This has to be the cruellest race for the horses, in the world. So many horses die in this event, or in the following days, through being pushed beyond their physical limits. It seems obscene to support it by placing bets, real or virtual. Like fox hunting, I believe it should be banned. Britain is falling behind in animal welfare, and I for one will not take part in supporting cruelty in any form.

You have an extremely valid view.
I have a love / hate relationship with horseracing; but I'm not going to comment further on this thread, and I politely ask everyone else not to comment.
