I always change our king size bedding once a week, and think there’s nothing nicer than climbing into freshly laundered sheets, I always make sure I get in first ?

I'm really puzzled by the question asked in this thread.
Apart from the fresh smell of laundering, why do we need this constant washing?
And apart from conjugal activities, rare now sad
I remember one of the first threads I joined on Gransnet which was about how often you wash your dishtowels etc.
It's never been important to me - I must be a slut!

Every week here as well: cotton fitted bottom sheets, flat top sheets and pillowcases.
Duvet cover is changed every three weeks as it's decorative rather than functional.
If I ever have a restless night's sleep it's usually when the beds need changing.
Don't iron anything though; tumble dry the fitted sheets, dry the rest on a big airer (outdoors if possible), fold carefully and put away.

inishowen I knew a student who proudly told his mum he'd changed his sheets, just like she'd nagged him to.
Turned out he hadn't washed the old set though, just folded them and put them away! ?‍♀️

Alexa

Romola, I agree with you. I am not amazed though. Most older people are unable to be unconventional.

How old is older? Now in my 9th decade I change them when it seems appropriate. so couldn't tell you when that was Fine cotton sheets demand ironing. Poly/cotton just feels tacky
The bedding is aired daily. Many years ago, I suffered from bad eczema of the legs and discovered that a good daily airing of the bedding cured it, possibly having got rid of the mites that made me itch

If I could afford to pay someone to change my bedding it would be every day, but as I have to do-it-myself every 5 days.

4allwe know I’ve always aired the bed but particularly since we have had memory foam mattresses. I agree about drying outside in winter-it’s rarely fine enough.
I use trouser hangers to hang my sheets in upstairs doorways when the heating is on in winter. They dry overnight, or during the day. Somebody does ironing for us, but teddy fleece bedding doesn’t need it.
I remember a discussion on GN about shower/bath morning or evening. I shower morning, and put clean clothes on, but technically I’ve worn the same bedclothes for a week. ?

Once a week here too! But this got me thinking about my Mum, we had flannelette bedding and blankets when we were children. Mum used to put the top sheets onto the bottom, remove and wash the bottom sheets and pillow cases weekly and the wool blankets were washed every month or so.

Every week.

Can’t change the duvet cover by myself so have to persuade DH to help

Aepgirl Thu 25-Feb-21 14:55:01

If it wasn’t such a faff I would have clean sheets every day. Getting into clean bed sheets is absolute bliss. I change my sheets once a week, but my pillowcases every other day.

LauraNorder Thu 25-Feb-21 14:30:48

If I turn my duvet over I’d be sleeping under the bit that sweaty Orlin had had the previous night. Otherwise I’d have the buttons in my face.

kittylester Thu 25-Feb-21 14:25:18

How do you know which way up your duvet is?

Washerwoman Thu 25-Feb-21 14:17:15

Once a week for sheets and pillowcases and as we use a top sheet the duvet cover every month or so .

BlueSky Thu 25-Feb-21 14:16:32

Same as your DD Granny23! grin

Witzend Thu 25-Feb-21 14:14:48

@Tea3, me too re airing the bed. Often stays like that all day.
@LauraNorder, ? re toast crumbs!

Witzend Thu 25-Feb-21 14:09:01

When I start thinking it must be about time I changed it.

Sheilasue Thu 25-Feb-21 14:06:59

Bottom sheets and pillow cases every week and duvet turned and changed once a fortnight which I have just done today.
Mattress is hoovered every time I change bottom sheet.

Granny23 Thu 25-Feb-21 14:01:50

I put the question to my DD. Her reply? "After every customer"

FranA Thu 25-Feb-21 13:46:22

I’m trying to remember when I last redecorated the bedroom

Tea3 Thu 25-Feb-21 13:45:51

Lucky girl you make me feel normal! I don’t understand this once a week wash. Whatever do folks get up to that warrants that level of cleanliness. But I don’t understand the bed making fetish either. I leave my duvet pulled back all day to air the bed.

GigiA Thu 25-Feb-21 13:42:40

Yes, it is a weird question but one I felt compelled to read the answers to because I remember being shown around a friend’s new home where, apologising for the state of one of her son’s bedrooms she asked me how often I changed my sheets. On learning it was twice weekly she replied; really?!! I do mine only every couple of months. That would account for the smell

It’s amazing how you think you know a person. Her presentation of herself was immaculate and one would never have guessed she climbed out of a filthy bed each morning

mrsgreenfingers56 Thu 25-Feb-21 13:42:13

Once a week, sometimes can stretch to 10 days if the weather isn't good for drying. Have heard of using a sheet under the duvet and been assured it is easier as you can older instead of struggling with the duvet cover.

Wasn't there an argument on Loose Women over this once about how often one changed the bedding?

donna1964 Thu 25-Feb-21 13:38:37

BlueBelle

I m so interested why people want to know this It so often comes up as a thread what on earth is the interest with what other peoples laundry habits are ??
Such a strange thing to ask and even stranger to answer what does it matter what other people do

You can be awful rude! Go read something else if you dont like it or think its a strange post! Just because you think its strange does not set it in stone!

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Thu 25-Feb-21 13:34:25

Vampire queen that is exactly what I would do if had a substantial win on the lottery. Fresh 100%cotton sheets and bedding on the bed everyday and someone else dealing with it including the laundering. My other indulgence would be to have someone else wash and dry my hair every other day, another tiresome chore ?

HurdyGurdy Thu 25-Feb-21 13:34:16

Every Sunday. One set off, and the new set straight on. I hate going to bed and finding that I still need to put new bedding on.

And I'm another who would hire someone to change the bed daily if I won the lottery ?

LauraNorder Thu 25-Feb-21 13:22:30

Toast crumbs are a good exfoliater
