they risk being accused of “hounding” or “bullying”.
Are we such fragile little blossoms?

Galaxy Mon 01-Feb-21 13:26:28

Threads turn directions hundreds of times. It's the nature of debate.

HAZBEEN Mon 01-Feb-21 13:25:48

Thats just it Bogmyrtle! If a poster has "taken against" another poster which has happened all they seem to need to do is to report that person and they are deleted or even banned. GNHQ do not seem to look at the whole picture or history. Along side the fact that there are no clear rules just "the spirit of Gransnet" how can we avoid breaking the rules? We have no right of reply or appeal which is an infringement on our legal rights!

Nannytopsy Mon 01-Feb-21 13:22:45

Well in that case, perhaps we should report more often. Is turning the direction of a thread then just repeating yourself in the spirit of GN?

Bogmyrtle Mon 01-Feb-21 13:19:21

What I gather from GNHQ is that if no-one ever reports a post they won't know about it and nothing will be done. So there''s a challenge stop reporting and let's see what happens. !!!
So it could be seen as adding an extra dimension or indeed motivation to “reporting” ? Not because a Gran is shocked, scandalised or discombobulated by a post, but if enough people report it, there are more likely to be repercussions.
Or am I missing the point?

BlueBelle Mon 01-Feb-21 13:14:09

I think the major problem is this huge encouragement by HQ to report, report, report
I never consider reporting people if they say something I find hurtful I think I am old enough and hopefully wise enough to speak to the person themself and say ‘that was a hurtful comment’ or something similar, 9 times out of 10 the person will say ‘sorry I didn’t mean it that way’ then I would say ok and that s the end of it If we are not ‘grown up’ enough to handle simple stuff like that then we shouldn’t even be posting

There is certainly room to report to GN if people are overstepping the mark with constant or personal nasty comments to one person anything racist or homophobic or personal

Otherwise please Gransnet let us it out ourselves we are definitely old enough

trisher Mon 01-Feb-21 13:13:16

Mind it's very difficullt to know if something contravenes the guidelines when you're not sure what they are. It means you finish up with people setting their own standards and that means moderation isn't moderation just reaction.

Marydoll Mon 01-Feb-21 13:08:52

Don't mean to sound rude, but that's just a load of woolly, waffle HQ.

Lexisgranny Mon 01-Feb-21 13:04:24

Sorry GNHQ but your post smacks of a politician’s reply, that says a lot but does not answer questions or resolve issues.
