Good Morning Everyone,
Its still dark , here in Brackley this morning, but remains and windy this morning .
Still awaiting confirmation as to my parsley box chilled meat pack , hopping to check emails later .
A small shop today ,maybe before I watch the cycling on TV , which is live , mind you looks like most TV channels are scrapping the barrel as regards to what do we show as no new programmes being made .
Take Care,
Mick

Hello everyone from sunny places to grey and blustery ones.
Cornwall is back to its grey wet look this morning. I'm hoping it will blow away so I can get a morning walk with Mya. She's doing great but not quite got the hang of waiting for me in the morning ti open the door !
Forgot to take the recycling up to the collection point yesterday. So a quick dash up there with it. We (8 houses) are all spread out on the lane so to help the refuse collectors we have two places to leave all the rubbish and they can turn with the lorry.

Mick I can recommend the new series of Unforgotten on ITV. They recorded it last year. Hope the delivery arrives.
Bella. Enjoy the walk. MrM wagged his finger at me yesterday as I said I was thinking of driving to one of my fav beaches with Mya. It's 30 min drive. Police have really clamped down on travel.
Dwmxwg. Hope you get your new date for the holiday. We're waiting here too but suspect we will have to move it to end of April 2022. Off to Isles of Scilly.
Ashcombe Serious acting smile
Gagga Glad your DD and others over covid thanks
S&C grin Dumpy Bag ? What a busy delivery night. Hope you get some zzzzzz this afternoon
Sar53. What a beautiful height. Same as me when I was 12. I love being tall but still get angry when people have to comment about it or mock my height.
Urm. Please tell me what Soap Dish is confused I see it mentioned a lot
Harrigran. My peak time for birthdays is Sept to Jan. Last batch of cards (32) were from ZAZZLE when they had an offer on. I can recommend them.
Marydoll Glad to hear the police are out and about. I've put off driving 30 mins for a beach walk with Mya. Well done with the bank - you told him Hope you're feeling better.

Off to the compost bin now. I do hope it's getting a little less boggy down there and I can do the trek without bringing a huge amount of mud back with me.

Hope the sun shines on everyone today. If not outside then in your hearts.

grandMattie Wed 24-Feb-21 10:30:32

Sar53, 5'8" - goodness! I hope she doesn't end up like me at 5'10" tall but am now "the short, fat one" of the family - they are gigantic! Has advantages though, as I can be envelopped in hugs and feel tiney and delicate...

Another good morning from S Lanarkshire. Don’t feel any real change in mood after our ‘road map’, any difference still feels far away, although in fairness that’s understandable. I think the press whip up expectations that perhaps politicians feel the need to live up to and whatever you feel about our dear leader, she clearly doesn’t!
Plan for today is a rummage through the freezer and plan meals to use everything up. I’ve found recently that meals have become very ad hoc affairs so time to give myself a shake.
?Bellasnana and good wishes to everyone, hope all is well with Kalu x

Good morning from a blustery but milder South Yorkshire. The sun is even trying to break through ?.

Wishing you luck with the Yorkshire puddings, Elizabeth1. My advice (and sorry if I’m teaching you how to suck eggs), is to make sure the fat in the Yorkshire pudding tin is smoking hot before you add the batter so that it sizzles when you pour it in. I find lard to be the best fat to use, but general cooking oil should be fine too. Then, as you say, leave the door of the very hot oven closed whilst they are cooking. They should puff up beautifully, but I have to say, it can be hit and miss.

No particular plans for today, though the windows could do with a clean, so think I’ll get on with that.

Take care everyone.

Good morning everyone from a bright and windy Northampton. Hope to get out in the garden for an hour or so this afternoon.

Well I tried to post three times yesterday and eventually gave up. Fingers crossed for today!

Had a good long walk (40 minutes each way) to the surgery yesterday for a blood test - had the results this morning, all normal.I

With hopes of restrictions being lifted by mid June, DS has booked a holiday cottage in north Wales in July for the whole family, which sounds lovely. It will be wonderful to be all together again. I have already got the cats booked into the cattery!

Mended DS's coat yesterday which he managed to tear while out walking the dog. Then must wrap his birthday present and will leave everything in the front porch for him to collect. A sad time; DS's birthday is Friday, and DH died the next day three years ago. Lots of happy memories though.

Will now go back and read the thread. Take care and stay safe everyone.

Good Morning all from another dreary grey day in Harrogate as we await the wet stuff falling from the clouds! Lost my first post, now can't remember what I have read!! Doing well.
Sheep my late FIL ran a farm near Scarborough, he had names for all his cows, so you are not alone with your friends. Agree you should have a nap, 'cause you don't know what tonight will bring.
Lovely poem Susan56 says it all about how we are just now.
Marydoll take care. Last year I culled my wardrobe and DH's, too, took my excess to the charity shop!! DH putt his excess back in his overfilled wardrobe!!

Take care folks, keep well!!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Feb-21 10:58:25

Day not going to plan.........GS (6 yr old) had a meltdown with his Mum over homeschooling, they are now here, GrandpaGravy is supervising schooling, the baby (1yr old) is asleep on my lap. Bed changed, washing machine on, unfortunately I am still in my dressing gown and not yet showered!!!

