And, we are fairly good at spotting im-posters!! But hq always always err on their side. As in the case of a recent trouble maker.

The life time ban must be removed from the punishment list, for a starter.

I've been on a crime board for years where it got more than " overheated" at times but I never ever got as much as a caution. We were all adults, including a solicitor/ barrister who's also admin.

I too am on a final before a ban, believe it or not.
But I'd certainly and without hesitation lambast the poster who continued to report me so that I could rest easy knowing that at least I'll be banned for something I'm deserving of.

It's disgusting that an elderly lady, living on her own has this hanging over her for the rest of her life , because she was targetted by a particular poster, who in my opinion set out to have her removed from GN.
Draconian on HQ's part, to put it bluntly.
I feel that HQ are unwilling to to look at the whole picture and investigate fully what is going on.

* Any right of appeal?
* Can you still read the posts, if not contribute?
* Can you still PM someone or vice versa?

As a newbie, it is hard to follow all these comings and goings (and seeming disappearances).
It's like signing up for a club when you don't know the rules and regs, and rather worrisome .

That is the nub of it. The rules are not clearly stated, so it all depends on whether a post is reported, who is moderating that day, and what mood they are in. No consistency.

The country is massively divided at the moment- and I imagine it is normal for this to be reflected here on GN- certainly on some threads.

We should be trusted to sort things out for ourselves in a civilised manner.

When I joined Gransnet in 2012 I braved my first 'heated' debate and made a comment to somebody who disagreed with me which was seen by some as a bit harsh. It was suggested that as I was new I maybe didn't realise that it came across as a personal attack.

I immediately apologised, the poster accepted it and we all moved on.

Nowadays there would be fingers on the report button, a deleted post and a telling off from HQ.

It's all about empowerment but they are disempowering themselves by being too keen to wield the cosh - which is an easy option.

We certainly don't respect them like we used to.

I stopped posting briefly as I was told off for hoping a certain poster was okay and would be back soon. It did make me sad and question if I wanted to stay part of GN. However there are lovely people here who have helped me through this unprecedented year with posts and private messages. I'll post but not as much and I'll be much more wary

What is upsetting, if a poster has been banned/suspended, their PM access is blocked and we have no way of contacting them when we know unfair treatment has been meted out to the wrong poster. Or we simply just want to stay in contact with them.

I am on a final warning and this is for life. I feel that to be very unfair because a couple of GNs could conspire and get rid of me saying I am a bully or whatever. It is very easy.

This may be hearsay but I get the impression if one has mental health problems they are treated differently from the like of me who has not admitted to any.

I enjoy GN, especially now because I live on my own, have recently had to put my pet to sleep and have no family. Honestly I am fine!

I’m not as involved as some people are on GN so I don’t always know what’s going on on people’s lives but wholesale deletions are not the way to go. I recently got deleted for using a common nickname for a political personality.

I’m not 100% sure of the owner of the thin dog but if it’s who I think it is, then why on earth have they been banned?

Recently a thread was started with many who know her, simply enquired if things were ok as we noticed she hadn’t posted for a while....Not allowed now !

Turned out this friend hadn’t been too well and welcomed our concerns and actually stated replying to us on a thread was so much easier for her, as she was recovering, as opposed to the many PMs she had to reply to, to thank us all for our messages of support. The thread was deleted before our friend could convey her message, in one post! This is what your new ruling is achieving HQ.

GNHQ need to fully explain to posters who have been deleted why they have done so. Saying its not in the spirit of Gransnet or breaks talk guidelines is not enough if they dont publish a full list of rules. On the whole we are a caring lot and when one of our number has problems are goes missing we are going to be concerned so we ask on here as not many of us have exchanged personal contact details. Bullying is often used as a reason but how can calling out a obvious bully who is targeting another poster been seen as bullying? This has happened on more than one occasion fairly recently.
I also think GNHQ need to say fully why a thread or post is deleted on the site so we can be aware as the post/thread is usually deleted before some have a chance to see it.
The banning/suspension of long term posters without an explanation is getting beyond a joke. Are we 6 years old getting sent to the norty step? We should also have the right of reply/appeal when anything like this happens.

Kalu I too have been accused of bullying in an email from HQ, Apparently I was reported by a very long standing poster, really for having an opinion that didn’t conform . Despite being a member for a considerable time I have never been a regular contributor ( is that the right word) I now feel unable to comment much at all.???

When I first read that we couldn't mention missing Gransnetters, I wondered at the time if it was a less experienced moderator. Sometimes I looked at action taken and think the moderator must be about 15 years old.
Of course, HQ are never wrong, so they can't back down.

If I am wrong Galaxy and proved to be so, I readily hold my hands up when reasonably explain why. I am not part of the ‘always right’ brigade. To be told by HQ my behaviour is that of a bully, end of, is completely unacceptable in my book. Not something I could lightheartedly just lie down and take on the chin.
