Cream or jam first

Sainsbury’s have upset Cornwall by showing an advert for scones with the jam on top of the cream. How do you do yours? We are not Cornish but we do put the jam on first and then the cream, it is easier and just seems right.

Just received a Devon cream tea box as a birthday gift. It’s fabulous and it is always butter, strawberry jam and the delicious clotted cream on top. It is only logical! ?

nipsmum I love a cheese scone not often have you tried it with cream cheese and chutney its like a savoury version not to much of the cream cheese and just a teaspoon of the chutney a nice treat.

Definitely cream first for me. In my mind the cream is a butter substitute so it’s obvious! Anyway, whatever floats your boat. It all goes down the same way.

I'm Cornish so its jam first. Definitely nice to put the cream on the top, as you can really taste especially if its Cornish Clotted Cream!!

I'm from Devon, cream first in place of butter (you can still pile it on), then the jam. I don't overly like jam, far too sweet so ideal for me!

Somerset lass here - always thin layer of butter, jam then cream on top! Sorry there is no other way ??!

Matter of taste but much prefer the jam on first.

Butter, then jam, then cream!
If there is no butter, use the clotted cream as butter, with jam on top/

Personally speaking, I don't like putting the jam onto the 'dry scone'.

My method is to spread a thin layer of Clotted Cream (OR butter) directly onto the scone.

- 2nd some jam.

- Finally add the beautiful dollop of Clotted Cream on the top!

If it's served to you as a 'Cream Tea' - surely it comes with all it's components in separate ramekins. THAT way, it's entirely up to the customer to assemble their Scone in whatever way suits their individual preference.

The customer is ALWAYS right wink.

ps - I was brought up to believe that it's extremely bad manners to look at, OR comment on, what was on another person's plate - OR on how they ate.

We never put cream on at all when little. Butter then jam if you"Needed" it. Also pronunciation of scone? I say it with a had lower case" o " DSil from the south says it softer
Pasties crimped around the side at home and in shops at school crimped along the top maybe the teacher wasn't local.

Always Devon clotted cream first spread over about half an inch thick (at least) to stabilise the top then a dollop of jam on top.
