But hopefully a successful day ,

I read ‘The Goldfinch’ which is why I bought this one. Only just started it LadyO - it will keep me entertained this afternoon I hope. A friend had recommended it sometime ago. I love reading. How to ‘lose’ yourself in peace and quiet without even trying.
?

Urmstongran Fri 12-Mar-21 13:49:17

muse bet you he’d eaten pig’s liver! Very tubey.
??

LadyO Fri 12-Mar-21 13:27:48

Urmstongran The Secret History was a good book, (I read it because I’d enjoyed The Goldfinch by the same author). It reminded me of the TV series ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ both set on a US campus with a charismatic professor...

Back today to reading through everyone's comments. Stressful day, yesterday, waiting for son to call which didn't happen. He did send a short text saying he would ring on Sunday. I'll try to keep the worries at bay until we can talk.

Cornwall - It's piddling here too Beechnut but a little sun is expected. I shall dive out with Mya when it does. Got caught in two heavy downpours yesterday,

Mick - hope the monitor gives positive results for you,

Urms - asked MrM if he fancied liver for dinner today. I was doing the delivery order last night). His face told it all. Can't convince him that not all liver is tubes! (I love liver and bacon and mash.

Sheep My thoughts are with little Pinchy. Room for him here.

EV I do miss a food shop at M&S. Used to do one once a month before covid. Only two in Cornwall and my nearest is a 45 min drive away, Lucky you.

Amerleran. Moles are a menace here too. Over the past week I've collected soil from about a dozen mounds. Sorry to say but the traps are out. They dig up under our path around the cottage. Some slabs are now uneven again. (I fell twice, once damaging a rib) They were relaid last year after a big infill of the tunnels. I'd saved all the soil in some big feed bags we have.

Aggie - I'm fed up with home cooking for the two of us so ready meals have been on the delivery list for the past month, Love them but can't wait to eat out again.

Marydoll You need a survival course for trips to that chemist.

Pittcity Are you moving far? My worst move was 500 miles and then everything went into storage.

Lots of activity here today. Woodburner being refitted along with the flue in the new house. Flue was faulty. Fitters have just knocked on the door. "Have you got any tiles left over for the roof?". They've broken some getting the flue out. Luckily, we have. MrM doesn't throw or give anything away.

Highlight of my day will be daughter ringing at 2:00pm before granddaughter gets home from school.

I see a small amount of sunshine so Mya is at the door ready for me. Take care everyone from far and near.

Good morning Mick and all from a cool and dull Lancashire northwest coast.
I hope your procedure goes well Mick and I remember Banbury market day with great fondness, spending childhood holidays in the area.
Off to Asda this morning for essential bits and pieces, but will try to give the chocs and biscuits a miss. A red spotted dress I ordered online arrived yesterday and is a good fit. I’m not going anywhere, so have hung it on the wardrobe door to look at and cheer me up.
Watched a programme on James Mason last night, wonderful voice and handsome.
Thinking of Marydoll, Taichinan and all with troubles.
Looking forward to reading all the entries later.

Grandmajean Fri 12-Mar-21 10:46:37

Just reading posts after a housework morning. Love your post Marydoll and the "tails" of the lambs Sheep and Cattle
SIL has been contacted and offered a vaccination so , apart from the youngsters, all my family have had one and DS had his second yesterday. Good news.
Best wishes to all with a difficult day.

TopsyIrene06 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:35:58

Lovely news Gagagran I meant - sorry I'm not good on here!

Kalu Fri 12-Mar-21 10:34:45

Good morning all from a very windy day again in Glasgow where it is sunny at the moment! Yesterday was a lamps on, lamps off day with a mixture of sunshine and dark clouds.

As pottering in the garden will be impossible today, I plan to play about with some craft work. I’m sure I could find lots of housework to do but that’s no fun. ?

Have the best day you can everyone.

TopsyIrene06 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:34:26

Lovely news.

Blossoming Fri 12-Mar-21 10:33:20

Good morning all, it’s much calmer here in Lancashire today and no rain forecast until this evening. Yesterday I managed to take down some curtains with the aid of a step stool and replace them. I felt very dizzy but pressed on knowing Mr. B was within calling distance. This sort of thing is very difficult for me so it felt like an achievement, but I am paying for it today with stiffness and pain. I’m hoping for a short walk later if my balance is OK.

Look after yourselves all, the end is in sight.

