What do you think of Princess Anne’s sitting room at Gatcombe Are you surprised?

Jaxjacky Mon 08-Feb-21 08:47:31

Far too dark and cluttered for me, but each to their own.

I shouldn't have been surprised, but what took me aback was the numbered examination of every item in the room by the Daily Mail.

Blinko Mon 08-Feb-21 08:12:06

Looks normal to me.

I liked seeing her sitting so close to her husband. They obviously have a good relationship and enjoy doing things together. They share a hobby of visiting lighthouses on their boat I read somewhere.

Imagine the uproar from the Anti brigade if everything had been brand spanking new, bling, hi tech, etc a la Grand Designs!

I agree that Princess Anne couldn’t give two hoots on what her nearest and dearest think let alone us!

Princess Anne is more normal. I was at a horse trials some years ago and saw her in the back of her horse box washing up wearing her yellow marigolds. Her living room looked very warm and inviting to me, somewhere you wouldn’t be frightened to sit down in.

To be honest, it doesn’t even look cosy or comfortable, more towards squalid.

You have a strange idea of what ‘squalid’ looks like!

I suspect that particular room is the tv room, or den. I can imagine there is a rather smart drawing room elsewhere.

What an awful looking room. Reminds me of my great grandmother’s house. To be honest it doesn’t even look cosy or comfortable, more towards squalid.

Not too surprising at all, she never struck me as a trendsetter!

What would really have shocked me, would have been minimalist grey/white/black, with LIVE, LAUGH, LOVE on the wall! I’d prefer hers any day.

I think Anne is Anne. The only royal I have any modicum of respect for. She doesn't get a flying F what any of us think. Good for her.

Sara1954 Mon 08-Feb-21 06:40:41

A little surprised maybe, but looks comfortable and lived in, so if that’s how she likes it, good for her

BlueBelle Mon 08-Feb-21 06:37:00

Very very old fashioned and cluttered but why not if she likes it like that... not for me makes mine look beautifully modern and tidy but at least she’s true to herself
If she comfy who cares

Buffybee Mon 08-Feb-21 01:06:58

It’s a bit old fashioned and slightly cluttered but I can’t see anything really wrong with it.
Shes not a youngster and it looks cozy and suits her, she is a person who doesn’t give a damn what other people think anyway.

its more old fashioned than my granny's was and shes been dead for 40 years ,hideous

My first thought was ‘granny flat’. It’s so homely. I do like Princess Anne and Zara who seems very down to earth.

Not surprised at all. Probably somewhere she can just relax and feel comfortable in.

Kalu Mon 08-Feb-21 00:39:17

No surprise. A horse lover lives here but she would be criticised if it was all tickety-boo too. ?

Rosie51 Mon 08-Feb-21 00:24:00

Thanks for the link Ailsa43 That room is far too cluttered for my tastes but looks quite normal. I always remember her very honest quote "one does not have to like children to want to give them a decent start". l admire her for not giving a damn what the public think of her, and she declined titles for her children who seem very "normal"

moggie57 Mon 08-Feb-21 00:12:30

Looks a bit like mine

Nana3 Mon 08-Feb-21 00:10:10

Looks a bit like they know no-one is coming to visit so not bothered to tidy up. A bit like a lot of us I'm thinking, could be wrong. Wonder what they think now we've all had a nosey.
Or maybe this is after they've tidied up grin

She’s just an old fashioned girl with an old fashioned sitting room. I have a 1970s build, so it wouldn’t suit my house. She is a lovely homely person. I wonder what her other sitting rooms look like .....

Is there a link to her sitting room?
