Who's made you laugh?

When doing the thread about gigs, I got to thinking of all the comedians I've seen live. Not many but these are them
:
Rob Brydon (heard nearly all the material before on TV shows)
Jasper Carrott
French and Saunders
Mark Watson
Jack Whitehall
Sarah Millican
Miranda Hart
But the one that outshines them all was Victoria Wood. Saw her twice and sadly miss her.

One I would love to see is Billy Connolly and a stage performance of The Goons.

Who've you seen or would love/loved to have seen?

Haven't seen many live but Bill Bailey and Jo Brand were excellent.
I used to show new students the Dave Allen "Telling the time" sketch during induction week and reassure them our maths lessons would be much clearer (although probably not as much fun). I found it incredibly funny, even after watching it upteen times.

Brian Conley, absolutely brilliant wish he was on TV more

Just noticed Gwenisgreat1 mentioned Francie and Josie too. I saw them for the first time at the King's Theatre in Edinburgh. I was about 8 years old and my mum and dad had written to them telling them it was my birthday. They called out my name from the stage and sang "Jeannie McCall" for me. I almost fainted!

Kevin Bridges was definitely one of the funniest I've seen. Also John Bishop and Micky Flanagan. But the gig I saw years ago that really had me in stitches was Francie and Josie alias Jack Milroy and Rikki Fulton. A very Scottish pair of comedians but hilarious. Wonder if anyone else remembers them.

Another vote for Michael McIntyre here . His gentle ramblings about children & what they say & how they behave always make me laugh.

Dave Allen, Kevin Bridges, Lee Mack, Rob Brydon, John Bishop. No women, apart from Victoria Wood. Find it difficult to listen to Sarah Millican.

Shandy3 Thu 18-Feb-21 15:31:05

Ooo and I've seen peter Kay too!

Shandy3 Thu 18-Feb-21 15:29:10

ALL MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD smile

Also seen Miranda Hart, who did not make me laugh at all!

Victoria Wood, best female stand up ever sadly missed. Saw Bob Monkhouse, Ken Dodd and one nobody's mentioned, Charlie Williams, back in the late 60s/early 70s. All absolutely hilarious. Love Peter Kay, Michael McIntyre and Rhod Gilbert.
Sarah Millican was funny on TV when she first came on the scene but is disgusting now (or maybe she always was, live, and it's only come home to me lately since YouTube carry so many of her live shows. The last time I watched her she made an allusion to a teenage boy which, had the genders been reversed and she'd been a male comedian talking about a teenage girl, would've shut the show down I'm sure. It should have done anyway, odious woman.

HannahLoisLuke Thu 18-Feb-21 14:44:18

Jasper Carrot, the no bleeding Bovril sketch
Jason Manford, talking about slimming
Lee Evans, everything
Ben Elton, Gotta get a double seat ( on the train)
Victoria Woods song about students living on Mr Kipling cakes and Ready Brek.
Don’t particularly like Billy Connolly, he relies too much on the F word to pad it out. He’d be a lot funnier without all the swearing.
John Bishop.

Alioop Thu 18-Feb-21 13:51:03

Lee Mac, although have never seen him live, but I'd really love to. Michael McIntyre and John Bishop are funny guys, I cringed at some of Jimmy Carr's jokes when I went to see him. Always remember my wee mum giving off about Mrs.Browns Boys saying that 'woman' has a dreadful mouth, needs it washed out lol

Luc21ky Thu 18-Feb-21 13:50:34

Ah ken Dodd he was the best comedian.

Luc21ky Thu 18-Feb-21 13:48:17

Ah ken Dodd he was the best comedian .

HurdyGurdy Thu 18-Feb-21 13:31:18

Billy Connolly
Jasper Carrott - both in his "heyday" and also more recently with Bev Bevan of ELO
Sarah Millican (three times - our fourth has just been rescheduled to next year sad )
Richard Digance (does he count as a comedian, or just a folk singer)
Joe Pasquale (bored me to tears)
Were booked to see Peter Kay the year before last, but he cancelled all future performances
Jon Richardson

I would love to see
Peter Kay
Michael McIntyre

and I deeply regret never getting to see the divine Victoria Wood

EmilyHarburn Thu 18-Feb-21 13:30:26

I miss victoria Wood. I used to love Dave Allan, and enjoyed Morecambe and Wise. Sarah Millican is a disaster. She never stopped talking about the female private parts. Nothing she said was a joke. Jasper Carrot is OK,

Sweetpea60 Thu 18-Feb-21 13:18:33

My favourite comedians are Lee Evan's I only have to look at him and he makes me laugh , Billy Connolly, Jethro and the late great Mike Reid.

schnackie Thu 18-Feb-21 13:10:46

Peter Kay! He has pretty much dropped off the radar for the past couple of years - I haven't heard why, but really miss him1 I hope he is ok.

annodomini Thu 18-Feb-21 13:10:29

I have a cd of Tom Lehrer's songs. I love the deadpan delivery of sometimes outrageous ideas, as well as the periodic table!

Grandma70s Thu 18-Feb-21 13:07:17

I’ve hardly seen any live, only Bob Monkhouse, who was very funny, and a very long time ago the Danish Victor Borge, whose humour was mostly music-based. I was only in my teens at the time, and laughed till I was nearly sick.

I never saw Ken Dodd, but I wish I had. People who saw him said you had to be prepared for a long evening - he often went on until the small hours - but it was worth it. A true original. He was very keen on classical music and could often be seen at Philharmonic concerts in Liverpool.

Victoria Wood tops my list, so sad she died so young. Jasper Carrott is great - saw him a couple of times and loved his curry sketch. Had a tape (remember those!?) of him riffing on his visit to Hong Kong - we were living there at the time and he caught it exactly but friends just didn't get it! Saw Billy Connolly out in HK a couple of times too - very good (but you had to ignore the language!)

I like Michael McIntyre's stand up but not his TV show, liked Dawn French in The Vicar of Dibley but not a fan of her and Jennifer Saunders's stand up and I don't like Miranda Hart I'm afraid. I think I'd like to see John Bishop though

handbaghoarder Thu 18-Feb-21 12:52:27

Jasper Carrott. Had old cassette tapes of his act in the car years ago. Some absolute classics! “Only one way to get rid of a mole.....”. Have seen him twice recently touring with Bev Bevan and others doing both comedy and 60s music. Just as funny now.
Stewart Francis. Love his puns and one liners but exhausting as hes so “quick” and you dont want to miss anything. Love him. Laughed all the way home.
The Fast Show with Paul Whitehouse and co, Harry Enfield and chums. Saw them at Hammersmith a few years ago. And Catherine Tate. ( on TV)
A recent convert to James Acaster. Again you need to concentrate to keep up with him. Would love to see him live.
Oh yeah. Rhod Gilbert. His rants are so funny. The electric toothbrush sketch. And the last mince pie. Again would love to see him live.
Great post. Might have couple of hours later catching up with some of these.

Victoria wood was hilarious. Peter Kay was too.

I don't find Peter Kay all that funny, most of my friends when I was still working thought I was mad but I also can't stand Fools and Horses, estuary English is cringeful.

EMMF1948 Thu 18-Feb-21 12:49:33

We saw Victoria Wood early in her career, we drove across the M62, then down to Felixstowe and we were still laughing. Such a writing talent, especially Dinnerladies, anyone who's worked in a largely female environment,

Harris27 Thu 18-Feb-21 12:38:09
