It is getting closer to the time when I get my legs out and trousers can no longer hide my shame....... The skin on my legs is so dry and flaky and it is an awful sight blush
Does anyone know of a good moisturiser to sort out this problem? I have to say that I have tried out quite a few already!
Thank you smile

I see a certain shop is bringing in an Avocado body butter, they did it 20 years ago and it was wonderful for dry skin. At the risk of smelling like a salad, rub the inside of avocado skin on your legs - so soothing.

Coconut oil is great, pure and you can also find organic coconut oil.

Firstly, I refuse to use shower products that are detergent based as opposed to natural ingredients, as these can strip the natural oils out of the skin further. I also suffer with dry flakey skin, and use Zerobase Emolent Cream in the pump bottle which my GP prescribed for.me, you can also buy it from any good pharmacy.
I tried several before settling for Zerobase, but I found that some of them had the consistency of Vaseline and just sat on the surface of my skin and never got absorbed properly, leaving a Greasy mess!

Vaseline also a Cocoa Intensive Care Radiant moisturiser from a spray can.
Many might object to a spray can, but it is convenient.
Leaves a light sheen on bare legs and I like it for summer days.
On offer at Superdrug this week, 50% off so £3.23.

The skin on my legs looks like an old, dried-up leather glove! There's sun damage from my youth as well as the ravages of age. Almost any moisturiser can make it look better and feel more comfortable temporarily. Aveeno is the best I have tried but I also use a simple aqueous cream just for variety. When I feel luxurious, there's nothing like Liz Earle's Botanical body lotion. Soon it will (hopefully) be time for fake tan and sandals!

Mine are similar, like some sort of prehistoric scaly lizard unless I exfoliate regularly. I don’t use potions, a pumice stone with a warm soapy lather works well, and just lately I’ve found that the mini loofah things sold by Lakeland - supposedly for cleaning! - are also very good. (And cheap!)
Always a soak in the bath first. And plenty of moisturiser after absolutely every bath or shower. I usually use Vaseline Intensive Care.

I'm with you rubysong and don't shower every day for the same reason that my skin is so dry. A good old wash at the sink keeps me clean and sweet smelling on the other days. So well done for coming clean about your hygiene routine (see what I did there?) smile

Interesting
Comments regarding daily showers. If I showered daily my skin would be like a lizard. I do not smell! I wash all relevant bits on the days I do not shower. If daily shower fans have any care for the environment they will have to change their ways. Anything that heats water (and the delivery of the water) uses a lot of power and thus contributes to our global warming emergency. Also it is difficult to moisturise without adding to the mountains of plastic being produced and most of them contain palm oil. No one who considers themselves ethical should be showering every day.

Definitely Aveeno, works well for me.

I use body butter every day after my shower all year round, on my legs and my arms.
I use Aveeno on my face.

Bio oil or Bio oil Gel. Great for putting on dry skin.

Late to the party but another vote for Aveeno

Thank you everyone for all the helpful advice smile

I use Bodyshop's Almond Milk and Honey cream, and it completely subdues my itchy leg skin for weeks at a time.

The key is not to let it go too far. I moisturise lower legs and massage feet every single day, and get rid of any dry build up- every single morning.

Zerocream worked for me.

I have this on prescription from doctor for dry itchy legs .

At first I used morning and night.
Now I only have to apply once a day after my shower.

Never miss a day and skin now no longer dry, itchy or flaky.

tiredoldwoman Fri 23-Apr-21 11:08:31

Baby oil after shower , every day .

I use Epaderm as an emollient instead of soap and it helps a lot. You can get it on prescription. I have used Diprobase (also available on prescription) but mostly use Nivea. I have excema and my skin is very dry but this helps.

I suffer with Eczema on the lower part of both legs , and through my surgery , one of the nurses decided to on prescription to have Hydromol ointment, which is a 500mg tub very much like a soap as well , it moistens the skin.

I've been using Aveeno for my dry legs and arms. I like the original one the best.
Two of my grandsons have x-linked ichthiosis, and this is what they were prescribed with as babies.

NotSpaghetti Fri 23-Apr-21 09:17:08

My father always used Almond oil notinthemanual.
I know it's very gentle.

Notinthemanual Fri 23-Apr-21 09:14:58

Having never been entirely happy with body lotions / moisturisers I started using Argan oil, when that ran out I used almond oil. For me oil is much better and my toenails and cuticles have benefitted too.

Aveeno every time !

Cheesey Fri 23-Apr-21 08:31:00

Another vote for Aveeno. I have dry skin too and this is the best body moisturiser I have used. I bought some for my sister who was complaining about dry skin on her legs and she said the same.

Puzzler61 Fri 23-Apr-21 08:30:40

Another vote for Aqueous cream. You can afford to be generous with it as it’s ‘cheap as chips’ ?
A Dermotologist recommended it to me as there is little in it anyone could be allergic to, unlike perfumed moisturisers.
