Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

So many bitter remarks on here, really truly nastiness. Disgusting.

I’m afraid that I find Johnson a thoroughly disgusting person, both morally and politically. And his new wife appears to be controlling him politically. There’s an article in today’s Times that says she was the one that’s chose Johnson’s new press Secretary: someone said that Carrie would have gone bananas if she hadn’t got her way. What sort of way is this to run a country?

Don’t believe everything you read in the media- there are too many expressions of outrage these days about reports from Twitter/the press/online media sites some of us do not read of (and have little wish to - Fox News, Connexion, Mail on Line etc etc )
When I read “someone says”: or “there’s an article etc” I can sense the hand getting ready to clutch those pearls..

Why is everybody so uptight?

I agree with Lucca, she says she doesn’t like what Boris does, but she’s not nasty in what she says. I agree with you Lucca about the dress, I was interested too.

Oh and by the way I think the remarks about veils and white dresses are completely bonkers in 2021.

I don’t hate Boris . I disapprove strongly of his actions.

I shall have a quick squint at her dress as I like fashion.

Look on Costarello's website Lucca if you like fashion. There are some exquisite gowns in embroidered lace.
Good taste.

Maybee justifying nastiness doesn’t make it right. Ever, whatever the reasons.

I've been maŕied three times .The first in our local Catholic church, ended in divorce 10 years later.Could still take communion. Five years later married in Registry office .Both strong Catholics ,couldn't take communion. My husband died two weeks before our 1st anniversary. According to the priest he could have received communion because he was dying ! Eighteen months later I married my third husband in Registry office and stopped attending church.I remember reading that Frank Sinatra had a marrige annulled so that he could marry in the Catholic church. One law for the rich but not for everyone.
I wish Boris and Carrie all the best and hope they have a long and happy life.

Crikey believe me he is not an alpha malegrin. Unless you mean that all the husbands of the people who have managed to remain faithful are somehow less of a man?

Boris definitely is an alpha male. But an alpha male is not necessarily a womaniser, so there's no disrespect to any alpha males who stay with one woman.

In what way is Boris an alpha male ? Genuine question.

Baggs Sun 30-May-21 16:13:03

I didn’t know he’d changed back. Thanks, daisymae.

I understand why some people have been disappointed in the Catholic Church, but the posts I referred to were personal. A query why Carrie was wearing a white dress because she’s clearly not a virgin for example. Others equally personal about Boris/Carrie. Querying the Catholic church’s stance is quite different.

Exactly ?

Ilovecheese Sun 30-May-21 16:12:16

Because she married a divorced man. The church should either allow it for everyone or for no one, not just because the man was a person of influence.

maddyone Sun 30-May-21 16:12:02

If we read the whole thread, there are some very spiteful posts.

Anniebach Sun 30-May-21 16:11:36

Carrie was a single practicing Roman Catholic , I don’t know where Johnson got married but he isn’t a Roman Catholic. I assume he had his previous marriages annulled.

Apparently Johnson was a Catholic, changed his mind at Eton and recently back again so therefore his previous marriages didn't actually happen in the eyes of the church. Which is highly convenient. Talk about Starmer flip flopping!

Baggs Sun 30-May-21 16:05:08

I think it is to do with hating Boris because if people didn't they would take the trouble to think a little and realise that it is Carrie who is the Catholic and she has not been married before. Why should she not have a Catholic wedding?

Marydoll Sun 30-May-21 16:00:52

JaneJudge, ? I totally understand where you are coming from. It is nothing to do with hating Boris, or some posters intentionally being spiteful. As you say, unless you have experienced it, it may be difficult to understand why some of us are annoyed and disappointed in the Catholic Church's ambiguous stance.

anyway, BBQ is lit, all enjoy yourselves x

Thank you, I've made a pudding and brought ?

Callistemon Sun 30-May-21 15:59:17

For example I believe, a married man can become a catholic priest if he just so happened to be a married vicar and convert to catholicism, obviously he can't dump wife and kids if they are in existence, so he can proceed in his priestly duties having his cake and eating it so to speak. How unfair given that married status is precluded to those men who may have a calling but are put off by taking a vow of celibacy. There is a dire shortage of priests anyway, if the church were to move with the times and allow married men and women to become ordained that could well be reversed. As we all know, somewhere back in the mists of time priests were married, as I imagine Jesus was, it was very unlikely for a Jewish man of that time not to be married. Another piece of skewed history to fit in with the patriarchy.

Terribull
Yes, absolutely.
It is hypocrisy.

JaneJudge I've been to a wedding in the C of E which was a second marriage for both divorced partners. The vicar was quite happy to perform the service

I wanted to get married in my village church fwiw and couldn't as I married someone older who'd had a brief marriage and the break was not of his doing. We were questioned at length by the Church and the vicar said no. So we got married in registry office and have been together for 20 odd years, no infidelity - a lot of bloody heartache and proper trauma but we have stuck by one another. I never went back to church after that, apart from for my siblings and grandparents funeral. Life is not a fair playing field. Maybe you have to experience it to understand. Maybe that is why people are angry/upset? show emotion? It isn't spite

JaneJudge Sun 30-May-21 15:33:57

I hope I haven't been nasty. I get fed up of people using power to twist things to suit themselves. Religion is one of those areas, as is white powerful men going into to politics. The two obviously combined yesterday.

Hopefully Carrie will be ok financially at least and her children looked after and I don't mean that spiteful.

Happy bank holiday smile We've just lit the BBQ smile

Started a specfic thread for this question.

TerriBull Sun 30-May-21 15:13:24

Yes I would add I wish Boris and Carrie well, I just think there are going to be a lot of divorced catholics thinking "what the heck!"
