Has anyone got a different perspective after watching last evenings interview?
I am be really interested to hear if any of you feel more or less pro the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Good spot, Anniebach. She did refuse security because (google search) she thought they were spying on her. However it was given to her after the divorce - when it was gone she was - as her brother said in his eulogy - "hunted" by the paparazzi.

The only reason William’s children have titles is because they are children of the future King. There are plenty of other great grandchildren of the Queen and they don’t get titles. Harry is way down the pecking order now and that’s the way it works. As for salacious gossip on Google?? There’s plenty about M if you care to look.

Diana refused security

Still catching up after my post earlier (been at work) but you guys do know there's about 4 hours of film that was edited out, don't you? Why didn't Oprah ask about blah blah - maybe she did. But there's only so much you can put into a show and keep people's attention.

Meghan didn't plan to cut her Dad out of her life, he out and out lied to her about something he'd said to the press, then denied it to her, then arranged for a photographer to take shots while he went shopping for a suit for the wedding - presumably for a cash kick-back. You can't do that to your daughter! That's a rotten thing to do.

On the news - more comparisons to Wallis Simpson - bloody hell, that woman had been having numerous affairs while involved with Prince of Wales. She was twice divorced and had affairs with 4 different men at the same time (so the press reports). Appalling to compare Meghan to her.

Talking about affairs - help yourself to a google.
William and Rose Humbley in 2017/18 .... while Kate was pregnant with Prince Louis.
Holier than holy Charles and Camilla - has everyone forgotten Kanga Tryon, who he was seeing at the same time as Camilla? He was cheating on Camilla before he got married to Diana!
Prince Philip had numerous affairs and - so I've been told - many illegitimate children (two ladies I met on holiday having a gossip).
Princess Margaret and Peter Sellers, anyone - ?
Prince Edward with his constant theatre visits to see Michael Ball.

To say Meghan has brought this family into disrepute is astonishing!

And - while his brother has 3 children who are Prince's and Princess, Harry is denied a title for his son, denied security for his infant child. Can anyone recall the awful time Diana had when she was denied her security being bombarded by cameras when out shopping.

I wonder how anyone here being so critical of someone they don't know would feel if their own lives were scrutinised to the same extent in press and public - "did you see the way she was holding his hand" + "did you see her looking all sad then laughing". Come on!

There is now a brief statement from the Queen showing on Twitter, can't copy .

Of course it is bonkers but even the most ardent republicans actually do it when it is expected - Cherie Blair was a prime example, she did a little bob, because she just couldn't avoid doing something.

Aparently the Queen couldn't care less whether it was a Cherie Blair little tiny bob or a Margaret Thatcher deep curtsey right down to the floor, but she has been so used to it for most of her life that a pointed refusal might appear offensive.

Galaxy Tue 09-Mar-21 17:55:19

hmmtwo different things even.

Galaxy Tue 09-Mar-21 17:54:38

But the fact is its bonkers, absolutely weird, perhaps knowing it and having to do it are too different things. Anyone who finds it odd is the sane one in my view.

Because we don't actually know Blinko, we only assume based on the information they decide to share. And because she's not British and as far as I know she didn't have any links to the UK before she met Harry. And like I said not everybody in the world is fixated on the lives of a bunch of posh people from the UK.

Seems to be a lot of angst over her not knowing she had to curtsey. Well Harry told her before she met the Queen she'd have to curtsey and she was surprised. Can't say I blame her. ^Here's my gran. You need to perform a medieval act of obeisance. Strange, I know, but that's how we do things here.^

I wonder whether she had never seen any episodes of "The Crown". Did that start before they were married?.

I've watched some of it recently and you do see members of the Royal family, even the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret curtseying to the queen.

I haven’t changed my mind about them. When they first got together I had no opinion one way or another. They seemed a nice enough couple. But as soon as she cut her dad out of her life, she lost my vote. He seemed to have been a dad who’d always been there for her when she was growing up. But because of a mistake he made with the press, she just cut him out. And
now they’re estranged from Harry’s family as well.
Blaming everyone but themselves. They are a very privileged young couple with massive wealth, I just can’t feel sorry for them .

Galaxy Tue 09-Mar-21 17:46:46

No the majority made up stories to suit their own narrative.

GagaJo Tue 09-Mar-21 17:46:29

Sorry for Camilla? She and Charles are to blame for the mess the current RF are in. Other than the rapist, of course.

A couple of VERY Good actors, did they practise this??? Time to get a life.

I am very sorry for Prince Charles & Camilla, and the Queen, they do not deserve this.