Mapleleaf Fri 12-Mar-21 10:16:19

Good morning all from a brightening but damp South Yorkshire. At least the wind has eased down a bit.

Take care everyone.

Taichinan Fri 12-Mar-21 10:12:42

Good morning all from a sunny and blowy (and forecast to be considerably blowier) Angus coast.
I wrote a long post yesterday and just as I typed the last word I became a fumble thumb and lost it all. I wish this site had a "do you really want to delete this" function! Anyway I had run out of time, so no post I'm afraid.
Today I shall try to be more careful!
What a lot of hospital visits and tests are on the cards today. Healing thoughts to you all ??. And while I remember, thank you for all the kind thoughts and hugs after mine.
But it does show that the NHS is able to get back into gear again, which is reassuring.
I hope you get good news for little Pinchy, sheep. I can quite see that sheep need strong legs to carry that weight of fleece as they get older - their comparatively skinny little legs never look strong enough to me as it is! You yourself - what a whirlwind! I'm in awe of your energy.
Hugs to Marydoll - I'm sure you were just like sheep before RA took hold of you. You have such fighting spirit. Loved your novella this morning. Keep on with what you're doing - it must be right as you've come so far ?
Good luck with your move today Pittcity - this time next week you'll be well settled in ?
I'm now gearing up for the visitation from DD and two DGDs on Sunday. I am so excited - I've even bought a fire bowl (TGF the Big River ?) for us to sit round and sizzle some sausages and toast some marshmallows. From today, in Scotland we are allowed to entertain up to four people from one other family unit in our gardens AND allow them inside to use the toilet!! I told DD that I was happy to drive to meet them in Perth, our usual halfway point, but it was the use of the toilet that appealed to her!!
I had a visit yesterday from a fellow tai chi instructor (outside in the wind and rain of course ?) and we have agreed that as meetings of up to 15 people outside for non-contact sporting activity is now permitted we can hold our annual Tai Chi on the Beach on April 1st! What a tonic that will be for all. In the past we have done it in every type of weather you can imagine (except for a heatwave of course! They are few and far between here, even in summer). If more than 15 people turn up, and that's highly possible, we will split into two or even three groups - there's more than three miles of beach, so plenty of space! The only thing that will stop us is the tide, which needs to be at its lowest. Not even the power of Tai Chi can turn that?. But it's lovely to think ahead and plan - it feels so normal.
Please have a good day everyone - and Gagagran I hope you get Mr G home very soon now. May ? and ? abound in your lives, one and all.

grandMattie Fri 12-Mar-21 09:59:13

Wonderful news, gaga.
Marydoll, you and sheep could join forces and publish a book called "Town and Country"! I'm sure a lot of us would get it - sadly it would blow your covers... unless - it was from an "anonymous lady and a farmer"?

GrannySomerset Fri 12-Mar-21 09:56:13

So far this morning we have had heavy rain, hail and now sunshine. Suspect the rest of the day will be equally interesting.

Can only imagine the effect of yesterday’s frustrations, Marydoll, my blood pressure would have been off the scale. A little gentle decorating of fairy doors sounds like enough for today. Hope the rain holds off for Pittcity’s move, that Mick gets to and from hospital without event, and that Mr Gagagran makes it home to his own bed and individual nursing care.

Off to Tesco for my weekly “treat” shortly, dodging the showers I expect.

ginny Fri 12-Mar-21 09:55:47

Good Morning all from a dull windy and damp N. Bucks.

DH is taking our next door neighbour down to her doctors appointment and then his Mother to a hospital appointment. Good job he is in good health I’ve hardly seen him all week due to other people’s. appointments but they cannot get there otherwise.

I have another medical call this afternoon so hope to get things a bit more sorted for myself.

Hopefully a short walk if the rain holds off for a while. Bit of ironing to do otherwise bits and pieces.

Good luck to the movers and those with various tests and appointments.
Gaga pleased your DH is doing well. Take care of yourself Marydoll. and all with problems of any sort.
Hope you all find a ?today.

Gelisajams Fri 12-Mar-21 09:53:45

Good morning from a breezy Morecambe Bay. I was hoping to meet Ds2 and go for a walk and picnic with him, but we have postponed it because of the weather. Maybe next week when he’s off work again.
I love your ‘ramblings’ Marydoll you paint a great picture.
Rest up today after those exertions.
Good to hear Mr G is on his way home.
I’m off to find an exercise video now. DH is in his shorts patiently waiting for me.
Take care everyone and stay safe ?

