It’s late May- and it’s cold. I haven’t yet turned my heating off it’s still on the same settings as it was in January. Anyone going by the calendar?

BlueSky Sat 22-May-21 17:23:17

On/off as required. I wasted so much of my life being cold when I was younger, and my then husband believed in being cold for the sake of it. Now it’s creatures’ comfort all the way!

It would be mad to follow the calendar My heating is governed by the temp in the house if it falls below the thermostat setting the heating comes on

Yes!! It's cold .................

Susieq62 Sat 22-May-21 15:41:41

Usually on from November 1st to April 1st but not this year in West Yorkshire! Keep having to put it on as it is so chilly and damp. Very fed up!

My central heating thermostat has not been working for ages so I control things manually and just put on for an hour at a time if I feel cold. I haven't used it much this month helped by the fact that I have worked a bit the last couple of months so not sitting at home all the time. The more I move about the less I need the heating on. I've also started wearing more layers since I retired to save on the cost of heating. Hoping it will get warmer soon though, but not too hot or I have to have a fan switched on all the time!

Mine's ON with a Thermostat.

If it's cold - then the heating kicks in; if it's NOT cold - then it doesn't.

On when room feels cold, on today!

Candelle Sat 22-May-21 15:15:39

Very definitely on. We have each room thermostatically controlled and they have all needed to be turned up.

I believe the optimum temperature in a house is 21 in a sitting room and 18 in a bedroom and we have been nowhere near these, hence the heating on.

What a contrast to last year!

Ours hasn’t been off set at 20.5 comes on when it clicks in, there’s no way on earth im being cold,

I don't have central heating. I lit the multifuel burner last night for the first time in weeks.

Greciangirl Sat 22-May-21 14:56:19

I have been switching mine on late afternoons every single day whilst it’s still cold enough.

I don’t bother with a timer. Switched on or off according to the temperature.

I live in Brussels and it is pouring rain and cold, heating ON. My garden is like Day of the Triffids as it is too cold and wet to go out

Savvy Sat 22-May-21 14:42:30

We dropped down to 7 degrees last night, and all I could hear was rain lashing against the windows. The heating stays on until the weather realises that we are well into May.

I'm lucky that my house faces South but I still have the heating on, I can't stand being cold in the house.
Never have bedroom radiator on though, as can't stand a warm bedroom.

silverlining48 Sat 22-May-21 14:04:55

The other night we lit the burner, had the heating on, i was in two jumpers and warm trousers with a blanket over me.
The weather forecast doesn’t look hopeful either, mores the pity.

GrannyTracey Sat 22-May-21 14:00:52

Still on at my house her in Motherwell, it’s still freezing . Actually had some frost the other morning

silverlining48 Sat 22-May-21 13:58:16

Harris we live in the south and yes it’s still on. sad

Barmeyoldbat Sat 22-May-21 13:57:41

The heating is on in morning when I get up and then we turn it off and light the log burner later. I am always cold and don't care what month it is, if I am cold then I need heat.

Harris27 Sat 22-May-21 13:46:50

We live in the north so yes it’s still on!

*Buttonjugs*, that's what I do, but I do turn it down when I go to bed. A warm bed in a cool bedroom is my preference. Summer is no guarantee of warmth. I remember the old adage 'ne'er cast a cloot til May be oot' . For me that means I'm not going to change to my summer weight duvet just yet.

That saying actually means the May Blossom not the month of May. smile

Just put on some evenings don't need it in the day at all

I just leave mine on and control it with the thermostat. If it doesn’t get below 21c by day or 10c overnight it doesn’t come on. I don’t understand people thinking that because it’s summer they have to suffer, makes no logical sense!

Ealdemodor Sat 22-May-21 13:01:55

Yes, heating on here.
Cold as charity, as my Dad used to say!

Nannapat1 Sat 22-May-21 12:56:56

I've had the heating on all day every day as I'm recovering from a hip replacement and feel cold quickly. I've had the gas coal fire on in the living room as well. Mind you, several years ago 1 June was so cold I had to put it on then!
