Congratulations to Boris and Carrie who got married today in Westminster Catholic Cathedral. Just that really. I love weddings, doesn't matter who the couple are, I always hope it works out happily.

I know so many couples denied being married in C of E ceremonies too because of previous marriages then the same rule overlook for Meghan and Harry. Then she had the audacity to scorn her wedding when so many couples have been denied it. Makes my blood boil these religious pious clubs.

I just hope this time he has found the right person and they will be happy.
As for the ‘hyporcrites’remark above , there are plenty of them in the catholic church and many other religions.

Yes i say that as someone who escaped being branded as a Catholic as my 2 brothers had.
Everything can be confessed and forgiven in the Catholic Church.

A couple have just got married and are obviously very happy, is it absolutely necessary to bring politics into it, question the validity of the wedding and make the customary derogatory remarks that appear from certain quarters whenever the Prime Ministers name is mentioned. Surely just for one occasion it would be possible to wish them well, and swallow all that bile. I wish the same to any couples who got married yesterday regardless of their politics, religion ethnic origin, choice of venue. I hope all these unions are happy ones and that they all had a day to remember for the rest of their lives. My second wedding was in a Register Office, but since then I know of several couples who had their second weddings in church, it did not and does not bother me in the slightest.

Good for you. Some of us wanted to marry in the church and were denied that so I couldn't care less if he is the PM or a street sweeper but I do care that he has been allowed something that I was denied.

I am all for people in the public eye, keeping their private life private...

As our Queen says never complain, never explain...

A wedding isn't private and the insult to other Catholics who have been denied a church wedding isn't private either.

I think I will be contacting my parish priest to ask if I can now, after nearly 40 years have a church wedding.

It might all be gossip and speculation to some but it is heartbreaking to others.

this, totally.

Rules are :-
2 baptised people - 1 a Catholic
Previous marriages of divorcé weren't in Catholic churches so therefore not recognised by church
Says BBC

Try that reasoning if you're an ordinary person. I was married in a Registry Office but after my divorce was refused I was Communion on the grounds that I was a divorcee. The Church made it very clear that my Registry Office wedding counted. There is no way the Church would allowed me to marry in my parish church let alone Westminster Cathedral.

I don't care about them getting married. But I object to the Catholic hierarchy bending the rules to allow the marriage in church.

The other point about a Catholic PM. A Catholic can be PM but it raises questions when he/she advises the monarch on ecclesiastical matters as the C of E and RC don't agree on all points.

I agree with you and had the same experience.

Re Boris being a Catholic I thought he renounced Catholicism and became C of E either at Eton or Oxford, can't remember which.

She looks like something out of The Wicker Man. Still it’s good to be able to recycle old tablecloths and she is supposed to be a conservationist.
- hilarious. !
I wore a dress like that in the 70s - very ageing hippie

He must have made a full confession beforehand, wonder how long that took!

Are people who have committed adultery outside of marriage many times in many marriages allowed to get married in Catholic Cathedrals shock

My first thoughts too!
Hypocrites.

I'm now paranoid that I'm Keyser Soze <hangs head in shame>

I saw the news this morning about the "secret ceremony "
yesterday of Boris and Carrie. A wedding is a wedding I suppose so congratulations to both of them.

Am somewhat confused about the wedding being in the Catholic Cathedral as it stated that this is his 3rd marriage.
I didn't know he was a Catholic.
I was under the impression that he could not be married in
the Catholic church particularly for a 3rd marriage.
I expect the church would have had to write to the Bishop for permission as generally no one marrying in the Catholic
church in those circumstances would be allowed to do so.

Hope this time it is 3rd time lucky !!!!! how many marriages does he want to have?

I dont like the dress, I like her head dress though, is that the word, I was never very good at the girly stuff. I didnt like Diana's dress either if that's any help. Actually I think wedding dresses can be a bit naff generally.

Blossoming Sun 30-May-21 13:00:51

My condolences to the bride.

Alegrias1 Sun 30-May-21 12:58:00

A couple of people get married. He is responsible for running the country, and there is some debate over how they could have got married in the Church, given his matrimonial history.

And people still think "Her dress looks like old tablecloths and she looks like something out of the Wicker Man" is a suitable criticism.

If you don't like the dress, just say so. Do we have to descend to that level?

FannyCornforth Sun 30-May-21 12:55:02

Lexisgranny there are far more posters saying positive things about Johnson and Carrie's union than there are 'derogatory comments from certain quarters'.
As far as I can see there are only me and Whitewave who are being critical. And even I have said that she looks lovely.

Boris's mother is Catholic and he was baptised as Catholic.
He became Anglican when at Eton.
Carrie was baptised as Catholic.
A Catholic cannot be Prime Minister.
You may recall that Blair became RC after he left office.

So, as usual, Johnson does exactly what he wants and his admirers say it's all fine.
I guess it's fun being in the gang of a leader who can get away with anything he wants.

Galaxy Sun 30-May-21 12:48:55

Surely it would be possible to understand that people may have different views on the church issue than you do.

I think it is absolutely ghastly. And doesn’t get any better in the second photo.

theworriedwell I hope they celebrated with bottles of bubbly and that Wilfred spent the night with his Grandparents.

According to Tatler, Carrie's mum lives at No 10

Chestnut Sun 30-May-21 12:43:00

That was a lovely photo and I agree it was taken after the formalities had ended. I would not presume to criticise any bride's choice of attire, it's her day and she should wear whatever makes her happy. I genuinely think she looks lovely and a huge white gown and veil would no doubt get criticism too.

And still religion divides us.

Sadly very true, religion is often used as an excuse to wage war and divide the human race.

Just read on Facebook that, now that they’re married she can no longer testify against him. Interesting.....hmm

Scraping the bottom of the barrel here. According to most Boris Bashers she already rules the roost.

She’s a grown up and will be well aware of Boris’s past - it’s been part of a media frenzy for decades. Boris’s ex wives cheated on their best friends with him, but that is overlooked.

An ex colleague of mine had been married three times and so had her OH. They are still blissfully happy together after 20+ years together. Some people have to kiss a lot of frogs!

Galaxy Sun 30-May-21 12:38:36

So sorry that happened vampirequeen. I find it all beyond comprehension.
