So very sad to hear this.

A wonderful man who left a wonderful legacy. Not only in terms of all the funds that he raised, but also putting paid to the lie that 'old people have no use'.

RIP Captain Tom.

I've just read his obit in the Guardian. He led an interesting and varied life. At one time he was an instructor at Bovington Camp in Dorset and I remember in the fifties some pupils from our school went to a country dancing festival at the camp. I can even remember what I wore - circular skirt in royal blue satin with red rick rack around the hem.

Back to the main topic - he was an inspiration to us all and I hope that he wasn't in pain in his last few hours. His family will have some wonderful memories.
