Hi Joanneclare as I read your post I thought of my friend who now has an Aspergers diagnosis.
There are resources to access but sometimes she finds it hard to do so.
I hope you feel able to reach out maybe with the aid of a safe friend.

Here is a good start. Hope life starts becoming better for you.
So much research has happened in recent years!

A warm welcome from me Joanneclare. I hope that having been given this diagnosis will be a positive. Sometimes even when there's no 'quick fix' just knowing what's the cause of the difficulties we face is a comfort.

Just being able to talk can be really helpful and there'll always be someone here to 'listen' and respond flowers.

Welcome Joanneclare. I hope you feel a bit better having been diagnosed and you can get the help you need.

Joanneclare. I responded to your post and PM out of professional conscience but I can't get more involved as I'm currently having a long hard think about whether I want to remain a member of GN. I think it's my long term work with adults with AS that has given me a heightened appreciation of fairness and recent decisions taken by GNHQ have smacked of unfairness.
I wish you the best of luck with your diagnosis which I'm sure will help you to understand why life with other people has been so difficult.

My doctoral thesis was on women with Asperger Syndrome. Our service found so many of these people who had been completely overlooked due to the assumption that AS only affected males.

I've recently tested as very high on autistic spectrum. Diagnosis confirms a lot of the difficulties I've had in life and wish I'd known a lot earlier.

Joanneclare

Hello. My name is Joanne. I’ve struggled my whole life so far with various mental health problems: OCD, anxiety & depression. Although I cope, I have been in & out of secondary services for years. I have never reached their goal of “recovery” (well if my diagnosis is confirmed, I won’t will I?) My lightbulb moment of realisation has only just happened & I’m exhausted from all the research I’ve done. Yours is the first forum I have joined for some support. I’m 55 years old!!!!
Thank you for taking the time to read my introduction. ?

Asperger’s

Joan, I sympathise with you, having suffered with depression for over 40 years. I came to realise this was my lot and with help of anti depressants and my Drs help and opening up to my family I am reasonably content. I haven't got any magical words for you but hopefully somebody else who has medical knowledge may help and have some wise words for you . Good luck
