Today I had a phone call from Windows Support. Yeah right
The lady told me that my computer was sending Windows messages containing error messages and she wanted to help me to sort it out.
So acting my role I asked what did I need to do to sort it out then quietly (stage whisper) told DH to trace the call. She asked if I was OK and I said I was just clearing my throat. Then she told me to press ctrl and r. I reckoned that I couldn't find ctrl so she spent ages trying to explain where it was. It took me ages to find it as I mixed up left and right and had to find my glasses (I wear them all the time
). Having found ctrl I couldn't remember which other letter to press. She reminded me that it was r. Of course I couldn't find it. By now the call had gone on for at least 5 minutes as all my looking/errors had been interspersed with my panicking conversation about whether my laptop would stop working/had a virus. Eventually DH said 'Got it' and she panicked. She demanded to know if I was a hacker and I told her that I wasn't a hacker but I was her worst nightmare as we, the NRA now had the real number where she was calling from and her location. She slammed the phone down and we happily imagined the panic taking place wherever she was.
NRA were the first letters that came to mind. DH pointed out it was the American gun people. So hopefully the scammer thought some nutters with guns were on their way
