There’s a good article in today’s times by Hugo Rifkind about “Dianafication” or “Liverpudlianisation” — Irrespective of how Martin Bashir landed his interview a quarter of a century ago, it was a landmark. The word “Dianafication” is hard to trace, but it was popularised by Anthony O’Hear, a philosophy lecturer at Bradford University. It was Jonathan Meades in The Observer who coined “Liverpudlianisation”, which basically means the same thing. I quote: 'Both refer to an unstoppable British trend towards what you would probably call “emotional honesty” if you approve of it or “emotional incontinence” if, like them, you did not.'

I’m unsure what Harry wants to gain from his regular appearances. Probably not the reactions that many of the public in Britain appear to have had. It is puzzling.

As to why there are so many threads about Harry. Well I really don’t know. It would appear that posters are interested either in a positive or a negative way. But they must be interested otherwise they’d scroll past them.

What is the fascination? Why do we have so many threads about this? And all so similar with sometimes identical posts?

I think the fascination is seeing what used to be an apparently happy, privileged, if sometimes outré, young man turn into a resentful whinger.

There is. : harry and Meghan/Prince harry/ PH not another one/ and one by another name that I can’t remember ... and that’s just this week !

I mentioned on one of the threads Annie, that I could understand why people want to talk about other people's problems and issues, and that this could be a way of thinking about our own problems. I think that's why many of us post on different threads. I can understand why people complain about Harry and Meghan being everywhere in the press.

But I can't for the life of me understand why anyone makes such terrible accusations about Harry and Meghan, especially about things none of us know anything about. Speculating that she is such a terrible person, that Harry is so weak, and so on. It really astonishes me that there is such hatred for her. And that's what it is.

I really don't understand it, sorry.

see no one else. I leave rolling news on to hear what’s going on in the world and to see human faces , the main topics are Covid and Harry. I find the threads on the royal family interesting, I find people interesting, some people interesting,
I have met Charles several times, I find him a caring man.

I am interested in people’s views on mental health, when I was
in better health I worked for two charities on help lines, one was for mental health problems. My darling daughter took her life 3 years, 5 months ago, I cared for her through the pain of
Bi polar and supported her three children and her husband then , after her death and still do.

Alegrias I had another underestimate. I've got 11 doors to gloss paint not 9. Is it any wonder I need distraction.

I'm too old for this, nearly 70 is supposed to be putting your feet up not decorating a house. You should have seen me doing the stairs, it's a wonder I didn't break my neck.

I missed out more so it should be, I've been on here more in the last week or so than I have in the last year.

A dozen seems alot, I'm just having a break from decorating the house, my knees are demanding a bit of a rest so I've been on here in the last week or so than I have in the last year so didn't know about so many threads.

I have got 9 doors to gloss plus skirting boards. Harry and Meghan are a distraction. I hate gloss paint, the smell, the drips, the horror.

Boredom probably. Not much to do at the moment. Don't know about the rest of the country but where I am we have had torrential rain for days so don't feel like going out. Pesonally I've only seen one other thread so not sure how many there are and I'm not fascinated with this thread particular, I'm following several others all about other topics.

trisher do you think the things Harry has said show any compassion? Do you think his grandmother feels he is showing compassion to her.

There are probably faults on both sides but a little compassion would go along way, the Queen has said he and Meghan are much loved, how has he responded.

Harry has by his own actions estranged his own family. How will that work out for him?

I'm just realising that compassion and concern mean trashing everything someone says, telling someone tackling mental health problems they don't know what they are talking about, making accusations about them being manipulated and assuring them their future is very dark. Who knew??? I learn such a lot on GN.

Why isn't it compassionate to think that in the long run Harry might be damaging himself? Therapy can stir up all sorts of feelings, then you work through it, hopefully at the other end you feel better and your important relationships are intact, better than ever in fact.

It is hard to imagine how this is going to work out in a positive way for Harry. He is also starting to look a bit odd when he is saying things that are demonstrably untrue. Today newspapers have shown photos of him on the back of his dads bike when he was a little one, riding on his bike with his parents, being towed in a little cart behind his dads bike, all that after he used being able to go out of a bike with Archie as a thing he can do with his son that his father couldn't do with him. Obviously that isn't the first contradiction but it is one I have seen today.

I do feel compassion for him, I read today how he fears losing Meghan as he lost his mother. As someone who lost a parent at the same age as Harry I understand that, I have always had a fear of people disappearing from my life, not just my husband but my children as well, it is a horrible way to feel. He is clearly unhappy and who wouldn't wish for someone struggling to feel better.

All that doesn't mean I think his lashing out at his family is a good thing, for him as much as them.

I'm sure it is easy for most people to feel for a woman in her 90s who has just lost her husband and whose family is going through this upheaval. I only hope it can all be resolved but people like Oprah Winfrey, James Corden, and the other person who interviewed him (an American blogger I think, I have no idea who he is) who are cashing in on this and encouraging behaviour which is potentially damaging to several different people aren't helping that to happen.

Eh Up trisher, don’t be coming on these threads with your sensible, thoughtful and dare I say Compassionate comments.

Why should concern be limited? Isn't it possible to be concerned about an old lady who has lost her husband, a young man trying to build a future after a complicated childhood and even a young woman who tried to change her life to fit in and failed? Why does it always have to be setting one member of the RF against the rest?
I can understand the media making cash out of conflict but ordinary posters on GN????

Alegrias - if you want to say the Queen is a doddery old woman who shouldn’t be in charge of the Monarchy anymore you can. Incidentally, she isn’t in charge, she’s the head, more figurehead if you will. The Crown is an establishment run from behind the scenes but that’s a different matter entirely which I’m not getting into. However, I wouldn’t keep coming on threads dedicated to others discussing the Queen in her doddery old age and continually telling others they shouldn’t be so unkind, cruel.....blah, blah.

There are so many of these threads, basically because the couple themselves are continually holding forth on various subjects and keep themselves in the spotlight, even though they crave (supposedly) privacy.

Harry now seems to be a mental health expert or thinks he is. They’ve said some things which contradict other things they’ve said and they trash our Royal Family. They are out there saying these things on camera in front of a worldwide audience, knowing the Queen, Prince Charles et al can’t defend themselves. If they in turn get trashed on here I’d think that’s the least of their worries.

Personally, I reserve my concern for an elderly lady who’s recently lost her much loved husband and is still going about her duties with dignity whilst having to listen to her grandson pontificating to the world about how hard done to he is.
