suziewoozie I am shocked that you say we shouldn’t have free speech in this country. Would you prefer the UK to be like China where ‘free speech’ is not allowed? Is it right that the people in China cannot speak out against the abuse of the Uyghar people and other ethnic minorities? Is this the kind of society you want in the UK?

Of course we don’t have free speech - we have laws of libel, slander, hate crime - free speech means the freedom to speak without consequences. We don’t have that and neither should we. No one can be allowed to say whatever they want without consequences. There is a huge difference between PM being free without consequence to basically call MM a liar and the suppression of political dissent that we see in countries like Turkey, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Belarus and so on.

In respect of the opening post, I should imagine that by the end of the week, PM will have another job and will carry on the tradition of "gobshiteing" for Tabloid news. He feeds the hate he knows is out there re; M&H or anything/anybody else.

It took me a moment to fathom what was meant. However thank you for letting me know that you are another poster who thrives on pointless hostility. Another one to ignore.

We all have to temper free speech with what is PC or sensitive to employment, after a long history criticizing Meghan, PM crossed the line on editorial free speech and is gone - end of.

If I was his wife, who by the way seems to be a lovely woman, I would be concerned about his continual talk about Meghan, it seems to be obsessive.

Thank you Alegrias for your post(s). It’s a pity but predictable that this issue as with so many is presented in such a binary fashion, generally by those who support the RF. When there are family problems, there will rarely, if ever be an objective truth. Actually that’s true of all types of relationships. All the various players will have their own versions and perceptions that can grow over time and the more time that passes, the more they are probably subject to confirmation bias and harden. I don’t think either side in this can be seen as objectives purveyors of ‘the truth’ but I think the relentless attacks on MM and PH are pretty low. I think the worst one I read yesterday said she lied about her miscarriage. Is that the type of free speech we should be championing?

On the odd occasion I watched morning TV I always wondered how Suzanne Reid put up with Piers Morgan’s constant interruptions and arrogance. I think I would have been tempted to give him a kick under the desk! However, whether you agree/disagree with his views on the latest Harry and Meghan fiasco it does seem as if any kind of ‘free speech’ has died. Whilst it has been ok for people to say that they believe the Harry/Meghan allegations unreservedly the opposite is true of anyone who holds a different view and has the audacity to actually state those views on TV. I am beginning to feel that every conversation I have should be preceded by ‘ I apologise in advance for anything I might say which might offend you’.

I think it’s more complex than this. Firstly, he had a National platform on GMB day after day to criticise her in addition to Twitter and his newspaper columns. And he’s used them all pretty relentlessly. Secondly, we don’t have free speech in this country and neither should we. Thirdly, saying you don’t believe a word someone says about their mental health problems can have consequences for other people who may be deterred from mentioning theirs.

I dislike the man, his attitude and his opinions but he has as much right to express them as everyone else.

The media promote controversy wherever it comes from, in the last couple of years there has been a lot of comment on Meghans relationship with the RF and indeed her own family. We now know that the allegations were largely true, Meghan has blamed the RF, they have predictably neither confirmed or denied that.

That's ridiculous. You can say you don't believe her, or that it seems unlikely etc.

People can't repeat and repeat in all kinds of different ways that they think she set out to undermine the monarchy, that she is a gold digger, that Harry has been duped. That Harry is a greedy person who is just freeloading on his dad. That's not free speech, that's damaging speculation and sometimes possibly libel. You are not the ones being picked on here.

And I'd point out that those of us who state otherwise get told to stop reading the threads or posting on them, or that we are somehow rude or ungrateful. And I'm not offended, FGS, I'm disappointed that we still have people who fall for the tabloid rubbish and idolise the RF to such an extent that they can't see how unhappy one of them one was in his gilded cage, and still blame him.

BTW - can you find a post where someone says they believe the allegations unreservedly? No, thought not.