Good morning, Mick and All from the Cumbrian coast. It's another wet day but not dark and windy like yesterday. I'm hoping it doesn't get worse as I have a late afternoon appointment with the doctor. A face to face one! I detest telephone ones thinking that body language is as important as what is said. I imagine the docs don't like it either.
Otherwise, a day of resting up as I'm a bit wobbly. Or is that an excuse to finish my detective novel?!
A good day to everyone, especially if you're feeling low.

Taichinan Wed 24-Feb-21 11:16:05

Good morning from the Angus coast. I was just coming to the end of one of my lengthy posts when the buzz of a WhatsApp came through. It was DD announcing that her job - a work-from-home contract for a charity which was renewed annually - has been made permanent!! I was so excited for her that I jumped straight to WhatsApp without posting. History!
I really do have to get moving now (still in my jimjams) so I shall make a quick exit.
Congratulations to the Birthday people, and to sheep and her multiple births. A sympathetic hug to Bella - I know so well how you are feeling. I hope the walk, basking in sea air and lovely memories, is soothing and restorative.
Keeping georgesgran and her DH in my thoughts, and also all those unwell through this time. And wishing EV, the Waffle Queen, would pop back in with one of her lovely posts. Have the best day everyone. ????

Good morning from.central scotland. Not as wet as yesterday but still windy. Going to do an online shop and order a couple of books from either waterstones or amazon, whichever is cheaper. Then I might make a microwave dumpling. Only 8 minutes to cook compare to 4 or 5 hours steaming. Have a good day everyone

Marydoll Wed 24-Feb-21 13:28:07

Polomint, would you be willing to share your recipe?

Auntieflo Wed 24-Feb-21 14:51:56

Well, the car got taken to the garage. Emails not answered because all the sales staff have been furloughed. Answer to our problem of the stop/start light not working, was that the battery was below the % necessary. So we took it for a long run, which turned out longer, as there were diversions. Green light now works, yay.
Had a coffee when we got home, and my batteries must have been re- charged as well, because I did get in the garden for an hour, and I feel tired but great.
Going to finish a cup of tea and probably have a snooze now.
Where is EV, has she been sent to the norty step, or just not up to posting lately?

Taichinan Wed 24-Feb-21 15:04:06

Fingers crossed re your DH's meds Gingster.
Googling amitriptyline and you got Gransnet, Shelley60? How on earth!?! Welcome anyway - a good find!

Marydoll Wed 24-Feb-21 15:10:53

Auntiflo I had the AA out twice, as I had a flat battery, because the car wasn't been driven.
I was told I needed a new battery, but all it need a run.

polomint Wed 24-Feb-21 15:59:31

Of course * marydoll*
Here is recipe for microwave dumpling
Half pint water
3/4 cup sugar
8oz flour
8oz block margarine
1 lb mixed fruit
1 tablespoon treacle
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon mixed spice
2 beaten eggs

Boil all ingredients ,apart from flour and eggs, in large pan. Simmer for 1 minute. Remove from cooker and add beaten eggs and flour. Pour mixture into large puree bowl double wrapped in clingfilm and put in microwave for 8 to 9 minutes. Dont cover bowl. Stick knife in after cooking and if it comes out clean, it's ready
This recipe seems to be fool proof as lots of family and friends have used it
Enjoy and let me know how it turns out

polomint Wed 24-Feb-21 16:00:39

Not puree bowl, meant to say pyrex bowl or similar

Marydoll Wed 24-Feb-21 17:07:09

Thanks, polomint. My late MIL made a fabulous clootie dumpling, which my husband still raves about.
She refused to share the recipe and took it , along with many others to her grave. DH is convinced she was afraid I would outdo her. wink

grandMattie Wed 24-Feb-21 17:49:10

My Kate MiL was also a very good cook. I refused absolutely to compete with her, letting her make what DH loved, until she died. Then I gave myself permission to make stuff she was very good at ?

polomint Wed 24-Feb-21 18:00:51

Ah yes , a clootie dumpling... memories of windows running with water. My husband loved the white skin

Urmstongran Wed 24-Feb-21 18:21:40

My stepfather ‘s family from Wester Ross sent him a home made clootie dumpling in the post last month. He cut us a slice when we were over at his enjoying a wee dram one afternoon. Very tasty - luscious soft fruit.
??????? ? ?

Good evening Greyduster I decided to refrain from making the yorkys today I couldn't be bothered fighting for space in my kitchen as my ds was making dinner, perhaps tomorrow and I’ll look forward to the Yorkshire magic dust coming my way. I’ll take a photo when I make them.

Greyduster Wed 24-Feb-21 22:20:02

If they’re better than mine, Elizabeth, I shall go into a decline?!

Elizabeth1 Thu 25-Feb-21 15:30:02

greyduster where’s that magic dust my Yorkshire puddings rose alright but they’ve got holes in the middle I’m disgusted to say the least my dh has given up on me I’m determined -one day wink

Gagagran Thu 25-Feb-21 15:54:10

I have always thought dumplings were made with suet. Is this recipe using marge for clootie dumpling then? ( which I have never had)

When we were growing up, my Mum used to make apple dumplings (with suet) wrapped in a pudding cloth and boiled. I sometimes make a plain suet dumpling to go with stew - very easy with Atora suet, SR flour, bit of salt and water to mix.
