Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

Look, none of you seem to understand that I feel for Johnson’s other children because I know how much pain it caused my children when their dad left them. So I’ll leave you to your little Boris and Carrie love fest. I don’t pretend to be anything other than what I am which is obviously a very nasty spiteful person which is why I don’t like people being two faced about getting married in a church when, imo they lead lives that are far from Christian.

My Father left my Mother when I was five years old, he went on to marry numerous times.

Myself and my siblings (his children with subsequent wives) are extremely close, every situation is different.

I am sorry that your children felt abandoned, but I can assure you that that is not always the case.

Maybe your situation has clouded your opinion of this marriage?

Yes of course they can. It's how human beings operate. We all draw from our own experiences.

So the Catholic Church regards Johnson’s other children (the acknowledged ones) as illegitimate?

illegitimate means absolutely nothing in the 21st century!

We had some of our children before we decided to get married, no problem nowadays, they were and are much loved and they could not give a flying fig regarding being born out of wedlock

Double hear hear! I was five months pregnant with my 2nd child shock when we got round to it, marriage that is grin

Illegitimacy is an awful out dated word, a slur that should never be applied to a child.

A person cannot compare personal experience with the experience of someone about whose previous marriages they know bugger all.

I wish them both well, they looked very happy.

Callistemon Sun 30-May-21 17:16:13

Wearing white only came into fashion mid to late 19th century I think, before that brides just wore their prettiest dress, but there aren’t many women now who choose a different colour for a church wedding.

I think Queen Victoria is said to have introduced the fashion for white wedding dresses, although I don't thinkshe was the first to wear white. She probably made it popular.

Is there an adult alive and well in the 21st century who gives a FF on the views of the Catholic Church in regard to illegitimacy?

Gwyneth Sun 30-May-21 17:07:29

I thought they both looked really happy in the photos and I wish them well.

Jabberwok Sun 30-May-21 17:07:01

Absolutely correct lemongrove, the RC church does not recognise an Anglican marriage, so for both Boris and Carrie this was their first legal marriage! I thought Carrie looked lovely, and Boris as proud as Punch! They seem very much in love and I wish them long life and much happiness, but then I am a Boris fan. My daughter is on her third marriage so I am in no position to comment or criticise that. Lovely photo of baby Wilfred. Wonder where that was?

westendgirl Sun 30-May-21 17:03:59

Thought the dress was lovely. The style reminded me of the 70's.Loved the flowers too.

Baggs Sun 30-May-21 17:03:49

Hear, hear again, grannygravy. Nobody is illegitimate nowadays. Silly, pompous, divisive idea that we're well rid of.

Perhaps they’ll crowd fund for the honeymoon. Are there a few donors on here perhaps?

Came in out of the sun. Looked at this thread for a bit of entertainment whilst having a cuppa. Not disappointed smile. Sad eh?

I have no problem with anyone saying ‘unpleasant’ things about Johnson, he’s a public figure, but by the same token it’s also ok to say what you think about Harry and Meghan, public figures also.
Posters can’t pour bile on Boris and Carrie and then complain of bile against H and M ( but they do, regularly and vociferously).

lemongrove Sun 30-May-21 16:51:30

Ilovecheese

Because she married a divorced man. The church should either allow it for everyone or for no one, not just because the man was a person of influence.

Haven’t you read the whole thread? It wasn’t because he is a person of influence, it’s simply Roman Catholic rules.
If you are both Catholic and marry in a Catholic church then divorce, you can’t then marry someone else in a Catholic church. If you are Catholic and marry somebody in a C of E church, or a chapel, or a registry office and then divorce them,
Then later you can marry in a Catholic Church because the RC church doesn't recognise marriages made elsewhere.

lemsip Sun 30-May-21 16:50:37

well at least this has killed the harry and meghan thread.

I think it was pretty two faced of her to wear white. I wonder if there’s any significance in the fact that she didn’t wear a veil? Was it from choice or was she not allowed to? I know how betrayed children feel when their father leaves their mother for another woman so all I can think of is how his (acknowledged) children must be feeling now.

Strange post! How very old fashioned, white is just seen now as a traditional colour to be married in, nobody expects the bride to be a virgin on their wedding day ( not that they did 50 years ago either.) Quite often a couple marry when they have lived together for many years and have children these days, but the bride still wants to wear white, usually.
Wearing white only came into fashion mid to late 19th century I think, before that brides just wore their prettiest dress, but there aren’t many women now who choose a different colour for a church wedding.
I thought Carrie looked rather nice in the lacy long dress and floral headband.

JenniferEccles Sun 30-May-21 16:40:13

What a very pretty feminine dress Carrie chose. Strictly speaking, a tiny bit fussy for my taste but so much classier than the off the shoulders, cleavage displaying styles that so many young women chose these days.

They look so happy and it would take a really mean spirited person, regardless of their political leanings, to not wish them well.

Sparklefizz Sun 30-May-21 16:37:05

I thought Carrie looked gorgeous - boho and summery and not OTT. Just right.

Crikey believe me he is not an alpha malegrin. Unless you mean that all the husbands of the people who have managed to remain faithful are somehow less of a man?

Boris definitely is an alpha male. But an alpha male is not necessarily a womaniser, so there's no disrespect to any alpha males who stay with one woman.

In what way is Boris an alpha male ? Genuine question.

I think this list describes Boris pretty well. Whether you think he's good looking or an 'effective' leader is a matter of personal opinion of course. But he is a leader not a follower.

They're Keenly Aware of Status.
They Tend to be Good Looking
They're Effective Leaders and Exist at the Top of Their Status Hierarchies.
They're Confident.
They're Extroverted.
They're Visionary.
They're Successful with Women.
They Don't Shy Away from Conflict.
