Galaxy I'm sorry you feel 'uncomfortable' for me highlighting the deaths of hundreds of woman and trying to put things into perspective. I'm sure those women would love to feel uncomfortable, in fact I'm sure they would like to feel anything.

I keep dipping in to this everlasting thread, not because I have a particular obsession with the RF, but just interested in comments from different factions. I am normally a people watcher because they fascinate, and never cease to surprise, but this is almost as entertaining.

Keep it going.
BTW I think objectivity is nigh impossible, but I think recognition of this is insightful.

I actually think M is much more media savvy than she is being given credit for. This interview was circulated globally. It was made at a time when there is a dearth of new programmes being made and released so it got more coverage. It was also aimed at the US market and quite succesfully I think.

I had to google about spades and shovels and I realised that actually the only shovel I saw was the one with a short handle that we used for coal or ashes or anything to do with the coal fire. Apparently there is another sort with a long handle, used in gardening. Who knew? Is it a Northern thing the short handled shovel and long handled spade? I don’t think any one side in the M&H saga is 100% right. I do, however, think the interview was unbalanced and misjudged. I’m sure the press gave M a hard time and she was unhappy. I think as an American she didn’t understand that the RF don’t come out and dispute newspaper articles. There’s also the social media aspect with Twitter etc which can be very nasty. However, it came over loud and clear that she/they expected the Palace to refute certain things and stick up for her. As Brits we know they don’t do that. The withdrawal of security was another major complaint. If you no longer live here and carry out Royal duties you can’t have paid for security provided by the Metropolitan police.

So although they may feel justified in their grievances and may have valid reasons in some instances, there is no justification for that hatchet job of an interview which was an attack on the RF, the British press and the British public. I think it’s unforgivable.

When someone so incredibly privileged as Meghan seems so utterly whiny about their (glorious) lot, it is hard to feel any sympathy. Maybe she never fully understood the true nature of being a royal. Fair enough, that's no ones fault. But she doesn't endear herself to those who understand commitment in their daily lives by her constant complaining.

I think current discussion is all about feeling comfortable, I think if we all felt a bit more uncomfortable it would help.

It was two hours of unmitigated complaints about how wronged they had been by everybody.
The Royal family the palace staff, the tabloid press of course.

Interestingly the allegations of bullying by Meghan from her ex staff were reported not in a tabloid but in The Times.

Like the vast majority of people I remain convinced it’s all lies from a very bitter couple with a huge persecution complex.

On another note, thanks for the 'fisticuffs' - today is a not great anniversary and it's nice not to have to dwell.

Galaxy somewhere along the line I think we seem to have lost that "live and let live" attitude that didn't always result in hostility and taking sides.

The thing is Lucca and Galaxy, the nature of discussion is that no one is obliged to make anyone else feel more comfortable - it's why we have 'tribes' and the validation that they give. Any attempt to 'squash' another tribe will be seen as hostile and the other side will close ranks against it, and even attack.

The ultimate aim, as you said Lucca would be to meet in the middle, but that would involve concession on both sides and as that concession currently involves some people being asked to give up what they believe they know in favour of what they believe you don't it's not going to happen.

As an aside. Personally I haven't seen anyone use the term "team Meghan" other than those who are inclined to see her in a positive light. Happy to be proved wrong.

The BBC is currently reporting on Sharon Osborne apologising for defending Piers Morgan over the whole M and H saga. We are just descending into smaller and smaller circles of nonsense.

I dont think it used to be like this though, I think we used to be able to at least hear the people in the other tribe. We used to share ideas in some way. I dont mean about Meghan and harry, that's not important.

I say true, it's human nature, we are instinctively tribal and communal, so we seek out others who we can identify with and group together with as strength in numbers is a basic survival instinct. We can only do that by observing and making decisions about whether others are friend of foe - we judge them, and they judge us in the same way because they are also trying to identify a like minded group whose principles and values will reflect their own, they also want to have the protection of a group. 'Othering' is what we do as humans, we cannot avoid it, we can't completely transcend it, all we can do is own it, be aware of it and recognise when it does true harm. As in racism and other 'isms'. No one group is ever right, just sometimes less harmful.

on this one. Could it not be that there are if you like faults on both sides ?
I watched quite a bit of the interview. I’ve read a million comments on here. I feel that Mand H should not have done this interview during a pandemic when many people are struggling with worse situations. I think harry is not necessarily so bright and is quite damaged and maybe his judgment is flawed at times. Meghan may well be hypersensitive to any hints of racism. However I do not think she’s conniving manipulative self centred etc and planned the whole thing from the start, because I don’t know her enough, I certainly don’t think Harry is a toad.

People on these threads who don’t agree with the unflinching negative comments about the pair are instantly branded “Meghan supporters”. And told they shouldn’t comment if not interested. But on the other side there are many who declared they wouldn’t watch the interview as not interested, that they wish we didn’t have to keep hearing about the pair, and yet and yet they fill pages and pages with comments ?

I think the whole thing has descended into another culture war. Pick a side. And am sure I am as guilty of that as anyone. It just achieves absolutely nothing. We, I dont mean GN, have just become unable to have a conversation without being in a tribe.