Never liked Diana, her son is as bad, and weak.

Not such VERY good actors. The majority saw through them.

My thoughts too Missfoodlove MM would be a breath of fresh air for the monarchy and would modernise things a bit.
Didn't turn out that way sadly, a great shame. I'm not going to comment on that interview it's been done to death already.
The Queen deserves better than this.

Casdon Tue 09-Mar-21 17:18:54

I had to look up the dates, but Prince Louis was less than a month old when Meghan and Harry got married, so it’s not surprising that his mother was somewhat overwrought really, I bet a drama of any kind was the last thing she would have wanted.

hollysteers Tue 09-Mar-21 17:09:07

If Harry was giving his father hell, it wouldn’t be surprising if he refused to answer his calls.
‘I WANT MORE MONEY!”
I don’t believe half of Meghan’s stories, her miscarriage, suicidal thoughts etc. She said you could see the white knuckles of Harry grasping her hand on the photo of the night she was in a bad way, I couldn’t. When Diana was upset, it was usually noticeable, but that night Meghan was glowing and looked marvellous.
For those who now see the RF as a soap opera, we are getting our money’s worth.
Did I miss Paul Burrell??

tickingbird Tue 09-Mar-21 17:07:05

Alegrias She’s fixated enough to demand her son be a titled prince. She made it clear she was most put out over that. She wants status for herself and her children.

G1asgowgal Tue 09-Mar-21 17:01:19

I am absolutely astounded that they had the nerve to do this. And for him to do this to his family especially at this time when his grandfather is very ill is just plain selfish.I never liked MM and for her to say she didn’t know who he was at first ...well that is just astounding and a very obvious lie.
Also she didn’t know she was expected to curtesy to the queen ! Really what planet is the little madam living on!
I think they or she wanted everything her own way and threw the dummy out of the pram when she didn’t get it and was told she had to follow protocol.
As for Oprah ...well she not such a good actress she very obviously knew about the perceived race insult!
Comments and especially throw away comments can grow arms and legs and from my perspective this is exactly what’s happened.
If she had mental health problems why didn’t her husband call for professional help if it was denied through courtiers. What’s wrong with the man !
I won’t be listening to anything to do with them ...never listened to the broadcast just the snippets here and there and I am glad i didn’t.

I don’t care about anything but the fact that I intensely dislike ‘ partial disclosure ‘ either be honest enough to name the people you are talking about or say nothing!!!!{

JenniferEccles Tue 09-Mar-21 16:53:27

Meanwhile Thomas Markle was interviewed on a tv programme here this morning.

Disgracefully he STILL has never met Harry or his baby grandson.

WHY didn’t Oprah Winfrey challenge Meghan when she said she had ‘lost’ her father.
A lot of people use that term when someone has died.

suziewoozie Tue 09-Mar-21 16:50:47

MM said she didn’t know that you curtseyed in private and that she thought it was just part of public occasions. I hadn’t really thought about it but I guess that’s what I would have thought as well.

Atqui Tue 09-Mar-21 16:48:47

I switched off when the childish “Kate made me cry” bit came on. Don’t most brides get emotional when preparing for their weddings.?
I don’t understand why M went to HR or ask for help for her depression rather than her husband who could have whisked her off to Harley Street . I read that Prince Charles had therapy for fourteen years , and that Princess Margaret had help, from The Priory. We know that Diana was a patient of Susie Orbach.Perhaps Meghan asked the wrong people for help.
Also Harry inherited millions of pounds from his mother and great grandmother so why should Charles have continued to pay him an allowance when he (H)stepped down.

Missfoodlove Tue 09-Mar-21 16:48:38

Some really interesting responses.

When I started the thread this morning I was not too sure about how I felt.
I have now trudged across the Yorkshire Wolds for 4 hours and mulled it all over.

I feel so sad as I felt she had brought a new dimension to the RF, I felt she and her family were accepted unconditionally by the British public and the RF.
It was looking good for a new modern monarchy.

What was the turning point?
Was it when Tom Bradbury asked how she was?

I believe she’s an attention seeker, she wants to draw parallels between herself and Diana.

I don’t for 1 second believe the questions were not selected.....no mention of the many staff that left her employment nor do I think OW reacted naturally to the racism claims.
Nor did OW ask how she “ healed “ after being suicidal and so it goes on.

Not leaving home for 4 months... really!
The Daily Mail would have had a few stories on that if it were true.

Not convinced and non of it can be unsaid.
It’s sad and destructive.

God save the Queen!
Poor woman.
