The life and music of Eric Clapton.

Ooh yes - Steinbeck. A couple of years ago we did a Steinbeck tour - Salinas, Monterey, and all round there. Before that we did a bit of a Robert Louis Stevenson pilgrimage - area near Sacramento where he went, as described in his book "Silverado".

My specialist subject would be Germany at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

I think it must be Modern Architecture, 60s-present day.
And then Steinbeck (as long as it's restricted to Grapes of Wrathgrin)

1(b) smile grin

Low: Quick non cook puddings
Medium: Traditional cooked puddings
High: Retro complicated desserts

Taste questions only please.

Forgot to add, I'd say Steinbeck is highbrow although they are very easy to read.

nadateturbe Wed 10-Feb-21 15:18:36

Low: Neighbours.

Middle: Music of Leonard Cohen

High: Caravaggio

Some entertaining and interesting answers.

Riverwalk Wed 10-Feb-21 15:06:24

The works of John Steinbeck.

(Lots of great answers smile)
Never heard of Sorolla blush... off to Google

cavewoman Wed 10-Feb-21 14:38:47

The life and times of Oscar Wilde or possibly the band Blondie with Debbie Harry.

gulligranny Wed 10-Feb-21 14:31:35

Great topic!

Low: Married At First Sight Australia, 2019 series

Middle: I Capture The Castle by Dodie Smith

High: The Life and Works of Joachin Sorolla

I could probably also do The Changes In Television Lighting 1962-1998 , a subject much talked about by my DH - who was a TV lighting director ....

Kate1949 Wed 10-Feb-21 14:29:17

Saying that, in our local pub quiz whenever a Beatles question came up the Quizmaster would say 'Here's one for Kate' and I often got it wrong! blush Not as knowledgeable as I think I am.

Kate1949 Wed 10-Feb-21 14:26:08

The Beatles.

BigBertha1 Wed 10-Feb-21 14:25:13

we were discussing this the other day when I said I had seen all the James Bond films so many times I could answer questions on Mastermind. I was being ironic.

However if I were choose something I know a bit about but could cram for it would be the life of Charles the Second and for my semi final(!) it would be Rachmaninov.

ginny Wed 10-Feb-21 14:23:33

The life and times of me.

Mollygo Wed 10-Feb-21 14:20:59

The evolution of Godzilla in films since 1954.
My DGS lectured me on this endlessly until he started investigating the development and use of tanks in warfare since. . .
The life and works of Émile Zola -I know quite a lot, but I’d need to do some serious cramming!

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 10-Feb-21 14:11:03

The Life and Times of Queen Victoria

Witzend Wed 10-Feb-21 14:05:57

Dds and I often said in the past that if we were ever on Mastermind, our Special Subject would be Who Said What To Whom And When, in the BBC Pride and Prejudice series!
(Not that we watched it a million times or anything.....)

Other than that, Anthony Trollope’s Palliser series, and maybe the Barchester novels, too.

BBbevan Wed 10-Feb-21 13:40:46

Art history

Egyptian archaeology.

FannyCornforth Wed 10-Feb-21 11:31:49

...on Mastermind?

I suppose that you could:
a) choose a topic that you already know inside out, or
b) choose something that you'd really enjoy learning about, and cram for it.

And would you go Low, Middle or High Brow?
For me, off the top of my head:

Low - Celebrity Big Brother
Middle - the life and works of Sue Townsend
High - Joshua Reynolds and the establishment of The Royal Academy.

Anyway, enough about me; what would you choose? smile
