Do you like where you live

I have not liked where I live for a while but being in lockdown has made me realise that I like it even less . Does anyone else feel like this .

Blue5 maybe you could move nearer your family? I love living in Harrogate, most of the neighbours are very nice, but can't help feeling the steep drive to our house is not suitable any more for me. I'm hoping my breathing and walking will improve because we are only 0.5 mile from the actual town, unfortunately a hilly walk.

Best place to live varies according to different surveys - or do you move around a lot, MissChateline!

I have no idea, I guess I was referring to surveys in the guardian, but I don’t really take much notice of these things. However being an Air Force brat I have moved around a great deal in my life, I can remember 16 primary schools around the country and abroad before 2 boarding schools. I love moving and always get a two year desire to move like I did as a child with my dads posting to different places. Now I scratch the itch by moving furniture around and a total house reorganisation every couple of years. My wife has always lived in a different country to me, initially in Geneva and now in the Canary Islands so I’m well used to being somewhat itinerant.

I loved our home where we used to live, but over the years the area changed and when the DC had all left it was a bit too big for us. So we looked around for somewhere which had what we were looking for in a neighbourhood and downsized. So, yes, although I miss the memories of what our previous home was, it's not the same place now, and I love our new home.

If, Blue5 you don't love where you live, perhaps it's time to look around for somewhere you will love. A good lockdown occupation, making lists of pros and cons and wandering through Rightmove!

I love where we live too, not too far from two daughters and four grandchildren, lovely neighbours, plenty to do in our little market town but 2 minutes’ walk from open countryside.
But, like Callistemon and Sara, I wish the sea was a bit closer. We have some wonderful river walks but it’s not quite the same.

I love where I live. Tried living in a big city for a while, but hated it.
Now we’re on the edge of a small town -it’s overrun with students, but that’s not really a disadvantage as it keeps the buses regular and the prices low.
Lovely neighbours, local shops-expensive but within walking distance and gardens to admire on walks until we can travel further.

I like our home, but no, I don’t like where I live, the plan was that after DH retired we would go home the small Market town in Hampshire where I was born and lived until we moved to Oxfordshire.
Until lockdown we would go down every month for a couple of days, but we haven’t been there for nearly a year and I do miss it.

I’m with you there, I would love to live by the sea, we’ve not too far away, and I’ve really missed it during lockdown

I love where I live. A quirky old building, lovely neighbours, beautiful views in all directions - couldn't ask for any more

Very happy with my house now that I've redecorated it from top to bottom. Location is good in that I have a lovely river nearby. Neighbours are friendly, caring but unintrusive. What more can a girl ask?!

I like my house, I like the neighbourhood, we have good neighbours but I wish it was a bit nearer the sea.
Oh, and it's what one friend termed lumpy here - fine when you're young and fit, not so good later on in life.

I love where we live. On the edge of one of the largest cities in England, we are at the top of a lovely valley with farm and woodland so lots of nice walks from the door - except it’s a sea of mud and ice at the moment. A large country park also within walking distance. Couldn’t have nicer neighbours - a mix of our age and younger folk with children. Good transport links and local shopping.

I love where I live ,been within a mile of this house since I was 12 and have never wanted to live anywhere else.I'm 2 miles from Loch Lomond and 18 from Glasgow city centre, best of both worlds .

OK so who is googling- best place to live in Britain??
I’m lucky, I like my house and my neighbours and the area so I won’t be bothering you MissChataline.

I am with Miss Chateline - I love where I live and I like to remain anonymous. I know we don't live in the same place because we NEVER win any 'desirable location' awards! And indeed, if we are away and people ask where I live, they have difficulty placing it!
But we have fantastic local food and drink, a literary festival and a music festival (which I help with). These are quite low key, and our knowledgeable committees ensure we punch above our weight, getting interesting and excellent acts, whilst keeping prices down. It is not a wealthy area, and folk expect their money's worth.
It is a rural area, and we are not near major supermarkets or shopping centres. Strong community. We are fortunate.

Sounds absolutely perfect, where are you?
Or dare you not say? In case we all want to come?

I would say but I sort of would like my location to remain reasonably anonymous.......mainly because I regularly fail to conform with the “I haven’t stuck my nose out of the house since last March ” brigade mainly by enjoying the solitude of walking the hills several times a day and I received some really vile responses including things like “I’m glad I don’t live near you and how dare you put others at risk by taking totally isolated walks.
So as much as I would love to share my lovely location and I am usually happy to promote the town I think on this forum I shall remain incognito!!

Love it. Large city but on the edge so very near wonderful countryside. Best of all worlds.

Blue5 Sat 13-Feb-21 16:29:13

I live near all my family so reluctant to move too far away but would love to live near some friendlier people

I am content with my community! We moved from suburban London to commuter belt Surrey 10 years ago. We live in a village now a blended part of the local small town, and I have made a great bunch of good friends since moving here. We are near our DDs & DGCs so that is a big bonus and, in non Covid times, can access a quick route into London or to the local countryside or the south coast. We have good local shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries, local cinema, clubs, library etc etc. It is more of a white British mono-culture than I am used to which is its downside.

MissChateline Sat 13-Feb-21 16:18:58

I love the small market town where I live. Good rail and road connections to the city about an hour away but set in a lovely wooded valley surrounded by hills and moorland. The town regularly wins the best place to live in England award. A great selection of independent shops, local produce and deli and the luxury of an independent cinema. There’s lots going on with festivals and music as well as clubs and societies.
Having sung the towns praises I can’t wait to get away as soon as possible for a holiday!

Sara1954 Sat 13-Feb-21 16:18:37

I love my house, but I’d like to pick it up and move it.
We moved here to be about midway between work and schools, but it’s a village with a very busy road going straight through it, I’m used to the noise, but walking down the street with enormous lorries wizzing past is horrible when we moved here, there were two pubs, a bakery, a shop, a hairdresser, and a post office, now we have just the shop, and that’s basically an off license which sells enormous amounts of crisps and chocolate.
I would live to live in a small town, but I would miss my lovely home.

I hate where I live; the area, the dratted house itself, the stoney, hard clay garden; I hate everything about it. But.. I have lovely neighbours who I've grown very fond of and I'm a 5 minute walk from my DS and family and so see them a lot. As soon a practicable, I'm leaving.
