Sir Tom is in hospital with covid. I hope he will recover, he’s been an inspiration to so many.

So sorry to hear the very sad news. Sir Tom was one of a kind, a true gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with his loving family. RIP Sir Tom

Moggie I think it’s been shown that he did not catch covid in Barbados.

Apparently he had been suffering from prostate and skin cancer for the last 5 years and was on medication as he refused invasive treatment. He also had a fall and broke his hip. He was so grateful to the NHS he wanted to give back and did so in bucketloads. His last year was a good one. RIP

I can only repeat what others have written:

RIP Captain Tom Moore
A life well lived.

What a fitting tribute to a lovely man.

RIP Captain Tom.
A life well lived.

I know he was knighted and it was a real honour well deserved but I too like to remember him as ‘Captain Tom’ Pittcity. Maybe because that’s ‘who he was’ when we were all frightened and needed hope.

‘Tomorrow Will Be a Good Day’. x

RIP Captain.

Fair enough. . I just kept getting the feeling I was being manipulated. A distraction if you will to stop me looking at what was really happening.

I will pray for him regardless of his holiday. I don't want him to die gasping for breath because of covid, when his time comes I hope he can go to sleep peacefully.
A prayer for Sir Tom does not mean that we can't pray for young and ill people too.
Yes, he was zoomed in to the spotlight by the media but he seemed to me to be a genuinely decent man who did a good deed.

If more ‘old guys’ (myself included) had raised £32 million pounds then I’d agree with WW010 but they didn’t .
He did.
Manufactured hero or not, he put the effort in.
So well done Sir Tom , he was there when we needed someone to cheer on and the money he raised has been put to good use.

I bet the people that bought the film rights to his life story aren’t happy about this.

I’m going to make myself very unpopular here. To me, he was an old guy who decided to walk round the large garden if his care home to keep fit. His family put it on fb because they were proud of him. The media and government got hold of it and flew with it. It was never his intention to raise so much. This all happened TO him. I’m sure he’s a nice man and I’m sure he did his bit in the War as many thousands of others did - but it doesn’t make him a saint. I’m sorry he’s ill. I hope he gets well or if not doesn’t suffer - as I would hope for anyone else. The Barbados trip was paid for by British Airways for him and his family - good publicity for them but weren’t we supposed to be staying home??? How come they were exempt?? I’d have liked to go away for Christmas but was told not possible. Basically he’s a manufactured ‘hero’. So not one then. (Now have tin hat on) ?‍♀️
