Meghan and Harry. Has anyone changed their opinion post Oprah?

It’s futile to criticise the RF on here I do realise, but I thought Marina Hyde’s take on things in the Guardian was interesting - .....concerns about bloodline mean so much more coming from any royal house founded on intermarriage. Even so, it feels a little late for the royals to be taking an interest in genetics. A child being a quarter African American is somewhat less of a talking point than one side of that child’s family having repeatedly bred with its cousins for half of the 19th and 20th centuries.

seamstress I believe she was having those thoughts, I just don't believe that the behaviour that followed is congruent to a significant risk to her life from those thoughts. I believe that based on an entire adult life working in mental health, health and women's health plus specialist therapies in various forms. I also believe it based on having had those thoughts myself. I also believe that we deal very poorly with mental health in this country and we still have a very long way to go. I also believe that Harry was the person who needed to facilitate help for her. I also believe it is not fodder for TV.

When I made my choice to leave home to live my independent life, seamstress I didn’t, for one moment, expect my parents to keep on supporting me.

Surely being an independent adult is all about - well - being an independent adult and making a choice means owning your choice.

Same here, I didn't think it was possible to like her any less but it is!! Don't like Piers Morgan but I think he spoke for millions when he said he didn't believe a word she said. She is the centre of her own universe, she's dumped everyone along the way and she'll dump Harry, she'll keep the children, her meal ticlet for life, nannies will deal with them.

No one that I can see is treating Kate "as some sort of sacred figure" trisher but there are plenty who are treating Meghan as if she is.

I really, sincerely fail to understand how you can't see that Meghan is not and has not been criticised for choosing to leave the life of a working royal.

It's the way they've done it that's being criticised.

I also don't understand how you can so passionately support someone who has publicly aimed "insults and slurs" at her husband's family, find it "perfectly acceptable", aim your own insults and slurs at Kate and then criticise those who criticise Meghan.

It’s because there’s so much resentment, it almost blinds them.

Maybe the Queen's statement has acted like a bucket of water and extinguished the fire H&M went to such lengths to start, just leaving the smoke behind which will eventually disappear.

Pity the Queen couldn’t have thrown a bucket of water over MM and Harry before that dreadful interview. Two very entitled people. The indignation over Archer not having a title.

She should have considered her son and unborn baby before doing this interview. History repeating itself.

If the RF are so dignified and magnanimous they should still support their children no matter what, even forking out of their own pockets for security - after all, they are still targets by virtue of their relatives. Those who say they should go away and be quiet don't realise they can't - the press wouldn't let them. They sell papers.

eazybee mollygo,I don't know about you but I always feel it's marvellous that women smashed through the glass ceiling, but it'd be really good if they could glance back from time to time and thank the women who stayed behind to sweep up the glass so no one got cut on the way up behind them.

Really JenniferEccles!!! Well if that's what he was implying that simply demonstrates what a spoiled, over indulged and entitled man he's become doesn't it.

A nasty accusation among so many others and maybe they do deserve each other.

It does amuse me that one isn't allowed to criticise Kate who lives a life of privilege in an outdated institution, that she has in fact to be treated as some sort of sacred figure.
And yet someone who chooses to leave the institution has to have all possible insults and slurs aimed at her and it's perfectly acceptable.
eazybee there's a considerable amount of research into the drugs used in the 1960s-drugs like Valium and their use for treating women for everything from post natal depression (undiagnosed) to anxiety. Believe it or not as you choose.

Harry and Meghan’s tour of Australia was briefly touched on in the interview and I found it particularly distasteful when Harry appeared to be saying that some in the Royal family were jealous as the tour was such a success.

Again, like the ‘racist’ claim there was no evidence to back this up.

I am guessing that the inference was that William and Catherine were the ones who were jealous, but wasn’t it a really nasty accusation to make ?

The overall impression I take from the whole sorry saga is of a spoilt petulant couple who have had a persecution complex from day one.

Some would say they deserve each other.

There are no winners here.

Apart from the money, it's another family dispute/falling out/drifting away/not understanding/having different expectations and feelings - in my opinion.

Eazybee, my mother says she didn’t feel subservient. She says she was too busy nursing and doing all those things you mentioned, without all the modern equipment. My dad, when he was home on leave, mucked in with the jobs to give her a rest.

I think, what they both need, is a real problem. People are dying, losing jobs and some do not have enough money to buy food. They both need a "smacked bottom".

I don’t think it was racist. The mother of 3 of our gc is Korean and many discussions were had before they were born as to what they would look like. As it turned out the first looks Korean, the second Italian and the third English. None of us came up with that combination, it was curiosity I guess, no one was offended.

I would imagine most of us had mothers who were 1950s housewives and I cannot see why it has to be used as a pejorative term.
Those 1950 housewives spent at least half of the 1940s doing war work, my mother and my mother in law certainly did, and the second half battling with austerity; shortages, rationing, lack of housing, re-building, making do.
In the 1950s there were few labour-saving devices, such as fridges, washing machines, telephones, instant food, central heating; running a home then was hard work but it doesn't mean these women did it because they were subservient to their husbands.

Smileless2012 just like others I can only judge from the public persona Kate chooses to present. And yes she does portray a subservient wife. She smiles in all the right places, makes all the required noises and generally behaves like someone who has just stepped out of the 1950s. Is she on anti-depressants? I have no idea, nor I think does anyone else. I don't know. I hope she can find a way to develop some autonomy as she grows older.
I do at least have some sympathy for her but it doesn't stop me criticising what she has allowed herself to become.

I suspect that Catherine takes her example of marriage from her parents and Williams grandparents where she sees support from husband and wife for their different ‘firms’ - and what good examples they’ve been. Certainly better than those others would envy.....

I don't think narcissistic is an appropriate phrase to bandy around about anyone frankly!

But its a bit disingenuous to ignore the relevance of agreeing to a 2 hour interview with one of the best known celebrity interviewers in the world, when commenting on someone using that phrase!!