Grammaretto Fri 12-Mar-21 09:51:05

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it is dry and bright so far. but cold. 2°C only.
I baked a cake for MiL's birthday but it sank. Do I have to eat it all myself?
Good news Gagagran such a relief. I hope he makes a good recovery in your tender care.

Sorry about your awful day Marydoll. I thought there was a home pharmacy delivery service mind you it never worked for us

Great excitement as MiL is being driven to visit me tomorrow, in the garden. This will be her first time out since DFiL's funeral in January. I wish it was warm and sunny.

I have a man from the council calling today to look at a neighbour's dispute, involving our land (long boring story)
I tried to put him off but it has to be.

I shall be rooting for Pinchy Sheepandcattle
thinking of you Bellasnana and Cornergran
Good luck with the house move Pittcity and all you grans have the best day you can.

GrannyOwl5 Fri 12-Mar-21 09:50:43

Morning everyone from a blustery north Kent. Hoping to walk to our local butchers, but looks as though it might rain, so will hang about for a bit.

Not much else planned for the day apart from spraying the seeds I planted last week end. They are all emerging one after the other almost as I watch them.

I am another one who hopes Sheep’s Pinchy improves. Also hope that the house move, medical appointments and other activities go well.

Sounds as those your DH is not having the best of days B9exchange; presume the veneer is going on his teeth? ?.

Hope you all have a good day. Stay safe

Nannagarra Fri 12-Mar-21 09:42:31

Yes, I too love your novellas, Marydoll! I would have reacted in exactly the same way to those people while you waited for your prescription and I empathise with Bellasnana. (I won’t scroll back to check my spelling as I’ll lose the post!)

Thank you for the recipe yesterday, Marydoll, and for the book recommendation, Urmstongran.

My ‘share’ this morning is Nigel Slater’s recipe for sticky toffee pudding.

Jaxjacky Fri 12-Mar-21 09:39:03

Gaga great news! ???

Gagagran Fri 12-Mar-21 09:36:25

Just heard - DH is coming home this afternoon! His consultant asked him if he could manage the side effects of his latest surgery at home and as he said he could, then his discharge was agreed.

DD will taxi him when we get the time of release. Both he and I are delighted and will cope with whatever we have to.

Thanks everyone for all the kind and supportive messages. Much appreciated. sunshine

LauraNorder Fri 12-Mar-21 09:17:08

Good morning all from cold, dry Anglesey.
I have realised that I am getting cross about everything so once I’ve posted my good wishes to you all I am switching off my phone along with all tv, radio and social media for 24 hours.
We’re going to have a long walk, do a bit of housework, play the music of our choice and dance the day away.
???

aggie Fri 12-Mar-21 09:16:26

Good Morning all, it was a lovely morning when I got up so I stripped the bed and the machine is happily churning away , of course the clouds are rolling in !
Eldest DD has just got my list for the farm shop round the corner , it includes their shepherds pie . I got a disapproving tut ! Seems home cooking is more in vogue than ready meals ..... well ok if your cooking for a family , but for one ? I know my home made was much enjoyed when everyone was at home ..... short cuts are fashionable in my house now !

B9exchange Fri 12-Mar-21 09:13:41

Morning all from a grey, rainy Hertfordshire. Come back Tuesday, that was an amazing day!

Thinking of you all and your brave spirits today, hope all goes well with the medical procedures, and little Pinchy straightens out enough to live a bit longer.

I was woken at 6.45 am by a man hammering on the door, come to collect the second unwanted bath panel. I know some of you are posting by then, but to me it is still nighttime, and I had to get up quickly despite the ongoing vertigo, find a dressing gown, switch off the alarm before it went off, thus letting our Siamese cats out of the utility room, before I could open the front door. Then have to prevent said cats from escaping (they are house cats, busy road outside) and manoeuvre a large, curved, floppy bath panel into the hands of the man outside at the same time, whilst waiting for the world to stop spinning.

Tried to go back to bed, but pointless to shut the cats up again as they would just yell. Giving them the reign of the house however led to bedlam; furious chasing each other across furniture, and across us trying to sleep, knocking everything off the dressing table, swinging on the curtains to try to see the sparrows in the ivy outside, and then one of them took a flying leap and landed on a delicate part of DH's anatomy! The resulting oath led to him deciding to get up, poor soul is now at the dentist getting a new veneer put on.

Happy Friday everyone!

grandmajet Fri 12-Mar-21 09:12:04

Definitely a compliment. ?
