Do you use your landline?

I hardly ever even bother answering my landline nowadays. If anyone is trying to get hold of me, they can always leave a message.
The only calls I get are scams (including one that woke me up at eight o'clock this morning grr!)
Everyone has my mobile number and knows they can get hold of me there (and make calls for free).
Does anyone still use their house phone any more?

I have a gorgeous vintage phone. Just decoration now. I live on a narrow boat...no connection.

Shortlegs I guess you would have me down as a Luddite then as I do still use the landline for receiving and making calls.

The people who call me on it are not Luddites, they are simply people who are aware of my hearing impairment and know that I find the landline easier than my mobile for audio conversations. For some reason my hearing aids are more effective with a landline than my mobile.

I assure you that I am fully conversant with and an avid user of all modern technology.

Yes, not everyone can afford mobile costs. My mum has a pay as you go mobile as she doesn’t want a contract. She does not want long conversations on a mobile, so she uses her landline to call me and I use mine to call her. We are both on the same company so the calls are free.

Yes I love my landline. I can make as many calls as I like on it for no extra money and it is MUCH easier to hear the calls than on my mobile. Also I can never remember where I have left my mobile and tend to panic if it goes off!

Yes, we still use the landline as we have no mobile signal where we live and it still works during a power cut.

Never use my landline. I don’t even know the number ?
We moved house 18 months ago and have never learned it. I think I have it stored on my mobile somewhere .

yes i use my landline its cheaper esp when most of my friends have the same provider as me.so it cost me nothing for the call

All the time if I'm home. Those close, like family and friends, also use it. If they ring my mobile by the time I've found it it's too late and I have to ring back.

Of course I do, welcome to mid Norfolk!

Danma Fri 12-Mar-21 12:11:12

I never use my landline and have never shared the number, therefore my voicemail message goes something like this “if you hear my voice then you must have dialled the wrong number as I don’t use this phone, please check the number you think you have called”

I heard two ladies on the line once commenting how rude my message was....... I often wonder if they ever got through to the number they really wanted ?

olliebeak Fri 12-Mar-21 12:30:22

No! There isn't even a phone plugged into it. I've only got it because I couldn't get Internet without having a Landline installed sad.

Craftycat Fri 12-Mar-21 12:33:15

Very rarely use it. I have one friend who always calls that number but mostly it is sales calls which I just hang up on immediately.

I use my landline regularly and pay a monthly price which includes all my calls.
The reception is better than my mobile

Noreen3 Fri 12-Mar-21 12:38:23

I suppose I have a landline as it's been part of my tv and broadband package. My family tend to use my landline number rather than my mobile one,not sure why.I don't use it to call them back if I miss their call,it costs a fortune,I use my mobile. It's handy to have a landline phone upstairs too,I never remember to carry my mobile about with me

darbycall Fri 12-Mar-21 12:42:32

I only use my mobile for emergencies. that is what I got it for years ago when traveling long distances by automobile. I use my land line almost exclusively, to me nothing beats settling in comfortably in my own home for a chat with friends or family. I realize I am terribly old fashioned but so what!

Fernhillnana Fri 12-Mar-21 12:49:59

I hate our landline but my husbands mum uses it a lot so we are stuck with it.

Tickledpink Fri 12-Mar-21 13:07:38

No, the landline is only there for the internet. We disconnected the phones and with all the scammers, I’m glad we did.

gillyknits Fri 12-Mar-21 13:11:27

I still use my landline for nearly all calls. I have a “pay as you go “ mobile which I only take if I’m going out without my DH. My family call it my “immobile phone” as it sits on the charger all the time. I can use my I-pad for messaging etc .

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 12-Mar-21 13:14:57

On the whole I prefer to speak on the landline and use the mobile for texting, etc. As always, there are exceptions to the rule.

Rosie51 Fri 12-Mar-21 13:27:32

I still have a landline and do use it for long chats to other landlines, using my free allowance. Are people so unaware that phoning a mobile from a landline or mobile that isn't on a minutes included contract is incredibly expensive? For my older relatives that would make them very reluctant to phone just for a chat, they'd keep phone contact to absolute emergencies except when I phoned them. My husband has a payg phone so only phones my mobile once in a blue moon when we're both out separately. He gets free minutes to landlines so 'phones home' quite frequently smile I think the use of the term luddites was very condescending and rude.

leeds22 Fri 12-Mar-21 13:30:19

Prefer to receive calls on the landline. I don’t carry my mobile around with me in the house, so don’t always hear if it rings.

Jane43 Fri 12-Mar-21 13:34:30

We also unplugged our land line because of daily nuisance calls. We both have unlimited calls on our mobiles so no need to plug it back in, in fact we’ve forgotten the number.

NoddingGanGan Fri 12-Mar-21 13:37:52

Yes as signal is poor for my mobile but I don't ring out on it as it costs a lot.
I message my children and if they want to chat they ring the landline (they all have unlimited inclusive minutes so it doesn't cost them a bean extra) if I'm out and need to ring DD2 at home (she lives with me at present) I phone the landline as even her phone isn't that reliable, though it's much better than mine! (I have inclysive minutes too)
If I need to actually ring someone whilst at home (only ever ring companies or surgeries or council or whatnot, never personal) then I say, "it's such a bad line, I'll ring you back on landline" and they invariably say, "oh no, you might not get to me, I don't have a direct line to give you, give me the landline number". If they don't, I play the old gimmer line," oh dear the handset isn't in its cradle, can you ring me? I have no idea where I've put it but if you call me I'll hear it ringing!
Yorkshire woman, short arms and long pockets! ? ?

I have a landline it came with the broadband package. It's too expensive to use at 20pence a minute. No one knows the number either. At my old flat l had a very good deal with talk talk l can only have bt here though.
