Who writes to the Queen

There's a staff of secretaries dealing with all the Royal correspondence. My Mum's friend was one of them and was sometimes called out of retirement to help out at busy times like Christmas or anniversaries and other royal events which require lots of letters/cards/invitations/thank yous etc.

I wonder how much she tips the postman at Christmas!

In answer to the OP, someone with plenty of time on their hands.

Do they really think the Queen slits her letters open with an embossed letter opener, dons the Royal specs, reads said letter, takes up her Mont Blanc fountain pen, composes a reply, signs ‘Elizabeth R’ with a flourish, licks the envelope and sticks a little picture of herself on the corner?

Surely not.

The Queen wrote personally to a friend of ours, who’s dog had sired a litter of puppies for her. She wrote on both sides of the paper and he had the letter framed between 2 pieces of glass.

I guess that most famous people receive letters from fans.
How awful to think of the Queen sitting there and not receiving any letters at all (apart from her family).
I wonder if she waits for the Postman to see whats arrived, especially on her Birthday? I quite like the thought of that.

I can’t imagine writing to her myself, but I can visualise someone totally frustrated with their treatment by a government department dropping her a line out of sheer desperation, on the grounds that there is no higher authority to turn to. I am sure that Buck House has procedures for dealing with that.

It is fun to consider Bumbling Boris at one of their presumably Zoomed weekly audiences being confronted by an irritated monarch waving a pile of letters she has received on a contentious matter.

I can't imagine any reason why I would even think about writing to the Queen. There are people who knit baby clothes and send them to the palace when a royal baby is born. I like to think that those gifts are forwarded on to a charity that can make use of them.

I once wrote to Queen, the band does that count.

I’m not a royal fan, but I found her “We’ll meet again...” speech last year, when we were in lockdown one, very touching.

Years ago my young niece wrote to the queen ( think it was some sort of celebration) and when a reply was received she framed it and put it in her bedroom wall. When I saw this later I recognised the person who had signed it as the aunt of my best friend, who had worked at Buck.Palace fir many years.

People write to the Queen about all sorts of things. For some she’s a mother figure, for others a sword of justice who will write their wrongs.

People ask for advice and give her advice and tell her about their family troubles, their dogs and horses.

They ask her to take action over disputes with neighbours, teachers, police, doctors and other authority figures.

Every letter receives a reply, usually a thank you for writing from a member of staff on the Queens behalf.

While I admire her, I've never thought about writing to her. What on earth would you say "You don't know me, but.............."
