Sir Tom is in hospital with covid. I hope he will recover, he’s been an inspiration to so many.

At least he had a very varied and interesting last year, meeting all kinds of people and visiting places.A lovely kind man who has had a long life and did a lot of good recently.I hope he recovers and lives to see Covid dwindle away in the world.

Capt Sir Tom was a huge part of the first lockdown when we were all imbued with a bit of wartime spirit and hope.

I have found this lockdown a lot more bleak.

Such an inspirational, true gentleman.
Someone to whom I identify with my own Grandparents. I am deeply saddened to hear, following pneumonia, he is now suffering even more, having contracted covid. ?

So glad he got knighted last year and recognised for all he did. Chances are he has had the vaccine so do so hope and pray he pulls round.

Apparently he hasn't been vaccinated because he was already ill with Pneumonia and being treated for that, according to Sky News on my phone.

That’s so sad.Such a wonderful man.
Praying he recovers?

This is awful news. If it was a film script, even after the year we’ve all had, it would seem far-fetched.
Wishing him well with all my heart.

Captain Tom became a national hero and raised more than £33 million for NHS charities during the height of the first coronavirus wave in the spring when he set himself a walking challenge.

He had originally set out to raise £1,000 by talking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday on April 30.

But his sterling efforts inspired a lock-downed nation looking for good news among the increasingly bleak headlines, and donations and well-wishes soon flooded in.

His efforts saw him knighted by the Queen in July and he was singled out for praise by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who said the centenarian had “provided us all with a beacon of light through the fog of coronavirus”.

Captain Tom was made a Knight by the Queen in the sun-soaked gardens of Windsor Castle in July.“I remember saying, ‘I hope the Queen is gentle with this sword!’” he tells GQ in the accompanying article where Captain Tom is seeing modeling a swanky designer suit - an experience he relished.

I cried too LauraNorder.

He is a gentleman of the highest order who lifted our spirits in the darkest of days.

He is 100 years old.
Born in Keighley, Yorkshire.

I think I just read that he hadn't had the vaccine because he had been suffering from pneumonia. I think it also said he had only just been taken to hospital. I'll try to find the article.
